Abstract: The implementation of Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning systems (Cloud ERP) is always challenging, which requires a variety of risks to be taken into consideration to ensure the success of the implementation. The assessment of Critical Success Factors (CSFs) in on-premise ERP implementations has been well documented but this research has not carried through to Cloud ERP implementations. Therefore, the contribution of this paper is to provide research and practice with identification and analysis of 35 CSFs through a systematic literature review. Drawing from the literature, we found security, project management, and communication are the top three widely cited CSFs during implementation. We also identify critical gaps in current research, such as inconclusiveness of findings related to CSFs and a lack of discussion on the nature of criticality of those CSFs. Furthermore, the attributes of CSFs are investigated in order to explore CSFs in a more logical and systematical way. Collapse

Abstract: Information technology (IT) represents a large portion of an organization’s investments. Prior research has identified the linkage between IT investment and productivity. Numerous factors affect the value an organization can derive from its IT investment. However, extant literature has insufficiently studied IT governance’s impact on IT’s business value. In this study, we help to fill this gap by investigating the effects of IT decision making structure mechanisms and senior management’s IT governance involvement on the relationship between IT investment and organizational performance. This study builds on a novel framework that integrates two theories on IT in an organizational setting: strategic choice theory and contingency theory. We pool organization-level IT investment and IT governance practice data with other organization characteristics to investigate the moderating effects of IT governance practices. The empirical analyses reveal a positive moderating effect of IT decision marking structure mechanisms on the IT investment–organization performance relationship. Nevertheless, the results indicate that senior management’s IT involvement has no significant effect on this relationship. This study shows the importance of IT governance for organizations to effectively leverage their IT investment. Collapse

Abstract: In this study, we theorize a new construct ‘board IT competence’, and show that it is systematically related to firm performance. Using a sample of 32,856 firm-years observations over the period of the year 2000 to 2018, our study shows that board IT competence is positively associated with firm performance. Moreover, the findings suggest that firm performance is not only higher, but also more consistent across time. While many firms find it difficult to identify the right sources in developing IT competence at the board level, our study suggests that a board composition that promotes the representation of directors with relevant IT competencies can offer valuable insights to mobilize and reconfigure IT asset to create firm value. Abstract: This study draws from strategic choice theory, management fashion theory, and trust research to investigate organizational transformation toward cloud service. Considering organizations’ substantive rationality, this study proposes that SMEs’ entrepreneurial orientation and the institutional pressures received from the marketplace provide motives for their cloud transformation intention. These influences are mediated by a complex trust-building process. A survey involving 107 Chinese SMEs was conducted to validate our research model. The results illustrate that SMEs’ trust building toward the cloud-related situation and artifact plays a critical role in mediating the effects of strategic orientation and institutional pressures on their cloud transformation. Abstract: In spite of the potential benefits of board IT governance and the costs of ineffective oversight, there has been little field-based research in this area and an inadequate application of theory. Drawing upon strategic choice and institutional theories, we propose a theoretical model that seeks to explain the antecedents of board IT governance and its consequences. Survey responses from 188 corporate directors across Canada indicate that both board attributes and organizational factors influence board involvement in IT governance. The results suggest that proportion of insiders, board size, IT competency, organizational age, and role of IT influence the board's level of involvement in IT governance. The responses also indicate that board IT governance has a positive impact on the contribution of IT to organizational performance. Overall, the results support the integration of strategic choice and institutional theories to explain the antecedents to board IT governance and its consequences, as together they provide a more holistic framework with which to view board IT governance.
