Abstract: Organisations are increasingly creating inter-organisational ecosystem partnerships to innovate openly. Despite effective knowledge management significantly supporting ecosystem infrastructures, empirical insights into the importance of and interdependencies between conditions for successful knowledge exchange across ecosystem contexts remain unexplored within existing literature. This study implements a mixed-method approach to ascertain which conditions are responsible for knowledge transfer success across innovation ecosystems. Interpretive Structural Modelling was employed to analyse questionnaires with key ecosystem stakeholders, in order to impose a hierarchical structure upon the conditions. The configurational nature of these conditions, and their combinations into solutions for success was ascertained through analysing semi-structured interviews using fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis. Results reveal multiple, mutually exclusive pathways to knowledge transfer success, grouped into three solution types, increasing understanding of the interrelated nature of the knowledge transfer conditions. Abstract: Significant investments in information systems (IS) over the past decades have led to increasingly complex IS architectures in organisations, which are difficult to understand, operate, and maintain. We investigate this development and associated challenges through a conceptual model that distinguishes four constituent elements of IS architecture complexity by differentiating technological from organisational aspects and structural from dynamic aspects. Building on this conceptualisation, we hypothesise relations between these four IS architecture complexity constructs and investigate their impact on architectural outcomes (i.e., efficiency, flexibility, transparency, and predictability). Using survey data from 249 IS managers, we test our model through a partial least squares (PLS) approach to structural equation modelling (SEM). We find that organisational complexity drives technological complexity and that structural complexity drives dynamic complexity. We also demonstrate that increasing IS architecture complexity has a significant negative impact on efficiency, flexibility, transparency, and predictability. Finally, we show that enterprise architecture management (EAM) helps to offset these negative effects by acting as a moderator in the relation between organisational and technological IS architecture complexity. Thus, organisations without adequate EAM are likely to face large increases in technological complexity due to increasing organisational complexity, whereas organisations with adequate EAM exhibit no such relation. Abstract: Cyberbullying on social networking sites (SNSs) escalates when bystanders join in the bullying. Although researchers have recognized the harmful consequences of joining in cyberbullying behaviors, little is known about the role of information technology (IT) and its underlying mechanisms in fueling such negative group behavior on SNSs. To address this research gap, we develop and test an integrative model that explains bystanders’ joining-in cyberbullying behaviors on SNSs. Based on the theoretical premises of the social identity model of deindividuation effects (the SIDE model), we derive two deindividuation experiences enabled by SNSs, namely experienced anonymity and experienced social identity. We further use the social network research framework to gain insights into how IT features (i.e., digital profile, search and privacy, relational ties, and network transparency) enable these two deindividuation experiences. Considering the socially undesirable nature of joining-in behaviors, we integrate the SIDE model with moral disengagement theory to explain how deindividuation experiences allow bystanders to bypass their psychological discomfort when engaging in such behaviors through the practice of moral disengagement mechanisms. Our research model is tested using a scenario survey, with two samples recruited from Amazon Mechanical Turk and Facebook. Our results support the influences of IT-enabled deindividuation experiences on bystanders joining in cyberbullying and demonstrate the mediating effects of moral disengagement mechanisms in bridging the effects of deindividuation experiences on joining-in behaviors. For researchers, the integrative view offers a conceptual bridge connecting IT features, deindividuation, moral disengagement, and negative online group behaviors on SNSs. For practitioners, our findings provide platform owners and governmental agencies with directions on how to mitigate cyberbullying on SNSs and other forms of deviant and undesirable online group behaviors.History: Yulin Fang, Senior Editor; J.J. Abstract: Contact-tracing applications are only effective in countering pandemics when two conditions are fulfilled: A) they are widely adopted, and B) users voluntarily disclose their infection to warn others. While much research has investigated how contact-tracing applications should be designed and promoted to motivate app-adoption, little is known about how to increase voluntary infection disclosures. To increase the voluntary infection disclosure among app-users, our joint research project with the core development team of a contact-tracing application relied on the theory of message framing to investigate how to nudge users toward infection disclosure in contact-tracing applications. Based on a mixed method research design consisting of 15 workshops with the core development team of the contact-tracing application and a conjoint study among 139 users of a European contact-tracing application we show that message framing can be a useful approach to increase the voluntary infection disclosure in contact-tracing applications. Abstract: Strain theory has long been invoked to explain organizational misconduct, with underperformance creating pressure for firms to engage in morally objectionable activities. In this paper, I examine whether underperformance increases the risk of organizational misconduct. Drawing on institutional arguments about professions and social learning, I further predict that when experiencing performance strain, legal professionals will push the boundaries of the law, increasing the risk of misconduct if they have influence over decision making. However, industry peers caught engaging in misconduct should serve as negative role models, reducing the risk of the firm resorting to misconduct to overcome performance shortfalls. I test and find support for these predictions using longitudinal data on material legal claims filed against S&P 1500 firms between 2000 and 2017. The study extends the strain theory of organizational misconduct, identifying how legal professionals and negative role models shape firms’ strategic responses to performance pressure. Collapse

Abstract: This work presents insights into consumer preferences regarding Privacy ManagementSystems in the context of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The authors perform a Choice-Based Conjoint experiment with consumers (n = 589) to elicit preferences over four attributes and compute usage likelihoods for all product configurations. Results show that data sharing for marketing purposes and discounts are the most important attributes for consumers. Furthermore, consumers prefer digital access to privacy-related information, detailed rights management for data sharing and no data sharing for marketing purposes. Moreover, a cluster analysis reveals differing importance weights across clusters. The study concludes that incorporating consumer preferences into the design and development process of Privacy Management Systems could increase their use and effectiveness, ultimately strengthening consumers' privacy rights and companies' legal compliance. The authors suggest researching legal, business, and consumer requirements more holistically to converge these perspectives to improve Privacy Management Systems adoptions. Collapse

Abstract: Given the strategic importance of digital transformation, IS research pays meticulous attention to identifying its key drivers, including awareness, motivation, and capability. Nevertheless, the interaction and synergy among these drivers remain conceptually and empirically understudied. Our study tries to address this research gap. We first consider digital proactiveness as awareness, change commitment as motivation, and organizational flexi­ bility as the capability driver of digital transformation. Drawing on systems theory, this study proposes the synergy of these three key drivers in steering digital transformation. Recent data from 206 Dutch firms support the existence of synergy, showing that digital proactiveness, change commitment, and organizational flexibility contribute jointly to digital transformation. Our analysis reveals that the effect of organizational flexibility on digital transformation is highest when digital proactiveness and change commitment are both at a high level. This study extends our understanding of the complementary and synergistic digital transformation drivers and broadens research in this tradition by considering the synergy of awareness, motivational, and capability drivers in driving digital transformation. Abstract: Digital technologies are radically changing how established organizations design novel services. Digital transformation (DT) strategies are executed to manage the transition from product-centric to service-centric business models based on digital technologies. However, little is known about what configurations of DT strategies lead to successful digital service innovation (DSI) in established organizations. We employ fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis on a set of 17 case studies of DT strategies from established organizations with different industry backgrounds. We identify several distinct configurations of DT strategies that lead to successful and unsuccessful DSI. Based on these configurations, we deduce that the threat of digital disruption negatively impacts an organization’s innovation activities. Furthermore, we find that strategic partnerships can be leveraged by organizations that face an imminent threat of digital disruption while organizations with competitive advantages may rely on “do-it-yourself” approaches. Lastly, we find that the involvement of a C-level executive is a necessary requirement for successful DSI. Our results contribute to theory by integrating research on DSI and DT, providing a perspective on DSI failure, and employing a configurational research approach that allows us to highlight interdependencies between factors as well as insights into the individual factors. Abstract: Employees find contemporary ways of working very demanding. Blurred boundaries between life and work cause technostress and considerable mental strain. To overcome these shortcomings, digital health interventions (DHIs) possess the power to prevent employees from suffering health-related issues at and due to their work. We developed a theoretically sound instrument employing a unified conceptualization of health beliefs, technology acceptance, privacy concerns, and autonomy to predict preventive health and technology use behavior at work. Accordingly, we conducted a survey-based study to investigate the factors influencing DHIs use for preventive health behavior at work. Our empirical results emphasize that employees undertake a cost-benefit analysis, valuing the benefits of reducing health threats and the perceived usefulness of DHIs for taking preventive actions at work. We confirm that privacy concerns and autonomy play a vital role. Our research outlines new avenues in DHIs use by contributing a valid theoretical framework for healthier work environments. through behavior change approaches (Pagoto and Bennett, 2013). For instance, wearables for selftracking (Giddens et al., 2017) that enable self-care and autonomy at work, enhance employees' health and well-being (Lupton, 2016). Against this background, we ask which beliefs and perceptions are important in evaluating the outcome of a particular behavior (Agarwal and Karahanna, 2000) as, for example, using DHIs for preventive health behavior at work. Surprisingly, despite the radical challenges of work practices with severe implications for employees, and the grown work around health interventions, the discourse on research referring to DHIs as facilitators of preventive health behavior in organizations is still in its infancy (Melzner et al., 2014;Yassaee and Mettler, 2019;Oesterle et al., 2019;Howarth et al., 2018). We shift our attention from technology use only and move toward an understanding of preventive health and technology use behavior, supported by DHIs in occupational settings. To address our research objectives, we refer to and extend previous research on preventive health behavior and technology use with multiple technological options beyond a narrow focus on which technology to use. Our work is rooted in research on health beliefs, based on the health belief model (HBM) (Rosenstock, 1974) considering the potential to initiate and change health behavior patterns (Abraham and Sheeran, 2005), and assuming that individuals attempt to avoid perceived health threats (Abraham and Sheeran, 2005;Rosenstock, 1974;Champion and Skinner, 2008). Additionally, we investigate employees' behavior in DHIs use at work. Interestingly, the decision-making process regarding technology use for health-related reasons differs from similar processes in other contexts (Sun et al., 2013). Hence, to understand employees' preventive health behavior supported by technology use, we expect that they intend to use DHIs, which, according to the technology acceptance model (TAM) (Davis, 1989;Venkatesh et al., 2003), is a result of systemrelated characteristics that we combine with health-related variables. Further, in offering voluntary DHIs use at work to encourage employees' empowerment, we have to consider their privacy concerns and autonomy, to engage them in healthy behavior at work (Roossien et al., 2021). As it is not clear whether or how health beliefs influence preventive health and technology use behavior at work, nor whether there is a link in-between, this paper seeks to answer the following research question: What impact do health beliefs, privacy concerns, and autonomy have on employees' DHIs use for preventive health behavior at work? More specifically, our research objectives are (1) to explore whether health beliefs influence employees' preventive health behavior at work, (2) to predict employees' technology use behavior of DHIs, (3) to empirically validate the link between health beliefs, DHIs use, and preventive health behavior, and (4) to theorize the influence of privacy concerns and autonomy on DHIs use at work. Our study follows the call to unfold and predict preventive health behavior through complex causal models (Champion and Skinner, 2008) and to demonstrate the interventions' effectiveness (Abraham and Sheeran, 2005). While DHIs have the potential to intervene in unhealthy (working) behavior, we suggest an analysis of the health-related beliefs and factors related to technology use. Therefore, our theoretical framework is to develop a deeper understanding of HBM and TAM as theoretical lenses and their interplay and to offer new perspectives that could ensure healthier work environments. In a quantitative research setting, we use an online-based survey to evaluate our hypothesized relations empirically. Our findings provide compelling evidence that technology use and preventive health behavior do not emerge in isolation. More precisely, our study demonstrates the relationship between health beliefs and system-related characteristics in DHIs use at work. These results help organizations to understand the conditions under which DHIs are likely to have an impact on employees' preventive health behavior and well-being in occupational settings, which can in turn develop into a meaningful quality of work (Rongen et al., 2013). The paper is structured as follows: Section 2 introduces the theoretical background for research on preventive health and technology use behavior and the development of our theoretical conceptualization for the quantitative analysis. Section 3 introduces our survey-based approach to address the research question. We present our analysis in Section 4. Our results and implications are summarized in Section 5 together with a discussion of related literature. Section 6 concludes the paper. Collapse
