Abstract: We conducted a field experiment to compare the effects of information systems (IS) supporting reflective disclosure and information democratization on the sustainability footprint of a routine organizational work practice, paper printing. We find that both sensemaking processes lead to employees reducing their printing; however, the processes are interchangeable and do not mutually reinforce each other’s effects. This finding contrasts a latent assumption of prior research about a co-dependence between reflective disclosure and infor­ mation democratization, and suggests organizations have a choice in how they can design and use IS to help employees make sense of different possibilities for more eco-efficient work. Abstract: Online forums sponsored by Electronic Networks of Practice are commonly used to exchange information related to problem solving, but the quality of solutions posted on forums can vary widely. To assist knowledge seekers, most forums offer contextual cues that signal solution quality, such as endorsements by the question poster, experts, or other community members. However, the influence of these cues on information-filtering decisions, particularly when presented simultaneously, remains poorly understood. This study draws on signaling theory to develop hypotheses about how four cue dimensions-source, valence, format, and volume-shape information filtering on an online forum. Results from three choice-based conjoint studies show that some sources are more influential than others and that positive cues weigh more heavily on filtering decisions than negative cues. Results also show that cues tend to be more influential when they employ a more granular format and reflect the input of a larger number of individuals. Collapse

Abstract: Within the domain of Information Systems, assumptions around sociotechnical change cohesively build on establishing a stable and balanced relationship between the social and technical structures. When these structures become too rigid, revolutionary moments that punctuate the status quo are required for the structures to accommodate to a new situation. Approaching sociotechnical change with “punctuation of equilibrium” is becoming increasingly ineffective. In line with rising instability and rapid digital development, we argue that new sociotechnical change approaches are needed. In this paper we investigate how individual knowledge workers respond to the increasingly complex challenges they face when orchestrating social and technical structures to support efficient and creative knowledge work. We suggest a new perspective that covers an unstable equilibrium emerging from the interplay between individuals and their usage of “the collection of rigid and flexible workplace technologies”. Our study is based on data from interviews made with 40 knowledge professionals over a period of three years, inquiring into individual experiences with sociotechnical change. Our study reveals contradictory patterns of both technological-individualisation and -socialisation. A universal generative mechanism emerges when these patterns complement each other and generates continuous change that seems to diminish inertia from rigid structures while also intensifying agile responses. Abstract: Understanding what information is important for consumers when making a purchase-related decision has been a key question for researchers and practitioners ever since the advent of empirical research in commerce. Nevertheless, our knowledge of what information is important has been formed primarily through post-purchase conscious capturing approaches, such as surveys and questionnaires. To overcome these limitations, we ground this research on an exploratory study that captures eye-tracking data during a decision-making task of product selection. Grounded on the dynamic attention theory, we utilize different information types and formats present on a popular social commerce platform, to identify elements which are important when deciding about online product purchase decision. Specifically, we employ a series of prediction algorithms and use an ensemble learning setup to predict the aspects that contribute to product selection by consumers. Our analysis highlights the most important informational cues to accurately predict product selection among alternatives. In addition, the results showcase how such elements shift in importance during the temporal sequence of comparing different product alternatives. Our results provide insight into how we can understand the journey of decision-making for social commerce customers when navigating through information to select a product. In addition, it opens the discussion about the shifts that eye-tracking in combination with machine learning can create for researchers and marketers. Collapse

Abstract: Online customer feedback management plays an increasingly important role for businesses. Yet providing customers with good responses to their reviews can be challenging, especially as the number of reviews grows. This paper explores the potential of using generative AI to formulate responses to customer reviews. Using advanced NLP techniques, we generated responses to reviews in different authoring configurations. To compare the communicative effectiveness of AI-generated and human-written responses, we conducted an online experiment with 502 participants. The results show that a Large Language Model performed remarkably well in this context. By providing concrete evidence of the quality of AI-generated responses, we contribute to the growing body of knowledge in this area. Our findings may have implications for businesses seeking to improve their customer feedback management strategies, and for researchers interested in the intersection of AI and customer feedback. This opens opportunities for practical applications of NLP and for further IS research. Collapse

Abstract: Nowadays, the Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile devices are ubiquitous. Both, the IoT and mobile devices contain sensors and thus can provide data about the device’s environment. The sensor data can be used to infer the current context. However, for this purpose, the sensor data have to be aggregated. In this aggregation process, several different sensors and data provided by other sources, such as databases, can be used. In order to facilitate this, the paper presents a modeling language for context modeling based on sensors. Moreover, a detailed usability evaluation of the presented context modeling language is shown. This evaluation is based on three hypotheses regarding learnability, time expenditure and effectiveness. An experiment involving an experimental group and a control group was conducted to test these three hypotheses, and the results were interpreted. Collapse

Abstract: Tourists deal with two intrinsic, uncertainty-driven attributes of travel, tourist worries and novelty seeking, that simultaneously affect their transaction and travel experience satisfaction. Rapid technological advances coupled with uncertainties caused by momentous events such as COVID-19 highlight the increasing significance of smart technologies in the tourism industry. This study explores the relationships between novelty and worries and travel satisfaction, as well as examines how tourists enhance their quality of trips with the use of smart tourism technologies. We find the tourists’ novelty seeking would enhance the trip experience, leading to overall travel satisfaction. In contrast, tourist worries, particularly in trip planning, would negatively affect tourists’ transaction satisfaction, which in turn impacts the overall travel experience satisfaction. As a moderator in its ambidextrous role, smart tourism technologies help tourists to develop a sense of novelty when planning and visiting a destination and mitigate the worries emanated from the uncertainty of transaction made during the pre-trip planning. Insights and implications of such findings are discussed for both theory and practice. Collapse

Abstract: This research investigates the impact of value alignment on physician resistance to electronic health record systems (EHRS) through the reduction of perceived threat to professional autonomy and perceived changes in work processes. Analyses of data collected from 104 US physicians using SmartPLS reveal that value alignment (i) directly impacts resistance to EHRS, (ii) influences resistance to EHRS use by reducing the perceived threat to professional autonomy, and (iii) influences perceived changes in work processes.
