Abstract: Online reviews affect consumer purchase decisions and become prevalent in different sectors. Platforms elicit useful reviews by allowing consumers to vote for helpfulness. The link between review features and review helpfulness hence has been a topic of broad interest in information systems (IS) and Internet commerce. Psy chological science studies show that expressed emotions in information – valence and arousal significantly in fluence receivers’ engagement and valuation. Unlike valence (negative or positive) that is widely-analyzed, emotional arousal is a less-studied attribute of online reviews. This study presents a careful account of the nonlinear link between emotional arousal and review helpfulness. Following a rigorous procedure of theorizing and testing nonlinear relationships (Haans et al. 2016), we articulate latent mechanisms leading to an inverted Ushaped association and how valence would moderate the nonlinear effect of review arousal. We analyze reviews on experience goods from Yelp.com and find firm support for our hypotheses. The findings are triangulated using reviews on search goods from Amazon.com. While the nonlinear effect of review arousal and interactions with review valence are robust to both types of goods, an alternative moderation path of review valence on the inverted U-shaped relationship is observed. Our empirical study contributes to the literature by shedding lights on the dynamics among arousal, valence, review helpfulness, and product types, which illustrates a prototypical example to IS/e-commerce scholars on rigorously conceptualizing and estimating U-shaped links as well as their moderations. Abstract: Digital identity systems are mandated to be established by all countries as part United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDG 16.9) However, globally, over a billion people are still without a digital identity. Digital identity projects, across continents, have achieved underwhelming results and are facing implementation hurdles. This research examines the architecture and design of digital identity platforms which enable achieving platform objectives. Design science approach of General Morphological Analysis (GMA) has been employed for such examination. Cases of both-a successful and another moderately successful digital identity program implementation have been examined to validate testable propositions regrading optimal architecture/design aspects of such platforms. Research learnings are relevant for policy makers and technology designers to incorporate such platform design aspects in respective national digital identity initiatives. In addition, this research contributes to design science body of knowledge by empirical generalization of a configurable template and design factors in respect of digital identity platforms. Abstract: The adoption and diffusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in organizations are significantly influenced by many sociotechnical factors such as people, processes, or regulations. However, previous research has mostly focused on a reactive description of individual influencing factors and lacks an overarching perspective that enables active management of an organization's various AI capabilities. Therefore, this paper provides a first overarching perspective by identifying all relevant activities for the management of AI in literature and grouping them into eight different fields of action. These fields of action are then evaluated by practitioners and combined into a cross-industry reference model for AI Management. While this reference model is the first of its kind and is already making a valuable contribution to the emerging field of AI Management in Information Systems Research, further insights are expected from the future refinement and application of the model. Abstract: Many software companies are adapting their traditional development processes to incorporate agile practices. In this context, it is necessary to count on expert knowledge to evaluate different agile practices and configure them according to project needs. However, this expert knowledge is scarce, difficult to validate, and time-consuming, since it is applied manually. As a solution, the paper presents a model-driven approach, called SIAM, which automatically generates guidelines for the adoption of agile practices through the combination of different development methods. SIAM is supported by a meta-model architecture to implement a knowledge repository that characterizes method configuration decisions, which can be reused in different development projects. SIAM has been implemented in a tool suite that facilitates the specification of models and the identification of issues during the definition of the development processes. The approach has been successfully applied to reconfigure an industrial development process with agile methods, showing that the effort required for tailoring agile practices according to organizational standards is considerably reduced. Abstract: Critical infrastructure (CIs) such as power grids link a plethora of physical components from many different vendors to the software systems that control them. These systems are constantly threatened by sophisticated cyber attacks. The need to improve the cybersecurity of such CIs, through holistic system modeling and vulnerability analysis, cannot be overstated. This is challenging since a CI incorporates complex data from multiple interconnected physical and computation systems. Meanwhile, exploiting vulnerabilities in different information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) systems leads to various cascading effects due to interconnections between systems. The paper investigates the use of a comprehensive taxonomy to model such interconnections and the implied dependencies within complex CIs, bridging the knowledge gap between IT security and OT security. The complexity of CI dependence analysis is harnessed by partitioning complicated dependencies into cyber and cyber-physical functional dependencies. These defined functional dependencies further support cascade modeling for vulnerability severity assessment and identification of critical components in a complex system. On top of the proposed taxonomy, the paper further suggests power-grid reference models that enhance the reproducibility and applicability of the proposed method. The methodology followed was design science research (DSR) to support the designing and validation of the proposed artifacts. More specifically, the structural, functional adequacy, compatibility, and coverage characteristics of the proposed artifacts are evaluated through a three-fold validation (two case studies and expert interviews). The first study uses two instantiated power-grid models extracted from existing architectures and frameworks like the IEC 62351 series. The second study involves a real-world municipal power grid. Abstract: In this paper we aim to improve our understanding of the dynamics of IS architecture complexity (i.e, the change in this complexity over time) during the execution of a consolidation IS integration strategy (IIS). Based on two case studies, we find that unexpected levels of complexity emerge during IIS execution because of an underestimation of requisite complexity and an overestimation of the potential to reduce complexity. Our analysis shows that increased complexity is due to the fact that the intended consolidation IIS is only partially executed, and to increasingly emergent IIS execution. Additionally, we find that while complexity was reduced at the portfolio level, at more detailed levels of observation complexity was actually increased. Our paper contributes to knowledge in the field by providing a deeper insight into IS architecture complexity dynamics during the execution of a consolidation IIS, and the concept of IS architecture complexity in general. Abstract: Increased regulation creates challenging requirements for production environments, changes mindsets, opens IT silos, and forms IT landscapes with greater integration. Many researchers and practitioners hope to meet future product traceability requirements beyond their companies' borders using Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) approaches. However, interdisciplinary teams still face different organizational and technical standardization challenges in supply networks. This paper uses a Design Science Research (DSR) approach to unify contradictory event terminologies in supply chains and creates a modified Unspent Transaction Output (UTXO) token that conceptualizes EPCIS 2.0 standards. The findings show an evaluated input-output traceability system (IOTS) mapping holistic meta-events. We use a simple cross-organizational example and visualization tools that multiple organizations can deploy for efficient backwards and forwards traceability. Abstract: AI-based recommendation systems to augment working conditions in the field of IT service management (ITSM) have attracted new attention. However, many IT support organizations possess high volumes of tickets but are confronted with low quality, to which they train the underlying models of their AI systems. In particular, support tickets are documented insufficiently due to time pressure and lack of motivation. Following design science research, we design and evaluate an analytics pipeline to address the data quality issue. The pipeline can be applied to assess and extract high-quality support tickets for subsequent model training and operation. Based on a data set of 60.000 real-life support tickets from a manufacturing company, we develop the artifact, instantiate a recommender system and achieve a higher prediction performance in comparison to naïve enrichment methods. In terms of data management literature, we contribute to the understanding of assessing textual ticket data quality. By deriving a pipeline reference model, we move towards a general approach to designing machine learning-driven data quality analytics pipelines for attached recommender systems. Collapse

Abstract: The ever-growing amounts of data offer companies many opportunities for data-driven-value generation which, in turn, can be multiplied by leveraging data across company boundaries in evolving data ecosystems. However, while such systems increasingly emerge in B2B environments enabling systematic sharing and utilization of “industrial data”, comparable concepts in B2C ambits have not yet prevailed. Despite the rising importance of personal data in the information economy, B2C data ecosystems represent a widely unexplored research area. To remedy this gap, the study generates design principles for human centric B2C data ecosystems to aid in their development. For this purpose, a qualitative interview study with experts of interdisciplinary domains and a structured literature review are conducted both embedded into a methodology for generating design principles. On this basis, derived design principles help to understand peculiarities of data ecosystems in B2C ambits and provide solutions to overcome their obstacles identified in the empirical investigation.
