Abstract: Although previous research suggests that bringing attention to minority cultural identities in the workplace can lead to professional penalties, this research provides promising evidence that the opposite can occur. I examine how cultural minority employees engaging in rich and meaningful conversations about their racial, ethnic, and national backgrounds (referred to as rich cultural-identity expression) influences majority-group coworkers’ inclusive behaviors, such as majority-group employees’ willingness to socially integrate with and professionally support minority coworkers. Three experiments found evidence of majority-group employees behaving more—not less—inclusively toward minority coworkers who engaged in rich cultural-identity expression, as opposed to small talk that did not bring attention to a minority cultural background. Even when minority employees richly expressed negatively valenced cultural information that could provoke anxiety (such as issues with discrimination), this form of sharing had positive effects on most measures of inclusive behavior in Studies 2 and 3 (although one exception was found in Study 3). No benefits were observed when minority employees engaged in surface-level cultural-identity expression (Studies 2 and 3) and intimate, noncultural self-disclosure (Study 2). The power of rich cultural-identity expression is its ability to increase majority-group individuals’ status perceptions of, feelings of closeness to, and sense of learning potential from minority coworkers. This research provides promising evidence that minority employees may be able to express valued aspects of their cultural identities while gaining—as opposed to jeopardizing—inclusion. Abstract: Firms are increasingly adopting digital transformation as a strategic priority. However, the path to successful transformation remains uncertain for many organizations. This paper examines the establishment and evolution of competency centers in two case study organizations, historically used in enterprise systems, in addressing the complexity and challenges of digital transformation. The interactions within these competency centers are analyzed through assemblage theory to understand the emergent relations between heterogeneous parts (technology, people, and orga­ nization) and the dynamic processes of new configurations. The insights from this research show the critical role of the competency center in any enterprise system’s success and how it could continue playing a central role in future digital transformation initiatives. By providing a new lens to examine these issues, the assemblage theory provided a new theoretical perspective to the IS field and a new alternative empirical setting to the organizational literature. Abstract: Literature suggests various perspectives of the role of blockchain technology (BCT) in organizations, such as, techno-centric, humancentric, and technology institutionalization. This paper aims to look the adoption of blockchain, through the lens of institutionalization perspective based on the Institutional Theory. The literature argues that institutional theory pressures are only sufficient for innovation if it is seen as a solution where imitation can be followed. However, if there is no consensus on innovation adoption, it becomes difficult to understand the organizational economic and technical needs. Therefore, it is important to understand institutionalization of novel technologies like blockchain, which have yet to have enough examples to follow. The study proposes a framework based on data gathered via semi-structured interviews of blockchain experts using the Delphi method. The framework extends the institutional theory by introducing a technological pressure along with its three conventional pressures. Collapse

Abstract: Strategic Agility allows organizations to rapidly respond to market movements and integrate these opportunities into their organization. Open Strategy, utilizing frameworks such as Objectives and Key Results, increases Strategic Agility by enhancing transparency and inclusiveness in strategy development and execution. However, leaders lack effective digital tools to rapidly align organizations at scale and track progress, especially when creating Strategic Agility. To address this, Enterprise Strategy SaaS Platforms (Strategy SaaS), a new breed of strategy software, is being developed to facilitate Digital-Enabled Strategic Agility (DESA). This research explores the enablers of Strategy SaaS adoption and its impact on DESA through two manufacturing cases using Integrated Affordance Theory. Results indicate Strategy SaaS enables organizations to sense, decide, coordinate, and act on their Open Strategy initiatives more effectively. However, it also requires additional enablers due to the business-led nature of implementation. The research contributes a tangible action plan for leaders to increase DESA. Collapse

In light of surging popularity and low theoretical insights, we study NFTs from a lifecycle-driven perspective. We develop a taxonomy that adheres to a habitual method and draws on a five-step process of analyzing literature and real-world projects. Our taxonomy contributes to descriptive knowledge by structuring NFTs with 20 dimensions and 77 characteristics along the perspectives of origination, distribution, transfer, trade, and redeem. We enable researchers and practitioners to grasp the NFT phenomenon in a structured manner and demonstrate the applicability of our taxonomy through expert interviews and case studies. Collapse

Abstract: The popular maxim holds that power corrupts, and research to date supports the view that power increases self-interested unethical behavior. However, we predict the opposite effect when unethical behavior, specifically lying, helps an individual self-promote: lower rather than higher power increases self-promotional lying. Drawing from compensatory consumption theory, we propose that this effect occurs because lower power people feel less esteemed in their organizations than do higher power people. To compensate for this need to view themselves as esteemed members of their organizations, lower power individuals are more likely to inflate their accomplishments. Evidence from four studies supports our predictions: compared with those with higher power, executives with lower power in their organizations were more likely to lie about their work achievements (Study 1, n = 230); graduate students with lower power in their Ph.D. studies were more likely to lie about their publication records (Study 2, n = 164); and employees with lower power were more likely to lie about having signed a business contract (Studies 3 and 4). Mediation analyses suggest that lower power increased lying because lower power individuals feel lower esteem in their organizations (Study 3, n = 562). Further supporting this mechanism, a self-affirmation intervention reduced the effect of lower power on self-promotional lying (Study 4, n = 536). These converging findings show that, when lies are self-promotional, lower power can be more corruptive than higher power. Collapse

Abstract: In this paper we aim to improve our understanding of the dynamics of IS architecture complexity (i.e, the change in this complexity over time) during the execution of a consolidation IS integration strategy (IIS). Based on two case studies, we find that unexpected levels of complexity emerge during IIS execution because of an underestimation of requisite complexity and an overestimation of the potential to reduce complexity. Our analysis shows that increased complexity is due to the fact that the intended consolidation IIS is only partially executed, and to increasingly emergent IIS execution. Additionally, we find that while complexity was reduced at the portfolio level, at more detailed levels of observation complexity was actually increased. Our paper contributes to knowledge in the field by providing a deeper insight into IS architecture complexity dynamics during the execution of a consolidation IIS, and the concept of IS architecture complexity in general. Abstract: There has been substantial hype about the use of blockchain for supply chain and trade finance, proclaiming that it would "change the world." Although during 2016-2018 blockchain was riding high on the hype curve, in 2019 it fell into the trough of disillusionment. Along the way, some consultants have recently stopped promoting blockchain and attention appears have shifted away from enterprise blockchain systems. As a result, it probably is not surprising that recently there have been several instances where those enterprise blockchain efforts went insolvent or were shutdown. This paper investigates those blockchain systems and identifies some of the potential factors affecting the success of those systems. Abstract: In this paper, we focus on the early-stage diffusion of codependent IT innovations, which are a type of innovation in which the overall innovation consists of two complementary parts that are adopted by two different adopter communities but where both parts need to be jointly adopted by the two coadopter communities for successful diffusion of the overall innovation. Using innovation diffusion, organizing vision (OV), and institutional entrepreneurship theories as the key theoretical lenses, and an in-depth case study reconstructed using 20 years of discourse surrounding Walmart’s campaign in the early stage of diffusion of the RFID-in-retailing technology, we develop a fourphase process model for the early-stage diffusion of codependent IT innovations. We make three specific contributions to the IS discipline, specifically to the literature on IS innovation adoption and diffusion. First, we add the notion of coadopter relative advantage and posit that the organization in the coadopter community with a higher coadopter relative advantage that perceives the highest degree of coadopter relative advantage will emerge as an institutional entrepreneur (IE) and will influence the early-stage diffusion of the codependent IT innovation. Second, we add the notion of an internal-external influencer and posit that the IE may be an actor who is internal to the overall adoption phenomenon, which involves two different coadopter communities, but external to the coadopter community with a lower coadopter relative advantage that adopts the innovation component. Third, we divide the early-stage diffusion process into four phases—emergence, structuralization, evolution, and chasm—and identify the institutional entrepreneurship strategies used and the OV functions enacted by the IE during each phase. We propose that the IE for a codependent innovation will: (1) use the rationale development strategy and enact the interpretation OV function during the emergence phase, (2) use the resource mobilization strategy and enact the mobilization OV function during the structuralization phase, (3) use the relationship development strategy and enact the legitimation OV function during the evolution phase, and (4) use all the three institutional entrepreneurship strategies and enact all the three OV functions during the chasm phase.
