Abstract: The proliferation of digital devices, rapid development of software and the infrastructure of today, have augmented user's capability to produce data at an unprecedented rate. The accelerated growth of data could be called the era of big data and forced a paradigm shift in data engineering because the variety, velocity and volume of data overwhelmed existing systems. While companies attempt to extract benefit from big data, success rates are still low. Challenges such as rapid changes in technology, organizational culture, complexity in data engineering, impediments to system development, and a lack of effective big data architectures mean that only an estimated 20% of companies achieved their goals. To this end, this study explores a domain-driven distributed big data reference architecture that addresses issues in data architecture, data engineering, and system development. This reference architecture is empirically grounded and evaluated through deployment in a real-world scenario as an instantiated prototype, solving a problem in practice. The results of the evaluation demonstrate utility and applicability but with architectural trade-offs and challenges. Collapse

Abstract: Agile transformations cause fundamental changes to work designs. To better understand resistance to transformations, we shed light on employee preferences and the consequences of team and work organization changes for job satisfaction. Using the stated preference method "pairwise comparisonbased preference measurement", we examine our hypothesis on job satisfaction in agile vs. traditional team and work organization. Furthermore, we relate job satisfaction to the gap between perceived and preferred forms of such organizations. In summary, we identified team organization as the most important dimension in agile transformations. For requirements engineering, the distance between employee preferences and the perceived status quo was particularly large. Further, we found evidence that a larger distance between team and work organization preferences and perceptions negatively influenced job satisfaction. Collapse

Abstract: While Augmented Reality (AR) glasses are now instrumental in industries for delivering work-related information, the current one-size-fits-all information provision of AR glasses fails to cater to diverse workers' needs and environmental conditions. We propose a framework for harnessing Internet of thing (IoT) and wearable technology to improve the adaptability and customization of information provision by AR. As a preliminary exploration, this short paper develops a multi-modal data processing system for work performance classification in the aviation industry. Using machine learning algorithms for multi-modal feature extraction and classifier construction, this framework provides a more objective and consistent evaluation of work performance compared to singlemodal approaches. The proposed analytics architecture can provide valuable insights for other industries struggling to implement IoT and mixed reality. Collapse

Abstract: The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) paradigm means that “things” in an industrial context are equipped with connectivity. The convergence of formerly isolated Operational Technology with IT provides disruptive opportunities for organizations but is also vulnerable to cyberattacks. To mitigate these risks, the IEC62443 standard was developed, which will be mandatory for critical infrastructure organizations due to the EU Cybersecurity Act. This standard demands various requirements for the technology and organizational aspects of organizations. To implement the standard’s technical requirements and demonstrate compliance, applications can be used. This paper utilizes Design Science Research (DSR) to design, develop, and demonstrate Security Iiot pRocEss Notation (SIREN), an approach based on Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) to model and monitor processes and compliance. Previous research have yet to cover the IIoT explicitly and lack the monitoring of the modeled attributes. Therefore, a novel specialized approach is presented, enhancing the model with monitorable attributes based on the standard. Thus, this paper presents a BPMN-based approach to model and monitor security-aware processes in IIoT. Collapse

Abstract: The elicitation of requirements is central for the development of successful software products. While traditional requirement elicitation techniques such as user interviews are highly labor-intensive, data-driven elicitation techniques promise enhanced scalability through the exploitation of new data sources like app store reviews or social media posts. For enterprise software vendors, requirements elicitation remains challenging because app store reviews are scarce and vendors have no direct access to users. Against this background, we investigate whether enterprise software vendors can elicit requirements from their sponsored developer communities through data-driven techniques. Following the design science methodology, we collected data from the SAP Community and developed a supervised machine learning classifier, which automatically detects feature requests of third-party developers. Based on a manually labeled data set of 1,500 questions, our classifier reached a high accuracy of 0.819. Our findings reveal that supervised machine learning models are an effective means for the identification of feature requests. Collapse

Abstract: The challenge of sustainability rests on the ability of organizations to change their practices to meet the needs of current and future generations. To date, most research on organizational change has focused on how to change within a single organization. However, an increasing number of sustainability challenges require changes across multiple organizations. In this paper, we summarize strategic challenges faced in such a setting and outline a conceptual modeling approach for strategic analysis of alliance-driven solutions. Abstract: Static stability is one of the most important constraints in the design and efficient calculation of safe air cargo pallets. To calculate the static stability of a cargo layout, base-focused methods such as full or partial base support are often used. Compared to mechanical or simulation-based methods, they offer high performance and simplicity. However, these methods currently reach their limits when dealing with the practical complexity of air cargo, making them difficult to apply in practice. In this research, we extend and generalize these support point methods by modeling irregular and multilevel cargo shapes, which enables improved practical applications. We follow a designoriented approach to capture air cargo requirements, design an artifact, and evaluate its performance. Our results show a generalized approach that covers a greater practical complexity while maintaining its efficiency. Collapse

Abstract: Smart traffic management initiatives are a growing trend in many cities. While they have the potential to fundamentally improve traffic in urban areas, their success is determined by the citizens' use of the applications developed in related projects. However, citizens are rarely involved in the requirements elicitation or development process encompassed within such initiatives, even despite research showing the high potential of user-centric software development. In a multiple-methods approach combining focus group discussions and a quantitative survey, we investigate how citizens can be integrated in the specification process of data-driven traffic management applications and whether their involvement can influence the intention to use those applications in the future. With our findings, we contribute to the field of user-centric software design in information systems research applied to smart cities and offer insights into citizen involvement in that context. Abstract: Requirements engineering is perceived as one of software development's most vital but complex activities. Despite considerable advances, many software products continue to fail to fulfil their users' needs. A multistakeholder environment with several groups of users and developers additionally exacerbates known challenges in requirements elicitation. Following principles of action research, we investigate how practices of design thinking as an established approach to human-centred innovation may overcome or at least attenuate challenges of requirements elicitation in a multi-stakeholder environment. By observing and modelling the current requirements elicitation process of a multi-stakeholder app development project of an international OEM, we identified several challenges, for example, related to arbitrary prioritisation of requirements. Integrating our empirical observations of the requirements elicitation process with extant knowledge of design thinking, we propose a new requirements engineering process to address the challenges we identified. An evaluation of Infused Design thinking within the new process in the app development project supports the expectation of improved outcomes. As a key benefit, we observed improvements in the understanding of user needs in the engineering and development teams when harnessing the new process. We conclude by discussing the implications of our results for both research and practice. Collapse

Abstract: Digital platforms have emerged as an important technology underpinning the new economy. A key problem in such platforms concerns provisioning decisions for customer-service requests, in order to maximize the pro­ vider’s revenue subject to resource availability. Provisioning is important to meet customer needs, and in turn, for customer retention. The service provisioning problem, in addition to being NP-hard, is further compounded by the fact that the timeframe to make provisioning decisions is short, and more importantly, varies considerably across different platform domains. Digital-platform customers often request bundled services and are sensitive to when tasks get completed. We describe a behavioral-economic model of this problem and develop a domainindependent solution featuring a judicious combination of optimization-backed rule-based approach. Through extensive computational results, we show how our approach has the potential for generalizability and tailor­ ability across different domains in a seamless manner, thus offering the advantages proposed in the softwarereusability literature. Implications to platform sustainability, reusable platform solutions and to practical ap­ proaches to real-time platforms are also provided. Collapse
