Abstract: Commercializing data and data-related services has gained in importance in recent years. Driven by digitalization and the Internet-of-Things (IoT), companies and individuals continuously generate vast amounts of data. Data marketplaces have emerged to support these data providers in selling their data to different data consumers. However, data marketplaces face challenges in different data governance decision domains that inhibit their adoption. To get a better understanding of how data marketplaces counteract these challenges, this paper develops a taxonomy of data governance decision domains in data marketplaces. We used a taxonomy development method to inspect 13 data marketplaces from eight countries. The resulting taxonomy shows an overview of mechanisms concerning data quality, data security, data architecture, metadata, data lifecycle, data storage, and data pricing. We discuss common instantiation patterns, highlight gaps, and propose possible solutions. The taxonomy sets a foundation for further research and theory-building on data marketplaces. Practitioners can use the taxonomy to develop customized data governance strategies for data marketplaces. Collapse

Abstract: Design science research addresses important, complex real-world problems. Although well-accepted as part of research in information systems, initiating or progressing a design science research project still requires effort to describe how knowledge creation emerges and its underlying dynamics. Given the existing body of knowledge on design science research, it should be possible to learn from that knowledge to progress future work. This paper analyzes design science research projects to identify and make explicit their knowledge contributions while recognizing the plurality of a project's knowledge contributions with respect to a project's knowledge scope and knowledge goals. The construct of a path of knowledge types is introduced that represents how knowledge con­ tributions are dynamically created throughout a project. These paths form the basis for the derivation of seven design science research strategies, which lead to guidelines for initiating or progressing a project. This effort is compared to other research that analyzes the growing body of work in design science with respect to knowledge contributions and project classifications. Collapse

XAI offers transparency of AI and ML that can bridge the gap in information that has been absent from "black-box" models. Given its nascency, there are several taxonomies of XAI in the literature. The current paper incorporates the taxonomies in the literature into one unifying framework, which defines the types of explanations, types of transparency, and model methods that together inform the user's processes towards developing trust in AI and ML systems. Abstract: Digital environment has transformed the work environment of marketing firms. Traditional marketing processes are repetitive, lack coordination, and are not dynamic or data-driven. To compete effectively in the digital world, marketing firms need a digital marketing analytics operations platform (DMAOP) optimized for data analytics, workflow, team coordination, and quick decision-making. We developed a DMAOP using a design science research model known as ADR. DMAOP uses data analytics leading to marketing decisions that create value with intelligent robotic processes assisting marketing practitioners in executing marketing actions. DMAOP is customized to a user's skill level, supporting marketing functions, advanced analytics, preserving privacy, and episodic reporting for users without technical skills. This study contributes to descriptive knowledge problem space by identifying the key aspects of DMAO. It also contributes to the "elaborated ADR" model with a new cycle, "personalization". Finally, it contributes to prescriptive knowledge and DMAOP instantiation with design science for digital platforms. Collapse

Abstract: Digital forensics is an ever-growing field of science that is heavily involved in various fields. However, because of the expanding complexity of computer science, many new problems have arisen for digital forensics such as data scalability and cloud computing forensics data privacy, data traceability, integrity, and chain of custody. Blockchain can be useful for digital forensics to ensure security, like Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake. Proof-of-Work verifies that one node has done adequate computational work to other nodes on the network. Proof-of-Stake is a similar consensus mechanism but relates more to cryptocurrency. In literature, there are several attempts to synthesize the blockchain's digital forensics capabilities from a technical standpoint. After analyzing these review papers, we identify there is still a lack of classifying the solutions following an artifact classification taxonomy, understanding the broader impact of technical solutions following theories such as socio-technical theory, and summarizing the research contributions towards developing a design theory. The objective of this paper, thus, is to develop research propositions regarding the digital forensics use-case of blockchain following artifact taxonomy, socio-technical theory, and design theory. Abstract: Online cancer communities established by non-profit cancer organisations help cancer-affected people seeking information and facing emotional and psychological challenges to communicate and interact with a network of people suffering from similar issues. However, the quality features of online cancer communities from the perception of users of the information are under-researched. Using the factors credibility, content, and design, this study adopted a multi-theory perspective by integrating the Information Quality (IQ) assessment framework, the source credibility model, and the two-factor theory for website design to develop a framework to examine the quality indicators of online cancer communities. Data collected via semi-structured interviews with 14 participants showed that dimensions underlying content and credibility factors are crucial for using the online community. All dimensions underlying the design factor were essential factors, except for the visualisation of the website and privacy and data protection that constituted motivating factors for using the online community. Abstract: Digital technology (DT) is creating and shaping today's world. Building on its identity and history of technology research, the Information Systems discipline is at the forefront of understanding the nature of DT and related phenomena. Understanding the nature of DT requires understanding its purposes. Because of the growing number of DTs, these purposes are diversifying, and further examination is needed. To that end, we followed an organizational systematics paradigm and present a taxonomic theory for DT that enables its classification through its diverse purposes. The taxonomic theory comprises a multi-layer taxonomy of DT and purpose-related archetypes, which we inferred from a sample of 92 real-world DTs. In our empirical evaluation, we assessed the reliability, validity, and usefulness of the taxonomy and archetypes. The taxonomic theory exceeds existing technology classifications by being the first that (1) has been rigorously developed, (2) considers the nature of DT, (3) is sufficiently concrete to reflect the diverse purposes of DT, and (4) is sufficiently abstract to be persistent. Our findings add to the descriptive knowledge on DT, advance our understanding of the diverse purposes of DT, and lay the ground for further theorizing. Our work also supports practitioners in managing and designing DTs. Collapse

Abstract: This paper provides a typology of digital work – a popular term still lacking a clear meaning. We show how previous attempts to capture the essence of digital work struggle to provide a meaningful yet comprehensive understanding of what differentiates traditional from digital work. We draw on prior literature to argue that digital work requires three rationales to be fulfilled: process (How?), outcome (What?), and objective (Why?). Based on this, we highlight three variations – digital enabled work, digital engaged work, and digital embedded work. This typology allows us to define digital work more clearly and enables future research to adequately study and theorize digital work. Furthermore, this typology permits considering alternate classifications for activities and actors in work that traditional work conceptualizations fail to include. Collapse

Abstract: Besides increasing transparency and demonstrating awareness of the author, self-reported limitations enable other researchers to effectively learn from, build on, validate, and extend the original work. However, this topic is understudied in information systems design science research (IS DSR). The study has assessed 243 IS DSR papers published in the period 2013–2022 and built a typology of the 19 most relevant limitations, organized into four categories: (1) Input Knowledge and Technology, (2) Research Process, (3) Resulting Artifact, and (4) Design Knowledge. Further, the contribution suggests actions to mitigate each type of limitation throughout the entire IS DSR project lifecycle. The authors have also created guidelines to report the limitations in a useful way for knowledge accumulation. The proposed typology and guidelines enable reviewers and editors to better frame self-reported limitations, assess rigor and relevance more systematically, and provide more precise feedback. Moreover, the contribution may help design researchers identify, mitigate, and effectively communicate the uncertainties inherent to all scientific advances. Collapse
