Abstract: The information systems (IS) literature elaborates on how firms develop organizational agility based on organizational capabilities to sense and respond to rapidly changing environments. However, the underlying mechanism of how companies and their chief executive officers (CEOs) understand and implement digital technologies to foster organizational agility is lacking. The technological frame concept provides an impetus to explain the process by which CEOs' sensemaking of digital technologies influences organizational agility. Our paper draws on the individual-level perspective of the technological frame concept and proposes a mediating role of digital business capabilities, composed of digital strategy, digital integration, and digital control. Our quantitative research design is based on findings derived from 386 German CEOs and confirms that CEOs' technological frame influences organizational agility through digital business capabilities. Thereby, we expand the concept of the technological frame on the individual level and contribute to the IS literature by revealing the mechanism of how CEOs' sensemaking influences organizational agility. Abstract: As work becomes increasingly decentralised, employers and employees alike are searching for tools that support (self-) organising and leadership in dispersed teams. Therefore, people analytics, as a form of algorithmic management, is increasingly gaining popularity. However, besides the alleged potential held by people analytics, it also has an inherent potential to serve as surveillance software and to perpetuate existing biases and discrimination. Whilst vendors of people analytics software provide a positive narrative and researchers from different disciplines provide extensive literature reviews, empirical insights remain scarce. Falling back on privacy calculus theory, we develop a research model to explain employees' perception of people analytics deployment in their workplace. Leveraging insights from a scenario-based online survey, we find that employees overwhelmingly disagree with the concept of people analytics. Implementing people analytics causes privacy concerns and erodes employees' trust in their organisation to a level where they are likely to consider leaving the company. Collapse

Abstract: Cyberattacks can be considered one of the fundamental challenges that paralyze the progress of digital payment usage (DPU) progress among citizens, as consumers shun away from using digital banking services due to increased concern over information security. National Cybersecurity Commitment (NCSC) has emerged as a preventive cybersecurity mechanism for countries to tackle such cybersecurity threats. Previous studies have shown that a country's NCSC positively impacts the business and economy of the country. This study examines the effect of NCSC on digital payment usage (DPU) across nations by grounding our discussion on the institutional trust theory. As trusting belief in security measures is a culturally embedded characteristic, we also examine the moderating role of national culture through Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. We use multilevel models to analyze publicly available archives of repeated cross-sectional data covering 76 countries to test the proposed relationships. Our findings indicate that NCSC has a positive influence on DPU. Further, our results highlight that the relationship between NCSC and DPU in a country is contingent on cultural dimensions. Overall, the evidence suggests that a competent cybersecurity environment compatible with cultural values can influence the speedy diffusion of digital payments in a country. Abstract: Although initial adoption of an information system has been shown to influence system success, further value can be obtained when end-users move beyond adoption, utilizing more features of the system and integrating it into their work routines. Organizations can increase the post-deployment utilization of their systems by emphasizing continued interaction between developers and end-users. In this study, we develop a research model investigating the influence of shared understanding, faithfulness of appropriation, and consensus on spirit on post-deployment system utilization. Using a sample from a healthcare organization, we show that increased end-user postdeployment interaction with developers supports a shared understanding between the two groups, which ultimately impacts both the routinization and infusion of a system. This study provides a contribution by demonstrating the impact of developer/user interaction in the post-implementation phase of systems development. Collapse

Abstract: In the digital economy, firms’ IT resource investments represent a significant portion of their capital investments. IT governance processes are critical for companies to decide what and how to deploy IT resources and measure and achieve the expected business benefits. This study introduces and measures the concept of IT governance process capability, which is defined as the firm’s ability to identify, design, implement and leverage the following IT governance processes: IT decision-making, IT planning, IT infrastructure modernization, IT services delivery, and IT monitoring. We propose that IT governance process capability can improve IT performance, which in turn can improve business performance. Using a unique dataset from 881 global companies, we found support for the proposed research model. This paper contributes to the Information Systems (IS) literature on business value of IT by conceptualizing, evaluating, and introducing the construct of IT governance process capability and theorizing and proving how this core IT capability positively affects IT performance to enhance business performance. Abstract: IT ambidexterity, the ability to simultaneously explore and exploit IT resources, is becoming increasingly important because it influences the organizational agility and helps organizations deal with growing levels of paradoxical tensions. In response to the opportunities and threats in the digital world, firms implement IT projects that face decision paradoxes which confront aspects such as control and autonomy, stability and change, and short- and long-term view. Extant theories describe how certain IT components contribute to IT ambidexterity; however, the literature is silent on how effectively managing these paradoxes in IT projects influences IT ambidexterity. To address this gap, this paper proposes a new construct, IT project ambidexterity, the ability to ambidextrously deal with paradoxes in IT projects, evaluate its influence on IT ambidexterity with a sample of 132 Brazilian IT executives, and found a relevant effect of IT project ambidexterity on IT ambidexterity. Abstract: The growing complexity of systems, the increasing intensity of their use, and the greater prominence of technology in supporting organizational activities has meant that information systems (IS) professionals in organizations have to go beyond offering routine task-related support when working with their non-IS colleagues. For organizations to see IS professionals as effective, they have to carry out empathic behaviors such as sharing their IT knowledge with their non-IS colleagues and taking the initiative to minimize inconveniences during IS projects. Drawing from the organizational citizenship behavior concept, we develop a multilevel research model to examine how behaviors that IS professionals perform influence IS departments' effectiveness. Using data from more than 1,000 respondents working in the global finance industry, we conducted both cross-level and unit-level analyses and found results that support our arguments. Our results deepen the extent to which we understand the role that IS professionals play in supporting post-adoption IS use and digitally empowering business units while also performing their traditional roles. Abstract: This research paper assesses complexity in cloud computing adoption, using the context of the local government sector in Australia. The research utilized both cloud computing adoption literature and an Information Systems Complexity Framework to propose a complexity assessment model for cloud computing adoption. A mixed method approach was used in this research. Firstly, we conducted 21 indepth interviews with IT managers in the local governments in Australia to obtain their insights into the complexity of cloud computing adoption. Secondly, a quantitative method is used in which 480 IT staff from 47 local governments responded to an online survey to validate the proposed assessment model. The findings indicate that structural complexity of an organization (i.e., knowledge management), structural complexity of technology (i.e., technology interoperability, and data processing capability), dynamic complexity of an organization (i.e., business operations), and dynamic complexity of technology (i.e., systems integration, IT infrastructure update, and customization resources) are critical complexity aspects to be considered during cloud computing adoption. These findings provide important implications for both researchers and managers that are trying to understand the complexities involved in cloud computing adoption. Collapse

Abstract: In digital environments, individuals tend to share disproportionally more information than in face-to-face communication. Critically, disclosing personal information can yield risks such as unwanted monitoring or discrimination. Privacy nudging is a promising approach to get users to disclose less personal information. In this work, we tested two nudges corresponding to the issue of personal privacy. A framing nudge conveys an intensive message, and a social nudge provides social cues. To empirically test these nudges, we evaluated an experiment with 223 participants. The results indicate that privacy nudges negatively influence information disclosure behavior. The social nudge was perceived as a threat. The framing nudge directly affected negative emotions and the social nudge indirectly. Perceived threat and negative emotions have a significant negative effect on information disclosure intention. With this research, we contribute to the discussion of what drives privacy nudge effectiveness and influences information disclosure behavior in digital work environments. Collapse

Abstract: The information technology (IT) field faces a skills shortage. Only 17% of a projected 3.5 million computing job openings are expected to be filled by 2026 (National Association for Women & Information Technology, 2018). Yet the number of women pursuing IT careers continues to decreaseonly 19% of IT bachelor's degrees in 2016 were awarded to women compared to 57% of bachelor's degrees overall. We compared three theories that could explain this gender gap in the pursuit of IT careers: expectancy-value theory, role congruity theory, and field-specific ability beliefs theory. We find that women and men are similar in their levels of important factors related to career interest, but that two of these factors-technical learning self-efficacy and agentic goals-have increased salience for women. This suggests that some of the gender gap in the IT field could be addressed by placing more focus on developing technical learning self-efficacy in both men and women. While this could help both women and men, it would likely have an outsized effect on the IT career pursuit of women. Collapse
