Abstract: Although voice is communication that is intended to benefit the performance of collectives, little is known about the benefits or costs to individual task performance and what mechanisms drive these effects. Our research offers new theory to articulate and illustrate the conditions under which voice has positive versus negative effects on individual task performance by directly acknowledging that employees have many options for where to direct their ideas. We introduce an agency perspective on voice by theorizing that one fundamental reason why employees speak up is to generate the implementation of corrective action for issues affecting themselves and to the extent targets of voice have agency to facilitate action through implementation of voice, voicing employees should be more likely to realize performance benefits from speaking up. In a first field study, we present evidence that two characteristics—the hierarchical position of the voice target (boss versus peer) and the competence of the voice target—alter the relationship between voice and the voicing employee’s task performance. In a second field study, using an event-contingent design, we provide evidence of the unique mechanisms underlying how competent managers (via their resources) and competent peers (via their efficacy to act) affect how upward and sideways voices lead to idea implementation. We discuss the theoretical implications of these ideas and findings by highlighting how voice target characteristics influence not just the incidence of voice but also, its outcomes. Abstract: The Industrial-Metaverse will create interactions between the physical and virtual worlds to extend operations in the physical industry. This particularity and the demand for increasing immersion in the Metaverse require using XR technologies called User-Metaverse interfaces (UMI). How such a UMI must be designed for the industrial-Metaverse is unknown. This study adopts a design science approach to design a UMI based on social-cognitive theory (SCT). According to SCT, creating user-generated Metaverse content is crucial to the UMI design. It empowers users to generate content through their efforts, leading to higher self-efficacy and user engagement. We formulate two theoretically based design principles and instantiate a software artifact, which we evaluate in a laboratory experiment with 57 participants. Our study shows the importance of belief in success in the design of future UMI. Furthermore, our design principles show significant positive outcome expectations of users in their interaction with the software artifact. Collapse

Abstract: Nonmalicious information security violations (NISV) that employees engage in can pose a problem to organizations. The Social Cognitive Theory was used to investigate the roles of three constructs, (a) peer support, (b) perceived organizational support, and (c) personal goal setting in reducing NISV. The study also examined the interactions among the three variables. Relevant hypotheses were formulated, and survey data were obtained from 204 German workers. The partial least squares technique was used for data analysis. The results showed that the three factors could reduce employee engagement in NISV.Another key finding of the study indicates that the interaction between personal goal setting in reducing engagement in NISV and peer support significantly reduced employee participation in NISV. In contrast, the interaction between perceived organizational support and personal goal setting related to NISV avoidance did not. The implications of the study's findings for practice and contributions to research were discussed.Employees engage more in nonmalicious information security violations (e.g., visiting non-related websites and disclosing work passwords to others) than in malicious acts (e.g., sabotage or theft). Research on how to diminish such behaviors is emerging. This study contributed to that discourse by examining the roles of personal goal setting regarding avoiding NISV, peer support to shun NISV, and Peer, Organizational Support, Goal setting, and Nonmalicious Security Violations Twenty-ninth Americas Conference on Information Systems, Panama, 2023 9 perceived organizational support in reducing employee engagement in the behavior. The data confirmed the significant impact of the three factors in diminishing workers' urges to engage in such behaviors. The result also showed that the combination of personal goal setting regarding avoiding NISV and peer support to avoid such practices could engender desired outcomes. Insights generated from this current work are expected to motivate future studies on how to contain workers' participation in NISV. Collapse

Abstract: Disasters bring uncertainties and substantial health, economic, social, and psychological challenges. Effective management of disasters requires thorough understanding of their causes, nature, and consequences. Affected individuals may, therefore, seek instant, trustworthy information from different sources including social networking sites (SNSs). This study investigates what leads individuals to seek disaster information on SNSs. The investigated potential drivers are source credibility (SC), argument quality (AQ), self-efficacy (SEF), perceived usefulness of information (OUI), and behavioral intention (INT). The results confirm the newly emerged source & argument quality (SAQ) construct, SEF, and PUI are significant antecedents of INT, which in turn influences disaster information seeking behavior (ISB) via SNSs. Abstract: This study contributes to the information systems literature on mobile health interventions and omnichannel management by examining the relative effectiveness of mobile and offline channels in facilitating personal weight management. Drawing on the social cognitive theory of self-regulation, our empirical analysis utilizes a system generalized method of moments approach applied to panel data on customers enrolled in a weight loss program that delivers services through multiple channels, including a mobile app and offline office visits. Our results show that the use of the mobile app is positively associated with weight management by both free and paid users. For paid users, who have access to the mobile app and office visits, usage of both channels is associated with increased short-term weight loss. Furthermore, the two channels function as substitutes for one another, with users able to compensate for infrequent offline store visits through more intense mobile app usage. In the long term, however, only mobile app usage (and not offline store visits) contributes to the sustainability of weight loss, as reflected in reduced weight variability and lower overall failure rate. Qualitative evidence gleaned from interviews with actual customers substantiated the self-regulation mechanism enabled by mobile app usage. Additional empirical analyses further revealed that frequency and granularity of mobile app usage are positively associated with weight loss. We also found that individuals exposed to low performance pressure benefit more fully from mobile app usage. The results are robust to endogeneity concerns and alternative measures of the key variables. Overall, our analysis sheds light on the important role of a self-regulatory mobile app in a multichannel setting of personal weight management, as compared with the external influence stemming from human experts in offline channels, with useful implications for research and practice. Abstract: Intelligent process automation is a technological innovation that combines symbolic automation tools with machine learning. Intelligent process automation can automate complex tasks that otherwise have to be performed by humans when symbolic automation is not powerful enough. Regardless of the high economic potential for companies, the adoption rate in practice is comparatively low. This could be due to the adoption behavior of the employees. In our work, we iteratively develop a Unified Theory of Acceptance and use of Technology (UTAUT) model for the adoption of intelligent process automation and evaluate it with an empirical study. With our research we want to empower designers to adapt the corresponding tools in the future to increase adoption. The study shows that, in addition to established factors for technology adoption, trust, transparency, and attitude towards technology are primary decision factors. Collapse

Abstract: We investigate the effectiveness of goal management in online health communities (OHCs) in light of social support and self-regulation for patients with chronic diseases. With a five-year longitudinal data set, we found that informational support contributes to both goal progress and self-reflection. Emotional support encourages patients to practice self-reflection if the goals are set for non-mental diseases. We also find that patients’ selfreflection promotes goal progress. Finally, the lack of attention control negatively affects goal progress and self-reflection. Grounded in social cognitive theory, this study is among the first to empirically examine the effect of self-regulation and social support in OHCs. Collapse

Abstract: Our increasingly complex and dynamic environment demands comprehensive self-regulatory skills from university graduates. Self-regulation summarizes the ability to set goals, monitor progress, and adopt behavior purposefully. In an increasingly technology-enhanced learning environment, information systems (IS) research explores approaches to promote self-regulation in students' learning activities. However, it is unclear whether this self-regulated learning (SRL) prepares students for leadership roles. To address this research gap, we gather survey data and apply multiple regression analysis to examine how SRL strategy usage is linked to self-leadership (SL) strategy usage. Our results suggest that behavioral SL strategies are related to the usage of SRL strategies, e.g., the SL strategy "self-rewarding" to the SRL strategy "repeating". In contrast, SL strategies such as "mental imagery" are unrelated to SRL. Based on these findings, we suggest a target-oriented use of digital technologies to foster SL and reveal the need to promote SL strategies like "mental imagery" separately. Collapse

Abstract: A sustainable digital future of education is at its high call and various digital tools are being used to establish digital learning -but limited attention is paid to quality and virtual competence for the success of Digital Learning System (DLs). This study addresses the gap and outlines satisfaction as a function of quality factors (perceived knowledge quality and interactive quality) and virtual competence that subsequently determines net benefits (perceived learning). DLs success model is proposed by mapping into sequential building blocks of DeLone and McLean IS success model and integrating social cognitive theory. Quantitative online survey data from 156 German and Swedish students confirm that perceived knowledge quality, sociability-based interactive quality, and virtual competence play an important role towards students' satisfaction and perceived learning. The salient highlighted factors provide a novel contribution deemed indispensable for DLs success. The findings suggest future research avenues for theory and practice. Collapse

Abstract: In this study, we propose and examine the concept of information security ignorance, which is an individual’s chosen state of remaining underinformed about information security. Ignorance may be a rational choice for individuals when feeling overwhelmed by the available information. The findings of this study, based on the analysis of 319 survey responses, suggest that media and interpersonal communication influence information security ignorance. However, personal traits, including locus of control, intellectual curiosity, and computer anxiety, play a stronger role in shaping ignorance. Security ignorance was found to be positively related to the perception that the Internet is a safe place. Collapse
