Abstract: Due to the highly uncertain nature of the business environment, firms have been increasingly improving their supply chain resilience, especially in the context of supply chain disruptions. In this study, we examine supply chain resilience from the perspective of business-IT alignment, and further explore the moderating role of market orientation. Based on data collected from 177 firms in China, we test our model by using polynomial regression analysis and response surface methodology. Results show that a positive relationship between business-IT alignment and supply chain resilience exists, and a such relationship is further strengthened by market orien­ tation. Our study is one of the first attempts to explore the effect of business-IT alignment on supply chain resilience. The theoretical contributions and managerial implications of the current study are also discussed. Collapse

Abstract: Long term sustainability in a competitive and changing environment requires an organization to continuously learn and adapt. The ability to access and use new knowledge is contingent on the organisational absorptive capacity (AC). In this paper, we focus on how an organization’s absorptive capacity and its enterprise system practices develop and co-evolve over time. Analysing a fifteen years’ ERP practice in an organisational context, this study synthesizes a new AC analysis framework that takes into account the dynamic nature of AC. This high-level analysis coupled with a longitudinal view resolves inconsistent results between current AC studies and suggest further directions for organisational AC research. Collapse

Abstract: Low-carbon development based on low energy consumption, low pollution and low emissions has become an important strategic choice for worldwide governments to achieve sustainable development. In order to support smart government in decision making, information systems have been developed to monitor and predict CO2 emissions. Most of the existing studies investigate CO2 emission amounts, identify influencing factors of CO2 emission and discuss potential suggestions to mitigate CO2 emission for different industries. They often focus on CO2 emission research of industries in a region or country, while the integration of carbon flow in the neighboring regions is not well studied. Therefore, this paper proposes a system dynamics model to explore an optimal carbon emission reduction path of a regional industry by integrating regional differences, i.e., industrial comparative advantages, technology advantages and the inter-regional context between the neighboring regions. In the case study, we use a key industry in a typical industrial region of Western China, the cement industry in Chongqing, as a scenario to simulate the CO2 emission, possible energy demand and cement production of the cement industry in this region for recent years. Simulation results show that by leveraging the regional differences, especially the collaboration of the industrial chain and production capacity among regions, the cement industry in Chongqing can achieve the low-carbon target. In addition, through the analysis and discussions about the features of our model and Chongqing’s cement industry, it reflects that our model using regional differences is applicable to industries with a common demand market at the regional level such as energy, chemical and steel industries. Abstract: An extensive penetration of digital technologies and a myriad of connected devices, people, and organizations have led to a world more interdependent than ever. Powerful companies such as Amazon, Facebook, Apple etc. exemplify the potential to harness widespread innovation from countless actors, including consumers and developers, via the power of digital technologies, emphasizing the notion of ‘Ecosystems’. Although the importance of these structures is obvious to the success of digital ventures, less is actively known about the development of established ecosystems in the era of digital innovation. Accordingly, we investigate the automotive ecosystem’s evolution by conducting a longitudinal study, spanning three time periods from 2002 to 2017. We illustrate the ecosystem’s development by visualizing the constituting companies and relations and assess key measures of network structure. By contrasting our empirical results with knowledge on biological ecosystem change, we derive implications for an IS specific ecosystem change theory. Collapse

Abstract: Drawing upon the boundary spanning and institutional theories, this study investigates the influence of interorganizational systems (IOS) use and interpersonal ties between a firm and its suppliers on a firm’s digital innovation and how such effects are moderated by institutional distance between the firm and its suppliers. Based on a pilot test of 123 Chinese firms, our results find that a firm’s use of IOS significantly improves its digital innovation, while interpersonal ties between the firm and its suppliers do not significantly improve the firm’s digital innovation. Further, we find that institutional distance between the firm and its suppliers differentially moderates the influences of IOS use and interpersonal ties on digital innovation. Specifically, institutional distance negatively moderates the impact of IOS use on digital innovation yet positively moderates the impact of interpersonal ties on digital innovation. We further discuss the theoretical contributions and managerial implications of the current study. Collapse

Abstract: Several Web and social media analytics require user geolocation data. Although Twitter is a powerful source for social media analytics, its user geolocation is a nontrivial task. This paper presents a purely word distribution method for Twitter user country geolocation. In particular, we focus on the frequencies of tweet nouns and their statistical matches with Google Trends world country distributions (GTN method). Several experiments were conducted, using a recently created dataset of 744,830 tweets produced by 3298 users from 54 countries and written in 48 languages. Overall, the proposed GTN approach is competitive when compared with a state-of-the-art world distribution geolocation method. To reduce the number of Google Trends queries, we also tested a machine learning variant (GTN2) that is capable of matching the GTN responses with an 80% accuracy while being much faster than GTN. Abstract: The increased digitalization of work results in practices that are increasingly networked and knowledge-based. As such, we need to continuously inquire how digital technology leads to changes in work and not be content knowing that it leads to change. This paper contributes to advancing such knowledge through an analysis of digitalized condition-based maintenance of machinery in a Swedish iron ore mine. Drawing on the distinction between digital representation and digital meditation figurations of human and material agency, we analyze how the distributed network of workers used a diverse portfolio of digital technologies to make complex knowledge-based decisions on when and how to maintain the mining machinery. We combine these empirical insights with extant literature to advance a new theoretical perspective on how key characteristics of digital technologies are implicated in networked, knowledge-based work practices. Abstract: The application of the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies has the potential to reshape inter-organizational collaboration across industries. This study explores the influences of the use of IoT for information sharing in the steel industry networks. Shared data may have multiple uses, including optimization, integration, automatization, and adaptation of objects in their environments. To date, research on IoT has mainly proposed its use in independent nodes and clusters possessing excessive data from their own actions. Conversely, our study emphasizes the benefits that accrue from intensified collaboration. Our findings emphasize that IoT enabled material intelligence can restructure the existing steel industry networks. We identify critical components of supply chain information capabilities in terms of interorganizational information system capacity and inter-organizational relational competency. In view of the high degree of industry concentration in Korea, this article presents and tests a research model using a sample of Korean steel suppliers. Empirical tests are conducted using the structural equation modeling, PLS (partial least squares). The results of this study suggest that Korean manufacturing (e.g., automobile, shipbuilding, construction, and mobile industries) are heavily influenced by the competitiveness of the steel industry in terms of supply chain information capabilities and performance outcomes-supply chain-level (i.e., supply chain flexibility) and firm-level performance outcomes (i.e., customer responsiveness and cost reductions). Future research may extend the findings of this study in other country contexts to accomplish both customer responsiveness and cost reductions through supply chain information capabilities. Collapse

Abstract: With reward (carrot) and punishment (stick) widely applied by organizations to regulate mandatory IT usage, it is imperative to understand how these incentives influence employee compliance behavior. Drawing upon control theory and regulatory focus theory, this study investigates the relationships among regulatory focus, reward, punishment, and compliance behavior in mandatory IT settings. Survey data were collected from 186 employees in companies where enterprise resource planning (ERP) compliance was mandated. Analyses reveal that punishment expectancy is a strong determinant of compliance behavior, whereas the main effect of reward expectancy is not significant. Moreover, the relationship between reward expectancy and compliance behavior is moderated by promotion focus and the relationship between punishment expectancy and compliance behavior is moderated by prevention focus. This study provides an in-depth understanding of reward and punishment in mandatory IT settings and suggests that regulatory focus plays an important role in affecting employees' compliance with organizational controls.
