Abstract: Research on an Artificial Pancreas has gained its momentum and focused on the processing of clinical data for continuous insulin administration. However, the overall research is rather sketchy, fragmented and not very well coordinated. In this paper, we propose an architectural model for creating software intensive environments, which address deficiencies of current solutions for insulin infusion. A new way of defining which data should be collected and which types of computations should be performed with the data is important if we wish to come close to the functioning of a natural pancreas. An excerpt of the proposed software architecture has been deployed using Watson Analytics and performed upon a selection of data collected from sensors, individual patient’s input and persistent patient records. Abstract: The paper proposes a software architecture for applications which use the reasoning upon SWRL enabled OWL ontologies and SQL like retrievals as core computational models. The application assists patients affected by diabetes 2, to personalize the reversibility of the condition through the diet and life style changes. The novelty is in (a) the deployment of SWRL enabled OWL ontologies in the management of data related to the personalisation of reversibility of diabetes 2 and in (b) the proposed software architecture, which contains and manipulates the SWRL enabled OWL ontology and SQL databases at the same time and transparently. The application, which has been implemented within the Java environment and NetBeans, is reusable in any other problem domain when the personalization of healthcare delivery is required. The proposed architecture also generates applications within Android environments without changing its style and the computational models. Collapse

Abstract: Prescribing the right drugs for a patient is a difficult task that takes into consideration several factors. The Institute of Medicine (IOM), U.S.A., has reported based on two major studies (1999–2001 & 2006) that prescribing the wrong medication is a big problem, and the effects can sometimes be fatal. To address this problem, we designed and implemented, a distributed intelligent mobile agent-based system by the name, OptiPres. This system will be used by doctors on their smart phones while prescribing medicines. It will assist them in making more informed decisions by either choosing the optimal solution from processing a repository of past decisions or by presenting a set of possible drugs and using criteria specified by them to identify the optimal drug. The evaluation of OptiPres was done by comparing its recommended outcome of three predefined medical scenarios against the recommendations from a group of doctors and the World Health Organization (WHO) manual entitled:‘Guide to Good Prescribing’. The results indicate that OptiPres is effective in prescribing optimal drugs and in reducing the cognitive burden on doctors, especially in subjective decision making contexts where they have to consider multiple parameters. Abstract: Resource Allocation (RAlloc) is one of the most important tasks in organizing humanitarian response to humanitarian crises. It is not only that adequate and efficient RAlloc save lives and reduce damages caused by humanitarian crises, but RAlloc must be fast and efficient to save time and resources. Given that RAlloc is a type of a decision making process, it is expected that decision on RAlloc are based on accurate and relevant information generated at various stages of humanitarian response. In this paper we promote Semantic Resource Allocation (SemRAlloc) tool which a) collects and interprets the semantics of an environment where RAlloc is required and b) the reasons upon the semantics of that environment in order to make appropriate RAlloc. The tool is built with computations based on SWRL enabled OWL ontologies. The prototype has been implemented as a desk-top application which can also run in mobile/wireless environments, including Android smart phones. Collapse
