Abstract: Prior research on the management of IT offshore outsourcing projects has focused on crosscultural issues or on project and relationship management issues. However, there is still a lack of understanding concerning effective management practices that help to overcome the challenges of client-vendor cultural distance in IT offshoring relationships. Therefore, the goal of this research is to increase our understanding of how the risks that result from this cultural distance in IT offshoring can be mitigated and which management practices must be employed. Thereby, we take both cross-cultural and project management issues into account and focus on the specific interplay between both elements. As research on this topic is scarce, we chose a theory-building and exploratory research design. We conducted an in-depth analysis of a single case from the financial services industry in Germany. Our findings suggest that cultural intelligence and IT project management techniques interact with each other in a reinforcing virtuous circle. Collapse

Abstract: The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), like groupware systems, intranet or videoconference, enable team members to work on the same project but from different places. Some teams are called virtual because they exist only through the network. As the work is geographically distributed, bonds and relationships between people become more important. Indeed, the lack of faceto-face communication and common settings can alter the relationships between people and, as a result alter their cohesiveness and performance. The scope of this article is to propose a model that could investigate the presence of emotions and assess their role in distributed teams’ performance. We combine a model of cohesiveness with the Emotional Intelligence Theory to create our framework. We also study the emotions expressed by individuals and the possible communication of these emotions within their team. Eight hypotheses, which have not yet been tested empirically, are presented. Abstract: The paper discusses bounded and unbounded rationality in purposeful complex adaptive systems (PCAS) modeled by the Evolutionary Systems Design (ESD) framework. Due to Herbert Simon, bounded rationality is the rationality of cognition. Unbounded rationality is the generalized rationality of connectedness represented mathematically, of spirituality, and of right decision/negotiation. Operational procedures for defining/solving and validating a problem in group decision and negotiation under unbounded rationality are discussed. With human PCAS as a focus, the paper more generally considers rationality in multiagent systems with natural and/or artificial agents. Collapse

Abstract: Recent advances in artificial intelligence, particularly in the field of multi-agent theory, offer great promises in modeling strategic planning processes. In this domain, the ability to introduce distinct cognitive agents which cooperate to solve the problem enables the processing of more complex and ill-structured problems. This paper presents a general framework for building a distributed strategic decision support system (DSDSS) which integrates both advances in distributed decision making and distributed artificial intelligence. It goes on to describe a cooperative and distributed system with two specific features: the users intervene as human agents in the solution formation, and strategic knowledge and domain knowledge are distributed in different agents which communicate through various blackboards and message passing. An example is provided in the field of strategic marketing which illustrates how the system operates. Collapse
