Abstract: The effectiveness of behavior change support systems (BCSS) in promoting health and well-being is unflinching. However, its long-term effectiveness is hindered by non-compliance. Research in BCSS that focuses on compliance is scarce, particularly the determinants of compliance intention are not well established. To address this gap, this study investigated the determinants of compliance intention in BCSS by extending the persuasive system design model to include competence, effectiveness, enjoyment, and persuasiveness. By surveying a sample of prospective BCSS users (N=234), partial least squares structural equation modeling was used to evaluate the proposed model. The findings suggest that the prospective users' perceptions of primary task support and dialogue support, as well as social support and credibility support significantly influenced their perceptions of self-competence and system effectiveness respectively. These perceptions influenced enjoyment, then persuasiveness, and finally compliance intention. Future studies will validate these findings on the compliance behavior of BCSS. Collapse

Abstract: While Interactive systems such as Chatbots, are well known in personal environments with technologies like “Apple’s Siri” or the “Google’s Assistant”, the acceptance of said technologies in the enterprise context has hardly been examined. Literature shows that these technologies hold great potential for enterprises as they can increase productivity and are cost-efficient by automating processes. Still, to not alienate employees when introducing these systems called Enterprise Bots in this paper, it is crucial to understand how employees accept and adopt these new systems. This paper derives a research model based on the decomposed Theory of Planned Behaviour, which is tested in a survey with 198 participants. Results from a structural equation model show that intrinsic motivation of the employees has a strong positive influence on the intention to use Enterprise Bots whereas external influences showed smaller effects. The results indicate that it is important that employees are convinced of the usefulness of a tool for themselves. The paper provides theoretical insights and helps decision makers to introduce such systems. Collapse

Abstract: Global retail brands find it vital to engage Generation Y (Gen Y) customers through firm-hosted online brand communities (OBCs) for generating actionable insights; this study advances customer engagement (CE) frame­ works in this setting. First, we draw on the stimulus–organism–response (S–O–R) theory to introduce OBC website quality (termed OBC-SiteQUAL), alongside brand involvement as a customer resource input, to shape an expanded quadripartite CE conceptualisation. Second, using multi-country data, we test the validity of the OBCSiteQUAL and CE measurement models, and the theoretical framework. Results indicate that the newly conceived OBC-SiteQUAL construct, underpinned by various web-based cues related to affective elements, brand interaction and customer-to-customer interaction, positively influences CE, whereas brand involvement partially influences CE. Third, we examine how these variables translate to behavioural loyalty outcomes. Empirically, a consistent pattern across the country samples indicates that OBC-SiteQUAL can affect behavioural loyalty by enhancing CE. Thus, we reliably confirm the mediating effect of CE (O) between OBC-SiteQUAL (S) and behavioural loyalty (R). Fourth, we found that the impact of OBC-SiteQUAL and brand involvement on CE differs between younger and older Gen Y consumers. These findings inform the optimisation of precise digital content marketing activities to enhance customer-brand relationships. Collapse

Abstract: Autonomous driving is becoming the next big digital disruption in the automotive industry. However, the possibility of integrating autonomous driving vehicles into current transportation systems not only involves technological issues but also requires the acceptance and adoption of users. Therefore, this paper develops a conceptual model for user acceptance of autonomous driving vehicles. The corresponding model is tested through a standardized survey of 470 respondents in Germany. Finally, the findings are discussed in relation to the current developments in the automotive industry, and recommendations for further research are given. Collapse

Abstract: Self-service technologies (SST) such as online check-ins are more and more becoming an integral part of our daily routines. However, while kiosk SST such as automated teller machines in banking are widely used, mobile SST are just beginning to capture the market. Enforcing customers to switch from kiosk to mobile SST sometimes still turns out to be difficult due to routine seeking, privacy risks, or fear of complex user interfaces. As a result, users are locked into a status quo and do not switch to mobile technologies. Thus, there is a need to better understand why customers switch from kiosk to mobile SST. Against this background, the aim of this paper is to gain a better understanding of the factors influencing customers’ intention to switch from kiosk to mobile SST. We investigate the positive and negative determinants, which constitute the positive and negative valence of mobile SST as factors influencing the intention to switch. Our study expands existing research by outlining the particular importance of the positive valence for the customers’ intention to switch. We further show that multifunctionality, compatibility with the lifestyle, and enjoyment constitute the most crucial positive determinants rather than prestige reasons. Collapse

Abstract: Multiple regression has a previously unrecognized “statistical blind spot” because when multicollnearity and measurement error are present, both path estimates and variance inflation factors are biased. This can result in overestimated t-statistics, and excessive false positives. PLS has the same weakness, but CB-SEM’s estimation process accounts for measurement error, avoiding the problem. Bringing together partial insights from a range of disciplines to provide a more comprehensive treatment of the problem, we derive equations showing false positives will increase with greater multicollinearity, lower reliability, greater effect size in the dominant correlated construct, and, surprisingly, with higher sample size. Using Monte Carlo simulations, we show that false positives increase as predicted. We also provide a correction for the problem. A literature search found that of IS research papers using regression or PLS for path analysis, 33% were operating in this danger zone. Our findings are important not only for IS, but for all fields using regression or PLS in path analysis. Collapse

Abstract: For decades, practitioners and scholars have focused on achieving optimal values in and benefits from enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Given that scholars have identified ERP systems as having option-like characteristics such as the capacity to create an information technology (IT) platform that enables the adoption of subsequent function-specific applications, we face a need to explore the linkage between post-ERP systems implementation and subsequent ERP-enabled technology adoption. We used real options theory to explore the underlying relationship between the initial ERP system implementation and subsequent technology adoptions. We surveyed 519 IT executives in the United States and found that the level of technology uncertainty, managerial flexibility, and formal real option analysis in ERP adoption decisions influenced the organizational relative advantage of subsequent non-ERP technologies. Our results also reveal that the level of uncertainty had a negative relationship with ERP-enabled technology adoption, while formal real option analysis in ERP adoption decisions positively influenced ERP-enabled adoption. Abstract: Members' voluntary and beneficial behaviors (i.e., citizenship behaviors) are central to the development and success of professional virtual communities (VCs). In this study, we identify two types of citizenship behaviors in VCs: those directed toward the VC and those directed toward individuals. We propose a theoretical model to examine whether VC attachment and satisfaction can have different effects on the two types of citizenship behaviors in VCs. Drawing on the "self-concept" as noted in marketing literature, we identify three needs to be fulfilled in order to establish the VC-self connection and model them as the antecedents of VC attachment and satisfaction. We empirically test the model with data collected from 196 users of a professional VC. The results indicate that VC attachment plays a more important role in explaining citizenship behaviors directed toward the VC and that satisfaction plays a more important role in explaining citizenship behaviors directed toward individuals. In addition, the three aspects of the self-concept are associated with members' VC attachment and satisfaction. We discuss the implications of our findings. Collapse

Abstract: a b s t r a c tAs with other types of online communities, the success of an online support community depends on members' behaviors that benefit the community as a whole. Such discretionary conduct is called online community citizenship behavior (OCCB). This study integrates social support and social identity theory to examine factors affecting citizenship behaviors in online support communities. In the research model, we theorize that online community citizenship behavior is driven mainly by two social mechanisms:(1) the social support mechanism, which transfers the effect of online social support first to self-efficacy, self-esteem, and subjective well-being, and then to citizenship behavior; and (2) the social identity mechanism, which relates the perceived external prestige and distinctiveness of online support communities to community identification and, in turn, to citizenship behavior. Data collected from 159 valid users of online support communities provides partial support for the research model. The findings indicate that perceived external prestige and community distinctiveness positively affect an individual's identification with an online support community, which in turn has a positive effect on OCCB. Social support has a positive effect on self-efficacy, self-esteem and subjective well-being. Subjective well-being has a stronger effect on OCCB than does community identification. Implications for theory and practice are discussed. Collapse

Abstract: Drawing on the taxonomy of social support and the transactional model of stress and coping, we proposed a dual social support model to study online social support exchange behaviors. Our model predicts that receiving problem-focused and emotion-focused support from others enhances coping resources; in turn, these coping resources are the primary drivers of the willingness to offer support to others. We empirically tested the proposed dual social support model using data collected from 212 users of online support communities. The results indicate that the problem- and emotion-focused mechanisms simultaneously, yet differentially, determine the willingness to offer support. Collapse
