Abstract: This research contributes to the knowledge of how Information Systems (IS) researchers can iteratively intervene with practitioners to co-create instructional programs with a framework designed for fast-paced, rapidly changing IS fields such as cybersecurity. We demonstrate how complex fields, such as cybersecurity, have the need for a skilled workforce that continues to rapidly outpace supply from universities. IS researchers partnering with practitioners can use this research as an exemplar of a method to design, build, and evaluate these innovative co-curricular IS programs. Moreover, we find these co-curricular IS programs are essential to upskilling students, integrating training on the latest tools, systems, and processes in these rapidly evolving disciplines. Abstract: With the rise of socio-political movements seeking to improve women's circumstances in society, research on gender has been continuously growing in Information Systems (IS) research. Despite this growth, critical-ethical perspectives on gender power dynamics are lacking. Therefore, we critically investigate the perceptions of male and female IS developers on gender inequalities using feminist ethics of power. We find that interviewees coincide in the belief that inequalities are improving and that gender is not a limiting factor of competencies. However, men and women deviate regarding perceptions of respect and validation, equality, and the drivers that (re-)produce disparities. Additionally, women exhibit fragmented conceptualizations of inclusion. Through a critical analysis of these findings, we expose ethical dilemmas that arise from these contradictory perceptions of gender inequalities and propose pathways for transforming the prevailing order. Our study contributes by advancing a broader perspective on inequalities through the lens of feminist ethics of power. Collapse

Abstract: This paper used web scraping and data mining to analyze 831 health informatics job advertisements on indeed.com. Results showed that 87% of jobs explicitly required a college degree in a related field, 41% of jobs preferred a graduate degree, while 29% preferred or required professional certification. The analysis showed that preferred skills were analytics problem solving, communication skills, oral communication, interpersonal skills, project management, statistics, and critical thinking. The analysis also showed that college degrees, certifications, and the above-mentioned skill set are in high demand for working in the field of health informatics, especially in states with large populations and strong economies. Our results inform curriculum development of health informatics programs in higher education, which helps map knowledge units across the curricula to bridge the skills gap and meet employers' expectations. At the same time, the results help job seekers familiarize themselves with what employers seek in a successful candidate. Collapse

Abstract: Digital transformation is driving demand for information technology (IT) professionals. Addressing the underrepresentation of women in IT is a promising way to expand the pool of potential candidates. This research aims to determine how women without IT-specific knowledge can potentially contribute to reducing the gender gap in the German IT sector, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. A case study with qualitative interviews within a medium-sized IT service company was conducted to answer the research question. The results reveal that targeted job advertisements can successfully introduce women from other sectors to the possibility of a career change in the IT environment. In this way, new female employees can be recruited, reducing the gender gap. Collapse

Abstract: This study investigates how one personality trait of CIOs and CEOs, i.e., their empathy, affects CIO–CEO re­ lationships and then the outcomes of firms’ ongoing digital transformation. We hypothesize that the cognitive and emotional empathy of CIOs and CEOs can establish mutual understanding and trust, which in turn improve digital transformation. We empirically validate these hypotheses based on a survey of 105 pairs of matched CIOs and CEOs. The findings reveal asymmetric effects: CIOs’ empathy improves CIO–CEO relationships and then digital transformation, but CEOs’ empathy does not show significant effects. We then discuss our findings and implications to theory and practice. Collapse

Abstract: The dynamic nature of the ICT field makes it extremely difficult and challenging for educators to determine what skills and technologies are continuously pertinent and in-demand. Therefore, a frequent evaluation of critical skills supply and demand is necessary for education programs to stay relevant and effectively teach state-of-the-art skills. The main aim of our ongoing research project is to analyze how the current educational curricular guidelines address the requirements for competences of modern ICT workplaces in Poland and Norway, and thus, prepare the academia to adequately respond to the challenges imposed by the industry. The goal is to produce a general framework and models for future curriculum guidelines, and course planning and design, as a step towards workforce development that possess skills relevant for the future challenges of the modern ICT workplace environments. Abstract: An important challenge facing higher education institutions is authentically assuring graduate capabilities, including the assessment of 'softer skills'. Many institutions have developed procedures through curriculum reform and renewal processes, but too often these processes involve isolated approaches such as 'ticking the box', use of summary statistics and gap analysis which are both imprecise and piecemeal. Despite growing interest in assuring employable graduate capabilities, there has been little research into using a structured holistic approach engaging with multiple key stakeholders. This research proposes a decision support system adopting a multi-criteria decision approach (MCDA) to appraise whole of degree level outcomes and the robustness of assessment policy decisions. The objective is to authentically assure graduate capability by considering multiple key criteria to reduce arbitrariness of current approaches to assessment design. Multiple scenarios are presented to explain the application of MCDA in evaluating assessment benchmarks using simple to complex criteria. Collapse

Abstract: Our increasingly complex and dynamic environment demands comprehensive self-regulatory skills from university graduates. Self-regulation summarizes the ability to set goals, monitor progress, and adopt behavior purposefully. In an increasingly technology-enhanced learning environment, information systems (IS) research explores approaches to promote self-regulation in students' learning activities. However, it is unclear whether this self-regulated learning (SRL) prepares students for leadership roles. To address this research gap, we gather survey data and apply multiple regression analysis to examine how SRL strategy usage is linked to self-leadership (SL) strategy usage. Our results suggest that behavioral SL strategies are related to the usage of SRL strategies, e.g., the SL strategy "self-rewarding" to the SRL strategy "repeating". In contrast, SL strategies such as "mental imagery" are unrelated to SRL. Based on these findings, we suggest a target-oriented use of digital technologies to foster SL and reveal the need to promote SL strategies like "mental imagery" separately. Collapse

Abstract: Job placement data is important for understanding where graduates get jobs. We present an empirical study of eight years of undergraduate and graduate IT placement data to explore IT jobs obtained within IT functions. Niederman, Ferratt, and Trauth (2016) propose clustering IT jobs into four macro-level categories based on the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) required for these jobs: IT bridgers, technical specialists, application domain specialists, and IT managers. They argue an increased need for and value placed on "bridgers" who can fill bridging jobs within IT. Bridgers within IT possess both technical and "soft skills" like communications/managerial and change/project management and work within the IT function but can liaise between IT and business units. Using a longitudinal sample of 1,980 IT graduates from one Information School, the data supports that IT bridgers are hired within IT, are hired earlier, and are largely hired in consulting, technology, and finance industry sectors. Contributions include exploring the utility of the macro-level categorization of NFT IT job categories to analyze job placement, the importance of tracking IT job placement in employer sectors, and the overall value of IT placement data for IT educators and administrators.
