ICT-Based Country-Level Determinants of Social Media Diffusion

Abstract: There is a broad consensus that social media platforms have become critical tools for policymakers in achieving various policy objectives in a country. Therefore, an in-depth understanding of the ICT-based country-level determinants of social media diffusion has become necessary. To this end, we propose a government-people-technology (GTP) framework for categorizing the ICT-based country-level determinants of social media diffusion into three dimensions. Using this framework and utilizing archival data from 107 countries, we examine the roles of ICT in the government's vision, ICT law maturity, Internet bandwidth, ICT cost, ICT skill, and capacity to own ICT in influencing social media diffusion. A quantile panel data regression results reveal that ICT in the government's vision, ICT law maturity, Internet bandwidth, and capacity to own ICT were positively associated with social media diffusion. In contrast, ICT cost was negatively associated with it. Thus, by offering a new framework, we contribute to the technology diffusion literature by emphasizing the role of government, people, and supportive technologies in driving social media diffusion at the country level. Abstract: The business analytics and strategic management literatures suggest that organizations should seek to exploit data as a key mechanism for competitive advantage. However, the rules of engagement are evolving, the regulatory landscape is becoming increasingly complex, and ex amples of poor outcomes are increasingly common. The board – in its role of setting and moni toring risk appetite – needs to be able to govern the risk/reward trade-off of the data asset. Contemporary data governance approaches are inadequate: they are overly rigid and risk ori ented, limited in scope to an organization’s self-interest rather than considering the broad set of stakeholders, and do not provide a platform for the board to manage this critical risk. This paper uses a unique set of informants – 41 board directors – to demonstrate that differences in board perspectives influence how organizations explore the secondary use of data. Furthermore, this paper identifies a set of relevant individual, organizational and environmental factors and pre sents empirically based configurations of these factors that lead organizations to consider (or neglect) the secondary use of data as a critical enabler of competitive advantage. Abstract: Literature suggests various perspectives of the role of blockchain technology (BCT) in organizations, such as, techno-centric, humancentric, and technology institutionalization. This paper aims to look the adoption of blockchain, through the lens of institutionalization perspective based on the Institutional Theory. The literature argues that institutional theory pressures are only sufficient for innovation if it is seen as a solution where imitation can be followed. However, if there is no consensus on innovation adoption, it becomes difficult to understand the organizational economic and technical needs. Therefore, it is important to understand institutionalization of novel technologies like blockchain, which have yet to have enough examples to follow. The study proposes a framework based on data gathered via semi-structured interviews of blockchain experts using the Delphi method. The framework extends the institutional theory by introducing a technological pressure along with its three conventional pressures. Collapse

Abstract: In a constantly evolving digital sphere, surmounting organizational boundaries and sharing data offers the opportunity to realize a multitude of mutual benefits, such as advanced analytics and innovative services. Organizations aspire to share data. However, they struggle to identify and establish beneficial conditions for data sharing, and research still offers little support to exploit the potential of data sharing. We apply an exploratory research approach to develop a framework of beneficial conditions for data sharing. By combining ten expert interviews and a systematic literature review, we aggregate 23 characteristics that constitute beneficial conditions into eight categories and apply and validate the framework in a real-world case. Thus, we contribute to research by providing a fundamental understanding of beneficial conditions for data sharing and a compact target picture. Additionally, we enable practitioners to systematically assess an organization's current condition to set the course toward exploiting the full potential of data sharing. Collapse

Abstract: As organizations have become increasingly reliant on information systems, senior managers are keen in assessing the progress of implemented information security strategies. Although the balanced scorecard approach has been suggested for security governance, a critical issue affecting information security practitioners is complexity, as there are many standards and frameworks, with duplication and overlaps to adhere to when organizing the data. Consequently, the article attempts to develop a more inclusive framework for information security governance, a research gap recently identified in the literature. The article maps five governance and control frameworks (COBIT, SABSA, ISG, ITIL, and ISO 27000) to the information security balanced scorecard (InfoSec BSC) to develop a conceptual design of an effective information security performance measurement tool that can be used by senior managers. Using a real-life case application and interviews with a panel of experts, the article identifies IS initiatives, performance measures for each of the mapped objectives derived from governance and control frameworks that may provide guidance for practitioners. Abstract: The metaverse is intended to reflect almost all activities of everyday and professional life in creating a new experience of social interaction by merging the virtual and real world in an interactive environment. It has the potential to disrupt the way we interact, socialize and work and thus organizations pursue possible application areas. However, there is a lack of research on the organizational readiness factors to ensure a successful initiation. To address this, we conducted 17 expert interviews from different industries. Drawing on the TOE framework, we identified 14 factors and respective propositions for the organizational context. Thereby well-known factors such as top management support were adapted to the requirements of the metaverse, but also new metaverse-specific factors emerged such as standards and interoperability. Although such assistance systems would also be beneficial for manufacturing (for example, because workers have their hands free), speech assistants have not yet been widely used in the industrial environment. Against this background, we develop in this article a model with factors that influence the decision of industrial firms whether to adopt speech assistance for manufacturing. In order to do so, we rely on the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework and by interviewing 10 experts from firms that develop or use speech assistance solutions. Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is viewed as having great potential for the public sector to improve the management of internal activities and the delivery of public services. However, realizing its potential depends on the proper implementation of the technology, which is characterized by unique factors, that afford or constrain its use. What these factors are and how they affect AI implementation is still poorly understood, and scholars call for studies to add empirical evidence to the existing knowledge. This study relies on a case study methodology and, by adopting an abductive approach, applies a double theoretical perspective: the Technology-OrganizationEnvironment (TOE) framework and the Technology Affordances and Constraints Theory (TACT). Drawing on these combined lenses, we develop a conceptual framework that extends previous studies by showing how AI implementation is the result of a combination of contextual factors that are deeply interrelated and, specifically, how AI-related factors bring new affordances and constraints to the application domain. Abstract: Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) has recently gained a lot of attention, especially in the last few years. Scholars have conducted systematic literature reviews to gain more knowledge about responsible AI. However, no study has collected and evaluated the most significant barriers to responsible AI. We filled this gap in the literature by identifying eleven barriers and categorized them, using the Technology-Organization-Environment framework, into three categories. We collected data from seven experts and used the analytical hierarchy process to evaluate the importance of the barriers. The results indicated that technology, as a category, is the most important. The findings also recommended that data quality is the most vital among all eleven barriers. We offered eleven propositions as a theoretical contribution for future researchers in terms of conceptual development. We discussed the implications of the findings for research and practice.
