Abstract: In recent years there has been a significant increase in the number of companies working on improving or innovating transport services, or even developing new forms of transportation. Services like Uber and Lyft have caused a breakthrough in the industry over the past decade. Nevertheless, other regional players are seeking to compete with these companies by offering more tailored services. Such is our partner positioned in the solidarity transport market, the company COVIVO. It is a shared mobility company, providing citizens with many mobility solutions. There is one particular population stratum that still rarely uses these services: older people. The questions that naturally come to mind are: what prevents today’s older generation from using these mobility services? In this paper, we present some possible ways and results concerning this issue throughout a participative method ADInnov and complete it with a multi-agent system to match drivers and passengers’ profiles. Abstract: Even though many types of Design Science Research (DSR) frameworks and methods exist, little effort has been made to examine and little attention has been paid to investigate objectives identification in DSR. We believe that it is worthwhile to draw attention to the role that DSR objectives play in building and evaluating designed artifacts. Thus, this study developed a framework to answer two research questions: (1) What kinds of objective dimensions can be identified and used for different information technology (IT) artifacts? (2) How can these objectives be linked to the process of building and evaluating IT artifacts? The framework was demonstrated and evaluated by a case study and expert interviews. Abstract: This paper contributes by offering a refined understanding of what empowerment means in today’s digital technology design context. Research on children and digital technology design often calls for children’s empowerment, while little attention has been paid to discussing what empowerment of children really means. Information Systems research offers useful points of departure for scrutinizing the concept. We maintain that also Information Systems researchers and practitioners should see empowering of children in digital technology design as one of their tasks, while we also show that this empowerment can be achieved in a variety of ways. Abstract: Many researchers and practitioners recognize that there is a link between the failures of information system (IS) provision and flawed Information Requirements Definition (IRD). Misinformation arises from defective communication between clients and analysts and lead to situations where the actual requirements of clients are not identified and properly represented in the subsequent information system. Recent research suggests that this could be the result of inquiry methods that do not subscribe to known learning theories and instead focus on contextual factors affecting client learning. In this paper, we explore the underpinning ideas of client-driven requirements definition and attempt to find a way of “navigating” the gap between what the client wants and what the technical expert can provide. The approach described stimulates client learning, which we suggest is a fundamental component of a successful outcome. We propose a method of requirements analysis that has shown its value in helping to overcome the communication gap between client and developer while creating a collaborative learning environment. The lessons learnt from this research may provide an interface for other technology driven development methods. Collapse

Abstract: Twenty years after the promise of Information Systems enabling Organizational Transformation (IS-enabled OT), what have we learned? This paper reviews the literature in order to better understand this phenomenon. As specialists in IS, strategy and organizational studies, we analyze the discourse on OT found in the strategy, organizational theory and IS literature, and identify four structuring themes: organizational inertia, process, agency and performance. We apply the coding derived from these themes to a set of 62 empirical papers and discuss the results. Ten research avenues are then identified to show that IS-enabled OT is still a new frontier for strategic information systems research. Collapse

Abstract: Enid Mumford championed an ethical, socio-technical, and participatory approach to the design of ICT systems. In this paper, we focus on the development of e-government as an example of such a system. First, we present an extension of Mumford's ideas about the benefits and process of participation, based on an analysis of recent citizen engagement initiatives. We then examine the extent to which e-government reflects the principles she espoused. The evidence collated indicates that e-government development is currently characterised by a technocentric approach with minimal engagement of citizens. We discuss the implications arising from this analysis, and explore the benefits that governments could achieve from adoption of a sociotechnical, participatory approach to e-government development. The crucial enabling role of capacity building is highlighted. Providing citizens with the necessary skills and capabilities to engage effectively offers the key to the successful development of systems such as e-government which impact our lives in the 21st century Information Society. Abstract: The implementation of the Computer-Aided Despatch system at the London Ambulance Service has been one of the most notorious cases of failure within the information systems (IS) literature. What is less well known is that there followed, some time later, a much more successful implementation, described as a turnaround. This paper, based on a case study approach, describes the context and detail of that implementation. A framework from the literature, used in an analysis of the initial failure, is used to analyse and compare the similarities and differences in the development of the two systems. The framework provides four interacting elements and relationships for analysis. These elements are Supporters, Project Organisation, Information System, and the Environment in which they operate. The turnaround system was found to address directly almost all the issues identified as problematic in the failure. These included the approach taken by management to understand the needs of users, including issues unrelated to the system itself, their involvement in the development process, an improvement in the availability of resources (brought about in some part because of the previous failure), the ability to follow a relaxed timeline driven by users' acceptance levels, the preparation of infrastructure projects to develop confidence, participation and prototyping, thorough testing, phased and simple implementation, and trust building. Certain environmental factors could not be so directly addressed but nevertheless were overcome by attention to detail and internal needs. Conclusions indicate that the factors addressed are not new and are to be found in the success literature. What is unusual is that they were implemented in this case in such unlikely circumstances. Abstract: We use information theory to justify use of a method to help managers better understand what new IT applications and features will be most valued by users and why and then apply this method in a case study involving the development of financial service applications for mobile devices. We review five methods for data gathering, analysis, modeling, and decision-making and compare them with information processing methods for IS planning. Then we develop an IS planning method, an extended version of ‘critical success chains’ (CSC), that supports five of six of the identified information processing needs. We use this method in a project to develop ideas for mobile financial services applications at Digia, a Finland-based R&D firm. We select a group of experts and potential early adopting users. In structured individual interviews, we ask why participants prefer particular specific features the participant would expect to be part of an application. We record this data as linked chains connecting features with consequential performance and with the perceived value of such performance. The data is analyzed across participants to create network models of features, performance, and values. We conduct an ideation workshop with Digia engineers and executives to generate ideas for new systems based on the CSC models. Workshop participants created back-of-the-envelope level ideas for three new applications and business models to show graphically the flow of information, value, and revenue among parties involved in producing and using the applications. We conclude by comparing the extended CSC and other IS planning methods in terms of information theory and the information processing needs for IS planning. Collapse

Abstract: In this paper, we describe how an agent's trust in transactions is a combination of an agent's trust in the other party and the trust in the control mechanisms for the successful performance of the transaction. This distinction is, in particular, relevant for international business-to-business electronic commerce, where trading partners often do not know each other before the trading takes place. We argue also that the agent's understanding of a control mechanism is essential for the agent's trust in that control mechanism. We give a formal analysis of the understanding that is required for control mechanisms to work and for determining the subjective level of trust in control mechanisms in electronic commerce.
