Abstract: Social media networks (SMNs) are increasingly used in professional management of knowledge workers and related assets. However, the factors affecting behavioral trends and activity levels in these networks are not well understood. Although social and cognitive theories can help to explain human behavior in traditional social networks, their application to SMNs has not been validated. Traditional social network modeling techniques may not accurately predict real-world SMN activities. This research developed a temporal graph framework for in telligence extraction in SMNs. Theory-based, data-driven models (Conformity Model (COM), Recency-Primacy Model (REM), Trend Interaction Model (TIM), Periodic Interaction Model (PIM)) were developed based on the framework to capture various aspects of user behavior: conformity effect, recency, primacy, periodicity, and dynamic trend. The models capture the activity history and dynamically combine pricing information to enhance predictive accuracy. Using data of 83,536 GitHub software repositories on cryptocurrency, this article reports the results of experiments that compare the models’ performance in predicting SMN activities over time. Experi mental results show that the model (REM) that captures recency/primacy effects of human cognitive processing outperformed other models in 9 (out of 18) measures pertaining to engagement, contribution, influence, and popularity. Primacy plays a dominant role in predicting engagement, contribution, and popularity, whereas recency plays a key role in predicting influence. Short-term trend (modeled with TIM) was found to yield significantly better performance on predicting user contribution. The models also outperformed an integrated machine learning (IML) model by most measures. Overall, the effects modeled by REM and TIM were found to be more significant than the effects modeled by COM, PIM, and IML. The research contributes to enhancing un derstanding of SMN behavior, developing new models to simulate and predict SMN activities, and designing new artifacts for information systems practitioners to manage knowledge assets and to extract SMN intelligence. Abstract: The short-term room rental online platforms have boomed in the era of digital business acceleration, as they offer excellent opportunities for interactive behavior between host and guests. However, pursuing customer repeated bookings is a challenge on these platforms. How to increase customer repeated bookings in the short-term room rental market? We examine theoretically and empirically this crucial research question. Drawing on the theo retical foundations of the social interaction theory, we identify and study three host-guest interactions that can affect customer repeated bookings: overall interaction, individual interaction, and offline interaction. We conduct a combination of empirical methods, including text mining and econometrics, using longitudinal data of 36,072 order records and review contents from 5002 listings and 2181 hosts in six cities Xiaozhu.com, which is a prevalent short-term room rental services provider in China. We find that overall host-guest interaction (online reply rate, acceptance rate, confirmation time) and individual host-guest interaction (the existence of individual interaction, absolute text length, and text similarity) increase customer repeated bookings. We also discover that offline host-guest interaction is a substitute for the effect of individual interaction (existence, text length, and similarity) on customer repeated bookings. Collapse

Abstract: Link recommendation has attracted significant attention from both industry practitioners and academic researchers. In industry, link recommendation has become a standard and most important feature in online social networks, prominent examples of which include “People You May Know” on LinkedIn and “You May Know” on Google+. In academia, link recommendation has been and remains a highly active research area. This article surveys state-of-the-art link recommendation methods, which can be broadly categorized into learning-based methods and proximity-based methods. We further identify social and economic theories, such as social interaction theory, that underlie these methods and explain from a theoretical perspective why a link recommendation method works. Finally, we propose to extend link recommendation research in several directions that include utility-based link recommendation, diversity of link recommendation, link recommendation from incomplete data, and experimental study of link recommendation. Abstract: This paper explored the relative effectiveness of alternative classifiers to estimate how likely an applicant is to default in individual consumer credit services offered by ecommerce platform or online payment company. Specifically, our work thus contributes to the following research questions: (i) What features should be introduced in the new context of e-commence (e.g. social features)? Which features plays important roles in credit scoring? (ii) How to tuning classification algorithms in an efficient way to avoid model inefficiency? (iii) Do ensemble classifiers real improve classification ability? Data mining methods were adopted in the effort to answer these questions. The testing results indicated that extreme gradient boosting, a novel ensemble classifier, seems to be very adequate to be used for credit scoring of its good performance under imbalanced credit scoring sample. In addition, we also conducted feature importance analysis and enhanced the interpretability of credit scoring model. Collapse

Abstract: a b s t r a c tBecause of the increasing significance of social communication technologies within an organization, they have become a new form of information processing, resulting in business process transitions and increased benefits. By applying media richness theory and social theories, this study investigated how social communication technologies (SCTs) can be used by an employee to fit his/her task characteristics. Additionally, it also examined how the employee's social relationships moderated media usage in the current job environment and how this usage influenced the task performance. Five media were selected in this study (telephone, video conferencing, email, instant messaging, and blog). Using a hierarchical regression approach, we found that task characteristics were related to media usage, whereas social factors (social influence and social affinity) moderated the degree of the relationships. A few particular media and technologies seemed to perform well, however these are influenced by the social aspects. Moreover, the usage of social technologies results in positive task performance. The performance of a few specific technologies demonstrated binding effects (email performance was associated with instant messenger performance). In summary, we found that the usage of SCTs is instrumentally determined by the interaction between the task and social relationships. Collapse

Abstract: To compete in today's rapidly paced business environment, many companies are increasingly relying on their employees to generate creative solutions to business problems. Specifically, through the use of idea-generation techniques, business owners hope to promote creative idea generation by their employees. Several leading corporations (and, concomitantly, researchers) have become interested in the use of group support systems (GSS) to enhance idea generation. A key component of the GSS-based idea-generation process is group memory, a repository of ideas created by users of GSS. Group memory provides stimuli, in the form of ideas, to the individuals using the software. This study seeks to better understand the manner in which the contents of the group memory influence the type of ideas generated by individuals in the group. The authors report the results of a laboratory experiment that investigated whether the stimuli contained within a GSS group memory (i.e., ideas) systematically influenced the extent of paradigm shift represented in the ideas generated by individuals. A GSS simulator designed for this study was used to allow for the manipulation of the stimuli in the group memory. The results suggest that individuals tend to generate ideas that match the paradigm-relatedness of ideas provided to them as stimulation. Collapse

AbstractThe study investigates the media selection behavior of directors (executives) and managers through the use of multiple methods. The findings indicate the directors were more "self" oriented in their media choices, more often choosing media based on access/ease of use criteria, while the managers were more "other" oriented, more often making choices based on media richness/social presence criteria. These differences have implications in the interpretation of communication from directors and managers to the rest of the organization and suggest a model for understanding the use of "rich" and "lean" communication media.
