Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) has tremendously transformed the patterns of security surveillance employed by governments. Although the primary goal of security surveillance is to maintain social order and enhance citizens' protection, significant privacy concerns were raised for citizens given the unprecedented amount of personal data accessed by various types of AI-powered security surveillance (AISS) systems, such as facial recognition technologies. Nonetheless, policymakers and academia rarely paid attention to the citizens' views as the main stakeholders of these systems. Motivated by this, in this study, we develop a theoretical model drawing on the assertions of the Social Exchange Theory (SET) to explain the factors and mechanisms that influence citizens' support for AISS. In particular, we elaborate on the role of privacy-security tradeoff, trust, and power and their interplay in explaining citizens' supportive attitudes. Potential contributions from this research to theory and practice are also outlined. Collapse

Abstract: Social media networks (SMNs) are increasingly used in professional management of knowledge workers and related assets. However, the factors affecting behavioral trends and activity levels in these networks are not well understood. Although social and cognitive theories can help to explain human behavior in traditional social networks, their application to SMNs has not been validated. Traditional social network modeling techniques may not accurately predict real-world SMN activities. This research developed a temporal graph framework for in telligence extraction in SMNs. Theory-based, data-driven models (Conformity Model (COM), Recency-Primacy Model (REM), Trend Interaction Model (TIM), Periodic Interaction Model (PIM)) were developed based on the framework to capture various aspects of user behavior: conformity effect, recency, primacy, periodicity, and dynamic trend. The models capture the activity history and dynamically combine pricing information to enhance predictive accuracy. Using data of 83,536 GitHub software repositories on cryptocurrency, this article reports the results of experiments that compare the models’ performance in predicting SMN activities over time. Experi mental results show that the model (REM) that captures recency/primacy effects of human cognitive processing outperformed other models in 9 (out of 18) measures pertaining to engagement, contribution, influence, and popularity. Primacy plays a dominant role in predicting engagement, contribution, and popularity, whereas recency plays a key role in predicting influence. Short-term trend (modeled with TIM) was found to yield significantly better performance on predicting user contribution. The models also outperformed an integrated machine learning (IML) model by most measures. Overall, the effects modeled by REM and TIM were found to be more significant than the effects modeled by COM, PIM, and IML. The research contributes to enhancing un derstanding of SMN behavior, developing new models to simulate and predict SMN activities, and designing new artifacts for information systems practitioners to manage knowledge assets and to extract SMN intelligence. Abstract: Online health communities (OHCs) represent a popular and valuable resource for those seeking health information, support, or advice. They have the potential to reduce dependency on traditional health information channels, increase health literacy and empower a broader range of individuals in relation to their health management decisions. Successful communities are characterized by high levels of trust in user-generated contributions, which is reflected in increased engagement and expressed through knowledge adoption and knowledge contribution. However, research shows that the majority of OHCs are composed of passive participants who do not contribute via posts, thereby threatening the sustainability of many communities and their potential for empowerment. Despite this fact, the relationship between trust and engagement, specifically the trust antecedents that influence engagement in the OHC community context has not been adequately explained in past research. In this study, we leverage social capital behavior and social exchange theory frameworks in order to provide a more granular trust-based elucidation of the factors that influence individuals’ engagement in OHCs. We collected data from 410 Brazilian participants of Facebook OHCs and tested the research model using partial least squares. The results confirm two new constructs—online community responsiveness and community support—as trust antecedents that influence engagement in OHCs, resulting in knowledge adoption and knowledge contribution responses. These findings contribute to the trust and engagement literatures and to social media research knowledge. From a practitioner perspective, the study findings can serve as an important guide for moderators and managers seeking to develop trusted and impactful OHCs. Collapse

Abstract: With the wide use of information technologies including Big Data and artificial intelligence (AI), consumers' personal actions (their search history, transaction records, click-through behaviors, etc.) can be tracked, recorded and analyzed by the service provider (e.g., Google) to provide personalized services. Under the current regime, consumers usually hand over their personal data for free in exchange for high-quality services. As it becomes more and more commonly accepted that "data is property," should consumers be entitled to claim their property rights over their personal data? New technologies emerge to empower consumers to control their own data, and the service provider may need to compensate for the usage of such data. How consumers and the service provider should react to such technologies, however, is not clear. We build a theoretical model in which consumers have different sensitivities towards their data ownership. We show that the impact of the data ownership shift depends not only on the service provider's revenue structure and the discount in the service quality offered to non-data-providing consumers, but also on whether and how consumers are compensated. More importantly, if the service provider can endogenously adjust the qualities of services provided to consumers, the shift of data ownership may not necessarily benefit consumers, or harm the service provider. Abstract: This study delves into how employee proactiveness on enterprise social media can influence social outcomes at work, both positively and negatively. Drawing on social network and social exchange theories, we develop a model to understand how virtual proactiveness is perceived by leaders and coworkers. Using a round-robin design, we collected data from 281 respondents in 56 teams across three waves. The results show that affili ative and challenging proactiveness positively relate to leader-member and team-member exchanges. However, challenging proactiveness negatively affects team-member exchange, potentially leading to coworker envy. These findings shed light on the intricate social dynamics in remote working environments. Collapse

Abstract: In this paper, we studied the influence of implicit power in an e-commerce setting where humans negotiated with computer agents. Implicit power is defined as a kind of perceived power gained indirectly through offer exchange. In much of the past research, power was always considered to be expressed directly through chat or natural language communications during negotiation. We suggest that there is another mode of expressing power other than chat: implicitly influencing. Specifically, we designed an experiment where several aspects of implicit power were studied: anchoring, agent profile image, and experiment subjects’ personality. In our experiment, the subjects negotiated the purchase of a laptop with computer agents acting as sellers. The result suggested that implicit power indeed influenced the negotiation result. Abstract: Data breach recovery is often likened to service failure recovery. Like service failure recovery, compensation is a major factor toward data breach recovery. However, compensation involves different types, which may have varying effects on data breach recovery. This study investigates the effect of compensation types on customer's repatronage intentions to organizations that have suffered a data breach. Three compensation types were identified in this study: monetary, service, and psychological compensation. The findings of this study indicate that only service and psychological compensation have a significant effect on customers' perceptions of being treated fairly by the organization following a data breach. Furthermore, service compensation impacts the trust a customer regains in the company. Monetary compensation did not play a statistically significant role in the data breach recovery process. In turn, both perceived fairness and regained trust influences customer repatronage intentions. This study contributes to the information privacy field by identifying the types of compensation that are impactful to re-engage individuals who suffered PII related data breach. Collapse

Abstract: Donation-phobia has been spreading across several Korean nonprofit organizations (NPOs) because of donationrelated scandals. This study analyzes whether blockchain-based donation system (BDS) can resolve this problem by enhancing NPOs’ trustworthiness. This study examined the effects of the following three features of BDS: transparency, immutability, and efficiency, along with their subsequent effects on formation of NPOs’ trust worthiness. Accordingly, information on NPOs’ activities was offered using a BDS with a two-group post-testonly design. The results demonstrated that information provided on the BDS site enhanced the three features of the BDS, which improved the trustworthiness of the NPO. Collapse
