Abstract: Multi-channel human-computer interaction offers a new perspective for optimization research in the digital museum, though there is no empirical evidence on how these factors affect cognition. This paper conducted a controlled experiment using the audio guide as a breakthrough point, aiming to determine the cognitive changes before and after the audio-visual dual-channel interaction. The results demonstrate that adding the auditory channel brought more cognitive load but not better cognitive outcomes. This paper evaluated the reasons behind it and noted that designing channels based solely on technical feasibility is undesirable, with suggestions pro­ posed for museum practitioners and platform developers. Abstract: Organizations use a plethora of methods and tools to help their members solve problems effectively. Yet the specifics of how individuals solve problems remain largely unexplored. We propose and test a cognitive model of problem solving that integrates dual process theories into the attention-based view. The model suggests that diverse problem-solving strategies emerge in response to how individuals deliberate. Three studies provide observational and causal evidence in support of our model. The first study explores the strategies managers use to solve problems. We use think-aloud protocols combined with content, sequence, and cluster analyses to extract the key differences in how experienced managers solve problems. Two problem-solving strategies emerge from the data: one emphasizes mental activities related to framing, and the other emphasizes mental activities related to implementation. In the second study, we use a mixed factorial experimental design and mouse-tracking analysis to uncover the causal mechanism that explains the emergence of these two strategies. We then retest our hypotheses in a third, preregistered, study. We find that manipulating attention toward mental activities related to framing increases deliberation aimed at restructuring the problem elements. In contrast, directing attention toward mental activities related to implementation increases deliberation on the potential contingencies and consequences of the solution. Abstract: In a thought-provoking paper published in EJIS more than a decade ago, Lyytinen and colleagues asked the question, why does the “old world” perform poorly in high academic impact publishing? This triggered a lively debate on the epistemological and methodological traditions, preferences, and research practices of Europeans versus North Americans that has lasted until today. Is it still true, we asked ourselves, that European scholars generate less academic impact than their North American colleagues? Is the European research context indeed disadvantageous for developing high academic impact research? In this paper, we set out to explore these questions by analysing the Google Scholar profiles of 1713 IS researchers from all over the world. Our findings show that Northern and Western European scholars no longer seem to differ significantly from their North American peers, even though the different research contexts still exercise a certain level of influence. However, is this a development the “old world” desires? We provide an assessment and some suggestions for the future of European IS research. Collapse

Abstract: Platform providers in the sharing economy such as AirBnB face a trade-off between providing information on the object of the transaction and providing more information about the transaction partner. We view this trade-off from an economic perspective as the choice between complete or relational contracts. Using a global data set of AirBnB listings, we empirically compare the strength of influence of premises-specific versus host-specific in­ formation on pricing on that platform. The results indicate that partner-specific information in fact has only a comparatively weak influence on prices. This sheds critical light on the frequently used argument that in the sharing economy, personal information is essential to establish the necessary trust between transaction partners. We also find that the importance of premises-specific versus partner-specific information varies with the type of premises being rented. Collapse

Abstract: Frequent tweets of the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, provide a unique opportunity to study how financial markets respond to his statements. To do this, we utilize a precise timestamp of each tweet together with high-frequency financial data. We start by analyzing the impact of tweets in general, irrespective of their content. We find that tweets by President Trump are followed by increased uncertainty, increased trading and a decline in the US stock market. We utilize two methods in order to study whether the market reaction depends on the content of the tweets. First, classification of Trump’s tweets depending on whether they contain a specific word reveals that market response is particularly negative for tweets containing the words “products” and “tariff”. Second, we use Latent Dirichlet Allocation to affiliate tweets with distinct topics. We find that while most topics do not impact financial markets, the US stock market responds to tweets related to the topic of a “trade war” by price decline, increased trading volume and increased uncertainty. The “trade war” tweets affect other financial markets too, as the Chinese stock market responds to these tweets negatively, while the price of gold responds positively. We illustrate the practical importance of our approach by an automated trading system, which achieves positive abnormal returns. Collapse

Abstract: How do firm-specific factors impact strategic IT decisions such as IT outsourcing? Do non-financial factors in­ fluence these decisions? Whereas prior IT outsourcing research has focused primarily on normative, economic drivers of IT outsourcing, we find evidence of firm-specific non-financial factors influencing IT outsourcing decisions. We focus on the social influence perspective and use IT outsourcing decisions as exemplars of strategic IT decisions. Using a data sample of 77 outsourcing contracts from the automotive industry from 1995 to 2010, we find that even after controlling for financial factors, industry average levels of outsourcing can be used to distinguish strategic outsourcing behaviors of firms for IT enabled services. Firms with above-average levels of IT outsourcing tended to further increase outsourcing, a behavior consistent with perceived Red Queen competitive pressures. Firms with below-average levels of IT outsourcing showed no measurable trends of either increasing or decreasing outsourcing levels. This suggests that firm-specific factors influence IT outsourcing decisions and deviations from non-financial industry norms can indicate how firms make strategic IT decisions. Collapse

Abstract: Trust plays an important role in sharing transactions on short-term rental platforms. However, the impact of host self-description on trust perception and whether trust perception can influence purchase behavior remain under-studied. Therefore, a text analytics framework was proposed to research the relationships among host self-description, trust perception and purchase behavior on Airbnb. Specifically, a deep-learning-based method was designed to automatically code trust perception of host self-descriptions. And the linguistic and semantic features of description texts were extracted with text mining methods. The estimated order quantity was used to quantify purchase behavior. Then, the influence of linguistic and semantic features on trust perception was identified, and the relationship between trust perception and purchase behavior was also verified. The empirical analysis derives the following findings: i. The readability of self-description is positively associated with trust perception; ii. Perspective taking expressed in self-description is also helpful; iii. Excessive positive sentiment expression can raise barriers to trust building; iv. Paying more attention to family relationship, openness, service and travel experience in self-description would be helpful; v. Trust perception can promote purchases. These findings can help hosts write better self-description, which contributes to trust building and purchases on short-term rental platforms. Collapse

Abstract: As e-government websites grow in functionalities and capabilities, there is a need to better understand the nuanced role of service quality to enable governments to better address citizens' online service needs. Such an understanding should help improve overall e-government use by citizens. Thus motivated, our paper investigates how users respond to the service quality perception-expectation gap in e-government websites. We draw on rational choice theory (RCT) to develop a theoretical model linking expected and perceived information systems (IS) service quality to continued e-government website use intentions. The proposed model is empirically tested using polynomial modeling and response surface analysis. The results indicate that, in contrast to the organizational context, for e-government websites, both agreement and disagreement between expected and perceived IS service quality are positively associated with continued use intention. In our sample, as high as 77 percent of respondents appear to be in the zone of tolerance, suggesting that users can tolerate wide variations in service quality before they consider seeking alternatives to e-government websites.
