Abstract: Identity-as-a-service (IDaaS) is a cloud security service to which companies can outsource the identity and access management (IAM) functions that administer their employee’s access to organizational resources. Engaging with the information systems (IS) privacy literature, our qualitative analysis develops a framework for an organiza tional privacy calculus that informs French organizational consumers’ decisions to pursue IDaaS solutions. We collect data from employees of a multinational IDaaS provider operating in Europe but headquartered in the US. Our case study reveals the organizational privacy calculus associated with transferring control of a primary security control to a multinational cloud service provider. Collapse

Abstract: Integrating a mid-range theory and service-dominant (S-D) logic as a metaperspective is essential to quantify resource integration and determine value co-creation. This study involved a systematic review to identify the resources, what influences these resources to be integrated, and how these resources are integrated in the vehicle ecosystem. First, the study identified six main themes that represent the premises of S-D logic: service, resources, institutions, and institutional arrangements, interaction, resource integration, and value co-creation. Then, this review found the antecedents-privacy concernsoutcomes (APCO) model is presented in the investigated articles. This presents an opportunity to adopt this model as a mid-range theory. Importantly, resource integration was illustrated using privacy calculus and the relationships among the constructs. A conceptual model integrating S-D logic and the enhanced APCO model was developed, and propositions were suggested for future research. However, further research is needed to validate this model in real-life settings. Collapse

Abstract: Electric vehicles (EVs) are considered a product rather than a mobility service. The expansion of EV services requires large amounts of personal information. Due to privacy concerns, EV users may deactivate these services, leading to the discontinuance of EV services and value destruction. Service dominant logic is improving insights into the roles of resources (e.g., personal data) and institutions (e.g., concerns) in influencing individual behaviours in value co-creation (e.g., disclosing personal data). This logic is a metaperspective that needs to be integrated with mid-range theories (e.g., the enhanced antecedents-privacy concerns-outcomes) to investigate how resources, institutions and value co-creation are integrated and how to quantify this integration. This study conducted an online survey of EV users. The findings show that privacy awareness, environmental concerns and privacy concerns influence privacy calculus. However, perceived environmental performance has a stronger impact than privacy risks on intentions to continue disclosing personal data for EV services. Collapse

Abstract: 5G mobile network technologies and scenarios with the associated innovations receive growing interest among academics and practitioners. Current literature on 5G technologies discusses several scenarios and specific chances and challenges. However, 5G literature is fragmented and not systematically reviewed. We conducted a scoping review on 5G applications in urban scenarios. We reviewed 1,394 papers and identified 20 studies about urban logistics and emergency indoor localization. Our review accumulates current academic knowledge on these scenarios and identifies six further research directions in four research fields. It reveals several further research opportunities, e.g., regarding trust and privacy concerns. We review and discuss 5G literature for academics and practitioners, contribute towards more tailored 5G research and reflect on cost- efficient 5G applications in urban scenarios. Collapse

Abstract: Patients lie to their doctors for a variety of reasons such as judgement, embarrassment, and financial concerns. These reasons are different from consumer contexts where information disclosure risks include the loss of data to unknown third parties. Yet, the same theories are commonly used to frame both settings. This overextension of theory leads to important differences in the results of these studies. We propose that additional theorizing is needed to reconceptualize privacy calculus to more accurately explain healthcare patient disclosure. Using a hybrid methodology based on both a grounded theory approach and construal level theory, this study explores the perceived risks and benefits of health data and consumer data disclosure. The results reveal significant differences in psychological distance and construal levels between the two contexts which can improve future theorizing. This deeper understanding could help improve the accuracy of patient disclosure and reduce harm in clinical systems. Collapse

Abstract: This article analyzes how the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has affected the privacy practices of FinTech firms. We study the content of 276 privacy statements respectively before and after the GDPR became binding. Using text analysis methods, we find that the readability of the privacy statements has decreased. The texts of privacy statements have become longer and use more standardized language, resulting in worse user comprehension. This calls into question whether the GDPR has achieved its original goal—the protection of natural persons regarding the transparent processing of personal data. We also link the content of the privacy statements to FinTech-specific determinants. Before the GDPR became binding, more external investors and a higher legal capital were related to a higher quantity of data processed and more transparency, but not thereafter. Finally, we document mimicking behavior among FinTech industry peers with regard to the data processed and transparency. Collapse

Abstract: This research investigates technical characteristics and technological, social, and affective factors that influence the evaluation of perceived privacy risks and benefits toward adopting AI-based smart healthcare services in the USA. The study develops a research model that integrates Privacy Calculus Theory (PCT) with new constructs, i.e., AI technical characteristics (personalization and anthropomorphism), technological factors (perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness), social factors (social influence and privacy regulation) and two opposite emotional states (enjoyment and exhaustion). A survey will be developed and distributed using crowdsourcing through Prolific. The findings of our research will shed light on the different role of technical characteristics and technological, social, and affective factors on the calculus between perceived risks and benefits in relation to the adoption of AI-based smart healthcare services. Abstract: When using digital devices and services, individuals provide their personal data to organizations in exchange for gains in various domains of life. Organizations use these data to run technologies such as smart assistants, augmented reality, and robotics. Most often, these organizations seek to make a profit. Individuals can, however, also provide personal data to public databases that enable nonprofit organizations to promote social welfare if sufficient data are contributed. Reg ulators have therefore called for efficient ways to help the public collectively benefit from its own data. By implementing an online experiment among 1696 US citizens, we find that individuals would donate their data even when at risk of getting leaked. The willingness to provide personal data depends on the perceived risk level of a data leak but not on a realistic impact of the data on social welfare. Individuals are less willing to donate their data to the private industry than to academia or the government. Finally, individuals are not sensitive to whether the data are pro cessed by a human-supervised or a self-learning smart assistant. Collapse
