Abstract: As the use phase of buildings produces a substantial negative environmental impact, mechanisms to guide individuals towards more sustainable energy consumption are of interest. Smart energy apps which constantly monitor energy consumption and provide energy reduction recommendations to private households are a promising tool to tackle this issue. However, as little is known about factors driving their adoption, it remains unclear whether their potential can be leveraged. Against this backdrop, this study derives a technology acceptance model for smart energy apps which builds on a quantitative survey with 300 participants and the partial least squares approach. The results highlight personal innovativeness and environmental norms as additional acceptance factors. Our study points at the importance integrating both individual and technological aspects in technology adoption research, unveils potential levers for IS to drive adoption, and provides guidance to smart energy app designers. Abstract: Standardization is gaining importance for digital platform eco-systems as they try to balance both stability and flexibility of their core as well as their boundary resources. Our knowledge on which factors influence standardization processes in business-to-business (B2B) focused digital platform eco-systems remains limited. Using three B2B platform eco-systems from the cargo transportation and seaport eco-system context, we apply a multiple case study to investigate which factors affect the standardization mode and the standard adoption. Based on 19 interviews and a systematic coding procedure, we identified 24 factors and cluster them into four overarching themes. We show the relatedness between standardization and innovation research, identify standard characteristics as the most important theme of factors and show that standardization has to be seen as a dynamic and interconnected process, as some factors are interdependent but the controllability varies between factors. Lastly, implications of these results and future research directions are discussed. Collapse

Abstract: Based on 172 articles, this article contributes to the research of technostress by providing a descriptive literature review using a systematic methodology from 1984 until 2018. Following a review protocol, each article collected was classified through publications types, research methods and topics associated: research method, year of publication, journal, sample country, conceptual framework, key variables, type of technologies. The results of this literature review revealed that the research on technostress is rising and future research should be conducted following multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, using mixed method and focusing on specific technology. Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) offers promising tools to support the job-seeking process by providing automatic and user-centered job recommendations. However, job seekers often hesitate to trust AI-based recommendations in this context given the far-reaching consequences of the importance of the decision for a job on their future career and life. This hesitation is largely driven by a lack of explainability, as underlying algorithms are complex and not clear to the user. Prior research suggests that anthropomorphization (i.e., the attribution of human traits) can increase the acceptance of technology. Therefore, we adapted this concept for AI-based recommender systems and conducted a survey-based study with 120 participants. We find that that using an anthropomorphic design in a recommender system for open positions increases job seekers' acceptance of the underlying system. However, algorithm aversion rises if detailed information on the algorithmic origin is being disclosed. Collapse

Abstract: Robotics application has provided a fruitful combination for hybrid industry 4.0 teams wherein robotic systems are progressing their way into spaces shared with human workers. The advent of artificial intelligence has also instilled the feeling of distress and ambiguity among employees regarding their future. Such confusion has triggered a plethora of deliberations surrounding the possible receptivity and hostility towards these modern technologies in the digital era where people are articulating their opinions and experiences through social media communication. This study explores the antecedents of employees’ intention to accept robotics at workplace using two-step analyses: Twitter Analysis and Survey-based analysis. Around 121,750 tweets from 43,000 Twitter handles were evaluated in the form of descriptive analysis, geospatial analysis, network analysis and sentiment analysis. Thereafter, the conceptual model has been formulated and validated based on the extracted themes (anthropomorphism, technophobia and behavioral intention to accept robotics at workplace) by in­ cluding 864 responses from an online survey conducted in India. The findings corroborated that anthro­ pomorphism and technophobia significantly influence behavioral intention, and technophobia acts as a sig­ nificant competitive mediator. Collapse

Abstract: Wearables paired with data analytics and machine learning algorithms that measure physiological (and other) parameters are slowly finding their way into our workplace. Several studies have reported positive effects from using such “physiolytics” devices and purported the notion that it may lead to significant workplace safety improvements or to increased awareness among employees concerning unhealthy work practices and other job-related health and well-being issues. At the same time, physiolytics may cause an overdependency on technology and create new constraints on privacy, individuality, and personal freedom. While it is easy to understand why organizations are implementing physiolytics, it remains unclear what employees think about using wearables at their workplace. Using an affordance theory lens, we, therefore, explore the mental models of employees who are faced with the introduction of physiolytics as part of corporate wellness or security programs. We identify five distinct user types each of which characterizes a specific viewpoint on physiolytics at the workplace: the freedom loving, the individualist, the cynical, the tech independent, and the balancer. Our findings allow for better understanding the wider implications and possible user responses to the introduction of wearable technologies in occupational settings and address the need for opening up the “user black box” in IS use research. Abstract: As consumers’ demand for interconnectivity and infotainment grows continuously, car manufacturers face the challenge of developing more sophisticated, user appealing and economically viable in-vehicle infotainment assistants while staying within the boundaries of their limited resources. Based on the results extracted from an empirical study with 278 participants from Germany, this contribution supports car manufacturers to tackle this challenge by providing concrete guidance on optimal feature design, pricing, as well as initial market segmentation. Regarding the optimal feature design, we note that delivering continuously available and flawless systems with a speech input interface should be the top priority when developing such vehicular assistance. Further, we suggest that the in-vehicle infotainment assistants should be either reactive (i.e., react only to driver’s instruction) or independently proactive (i.e., exert full control without engaging the driver in decisions), but not semi-automatic (i.e., assistant issues recommendations and then follows the driver’s instructions). Abstract: The study of individual, affect-related consequences from technology adoption and use is gaining traction in the information systems discipline. Efforts to explore affective reactions to technology have considered positive, affective constructs (e.g., enjoyment, playfulness, and flow), with a more recent focus on the dark side of technology use and constructs such as technostress, technophobia, and computer anxiety. While some research has examined these negative affective responses to technology, construct definitions and relationships are not well-defined or theoretically grounded. In this research, an integrative literature review is conducted on computer anxiety, technophobia and technostress, and the known antecedents, dimensions, and outcomes of each concept are organised into nomological networks. These nomological networks are then combined to identify inconsistencies and omissions in the literature. The Affective Response Model, a recently advanced, theoretically grounded taxonomy of affective responses to technology, is applied to differentiate the three constructs and to introduce technology-induced state anxiety (TISA), a new temporal (state-like) negative response to a specific instance of technology. Two empirical studies are conducted using existing and newly developed scales, and demonstrate that computer anxiety, technophobia, technostress and TISA are conceptually and empirically distinct and provide insight into how these constructs are related. Future research opportunities on affective responses to technology are described based on the integrated nomological network and empirical findings. Collapse

Abstract: Given the prominence and ubiquity of information technologies in the lives of individuals world over, there have been several calls for more research into the post-adoption realities of technology use. In response to these calls, research on negative responses to technology use, ‘dark side’ research, is gaining momentum as evidenced by conference mini-tracks (e.g. AMCIS 2014, 2016, ICIS 2015) and journal special issues calling for research on ‘dark side’ concepts (e.g., Tarafdar, Gupta, & Turel, 2013). At the same time, senior information systems (IS) scholars have called for adopting a “positive lens” in IS research, and the recent Bright ICT Initiative has the goal of promoting greater responsibility and ethics with technology that can prevent undesirable online activities (Lee, 2015). While the research stream on negative responses to technology is strengthening and a stream on positive responses is starting, there has been little research that has considered both positive and negative concepts simultaneously. Abstract: A significant amount of work has been done to better understand the barriers to knowledge flow and develop models of KM maturity; this was intended to help in assessing the progress of KM initiatives in the firm. However, to date there has been no comprehensive research that considers both these issues at the same time, and thus it is still necessary to explore the evolution of barriers to knowledge flow when the level of KM maturity is changing. We reviewed the progress of KM initiatives in recent years, categorized the barriers to knowledge flow according to the cultural historical activity theory (CHAT), and used one of the existing models of KM maturity (the Knowledge Navigator Model—KNM), to address gaps in the current literature. As part of our exploratory study, a longitudinal survey, involving constant observation, development and use of questionnaires and qualitative interviews with managers of seven firms were conducted. We selected the firms so they covered a wide range of KM maturity levels; triangulation was adopted to enhance the quality of the process. The major findings indicated that: (1) barriers to knowledge flow were inherently different at different KM maturity levels; and (2) various changes in the barriers to knowledge flow were associated with the maturity of the KM.
