Abstract: Recent research has mostly examined the role of health communication technology (HCT) in patient empowerment and in producing patient-focused outcomes. This study examines HCT in a larger context where it is used as a tool to improve public health. The objective is to examine how HCT is used to monitor Covid-19's spread, and how social factors affect individual assessment of HCT and individual compliance disposition of Covid-19 guidelines. Analyzing data collected from 360 HCT users suggests that the information and system quality of HCT indeed impact users' assessment of its effectiveness and their compliance disposition. However, such effects are strongly mediated by social factors: Peer influence and government trust can sway an individual's cognitive judgments of Covid-19 regardless of HCT's impacts. The findings highlight the importance of social factors in pandemic management and the need to socialize health informatics to make them more effective. Collapse

Abstract: In contemporary software development, software process tailoring (SPT) refers to the continual planning and adjustment of the development process, which evolves to better accommodate dynamics and meet customer needs. SPT is a critical teamwork involving the differences in time-related perceptions among team members when tailoring to adjust and refine the development. This is particularly true in agile-based projects that promote iterative development over shorter cycle times for early release; thus, temporality is critical to efficiently and effectively determine a process solution for the next iteration of time-bound development. In this regard, this study theorizes a temporal model to explore how teams' temporal leadership, temporal reflexivity and shared temporal cognitions (STC) collectively determine SPT performance in agile environments. Based on an empirical examination, we suggest facilitating the role of temporal leadership in agile development, as the results demonstrate that it not only directly increases SPT performance but also stimulates both temporal reflexivity and STC in their collateral influences on effectual development planning. Notably, the results also show that team reflexivity does not exert the same favorable effect in SPT as in the distributed team environment. Theoretical implications are considered, and practical applications of the findings are provided. Collapse

Abstract: The debate on the pros and cons of employee attachment to social networking sites (SNS) has led to social media policy paralysis in many organizations, and often a prohibition on employee use of SNS. This paper examines corporate users’ attachment to SNS. An analysis of 316 survey responses showed that corporate users’ socialization in large public SNS was steeped in perceived work-related benefits, which in turn nourished their SNS attachment. Social use outperformed informational use in generating perceived work-related benefits from SNS. Weak ties in large heterogeneous networks resulted in strategic and operational benefits, whereas the effects of strong bonding in homogenous networks were limited to operational benefits. The paper contributes to research on SNS use by corporate users and the debate on the effect of SNS use for work. The findings will benefit SNS strategists of organizations and policymakers to exploit the benefit potential of public SNS. Collapse

Abstract: CBDC has become a discussion topic with worldwide economic and societal relevance. Payment system efficiency is a top driver for digital currency adoption. We examine literature gaps for payment ecosystem impact on CBDC adoption and design, and conduct test for 65 World Bank countries. We measure payment alternatives and preferences impacts and estimate least squares and limited dependent variables regressions. CBDC adoption is driven by payment ecosystem, alternative characteristics, e-money usage, perceived safety, and infrastructure. This signals that user familiarity with digital payment methods, trust in authorities, and structural capabilities support CBDC adoption. Adoption is inversely related to alternatives that dampen the need for CBDC. Transaction volume and trust in authorities are linked to choosing a central database, not a digital ledger technology (DLT) infrastructure. Deviations occur from ambiguous effects of cash and DLT usage on CBDC adoption and industry concentration, architecture, and linkages. Collapse

Abstract: The current research sheds new light on how and why status hierarchies impact interpersonal helping by examining people’s reactions to recently experienced status change. Specifically, we incorporate findings from research on the self-serving attributional bias to theorize about how the direction of status change (i.e., a gain or a loss) can shape the extent to which people accept or deflect personal responsibility for their change in status, which we argue will then impact other-concern and, thus, their willingness to help. Further, we identify status change legitimacy as a key contingency that will strengthen or weaken the psychological and behavioral effects of status change. Among firefighter teams (Study 1), participants in the laboratory (Studies 2 and 3), and student teams (Study 4), we show that (1) status change impacts interpersonal helping through its impact on changes in other-concern and (2) status change legitimacy moderates the effect of status change on both other-concern and interpersonal helping. Additionally, we document an asymmetry with regards to the effects of status change on both other-concern and helping behavior (i.e., with the negative impact of a status loss being stronger than the positive impact of a status gain). Theoretical and practical implications are discussed. Collapse

Abstract: The effectiveness of behavior change support systems (BCSS) in promoting health and well-being is unflinching. However, its long-term effectiveness is hindered by non-compliance. Research in BCSS that focuses on compliance is scarce, particularly the determinants of compliance intention are not well established. To address this gap, this study investigated the determinants of compliance intention in BCSS by extending the persuasive system design model to include competence, effectiveness, enjoyment, and persuasiveness. By surveying a sample of prospective BCSS users (N=234), partial least squares structural equation modeling was used to evaluate the proposed model. The findings suggest that the prospective users' perceptions of primary task support and dialogue support, as well as social support and credibility support significantly influenced their perceptions of self-competence and system effectiveness respectively. These perceptions influenced enjoyment, then persuasiveness, and finally compliance intention. Future studies will validate these findings on the compliance behavior of BCSS. Collapse

Abstract: Smartwatches are wearable devices intended to be smartphone companions that capture health data and ease access to notifications. They have also become personalisable standing as a fashion statement. This combination resulted in staggering adoption rates recently leading to question whether smartwatch users’ choice and use satisfaction emerge from utility features or from its fashion characteristics. This paper proposes and validates a fit theory to investigate the antecedents of adopters’ satisfaction. Besides evaluating fit with identity, the model assesses both perceived and actual task-technology fit of smartwatches. A questionnaire-based quantitative approach is used to collect data from about 300 smartwatch users in Qatar. To test the proposed model, data is analysed using structural equation modeling (SEM) and artificial neural networks (ANN). Furthermore, ANN sensitivity analysis ranks the importance of the fit factors affecting users’ choice during pre- and post-adoption stages. Both task-technology and technology-identity fit factors are quasi-equally important in explaining 62% of satisfaction variance. ANN analysis revealed that post-adoption satisfaction is primarily attributed to smartwatches’ ability to fit with users’ identity and secondarily to its perceived fit with tasks. Nevertheless, pre-adoption choice of smartwatches is mainly guided by their functionality. This paper is the first to propose and validate an integrated task-technology-identity fit model to explain smartwatch utilization and users’ satisfaction. The originality also lies in assessing actual task-technology fit and as perceived by users. Employing two modes of analysis revealed extra insights too. Collapse

Abstract: The popularity of social media and particularly Instagram grows steadily. People use the different channels to share pictures and videos and to communicate with friends. The potential of social media platforms is also being used for marketing purposes and for selling products. While for Facebook and other online social media platforms the purchase decision factors are investigated several times, Instagram stores remain mainly unattended so far. The present research work closes this gap and sheds light into decisive factors for purchasing products offered in Instagram stores. A theoretical research model, which contains selected constructs that are assumed to have a significant influence on Instagram user´s purchase intention, is developed. The hypotheses are evaluated by applying structural equation modelling on survey data containing 127 relevant participants. The results of the study reveal that 'trust', 'personal recommendation', and 'usability' significantly influences user's buying intention in Instagram stores. Collapse

Abstract: Frequent and habitual engagement with social media can reinforce certain activities such as sharing, clicking hyperlinks, and liking, which may be performed with insufficient cognition. In this study, we aimed to examine the associations between personality traits, habits, and information processing to identify social media users who are susceptible to phishing attacks. Our experimental data consisted of 215 social media users. The results revealed two important findings. First, users who scored high on the personality traits of extraversion, agree­ ableness, and neuroticism were more likely to engage in habitual behaviors that increase their susceptibility to phishing attacks, whereas those who scored high on conscientiousness were less likely. Second, users who habitually react to social media posts were more likely to apply heuristic processing, making them more sus­ ceptible to phishing attacks than those who applied systematic processing. Abstract: The recent pandemic and resultant increase in clinical caseload have brought dialogue-based agents (DBAs) to the forefront of attention in the healthcare industry. The ability of these agents to accomplish a variety of sequential and related tasks within a single application software has made them more effortful and complex. While effort requirements and complexity of information systems are generally considered negative attributes, the potential effect of user effort investment on user perceptions and decisions is less investigated. Within the framework of goal systems theory, this study explores how perceived effort could be appropriated to enhance users’ positive perceptions and willingness to accept healthcare DBAs outputs. We find evidence for the positive role both in the perceived effort before and after the actual use of healthcare DBAs as well as in user goal magnitude and means-goal configuration on perceptions of usefulness and probability of considering outputs.
