Abstract: While research on the consequences of organizational commitment to IT has focused on outcomes of interest to shareholders, such as profitability and firm value, recent research has also considered other stakeholders that might benefit from an increased organizational commitment to IT, especially customers. We extend this line of the literature by investigating the benefits of a firm’s organizational commitment to IT for firms’ employees, a stakeholder group that uses and depends heavily on IT in its daily work. This exploratory study links a firm’s organizational commitment to IT with the nonmonetary employee metrics of job satisfaction and work-life balance and embeds these associations in the industry’s dynamism and concentration. We test our research model with a multi-industry dataset of 523 firms from the S&P 500 (2008-2017 period). Our findings indicate that an organizational commitment to IT may facilitate job satisfaction and work-life balance but only when industry dynamism and industry concentration are low. Additional analyses show that IT commitment’s influence on these outcomes depends on the firm’s commitment to particular IT technologies; for instance, organizational commitments to cloud technology and remote technology are particularly positively associated with work-life balance. Abstract: Agile can be seen as an accelerator to develop software, yet it suffers from bottlenecks between development and operations. DevOps can overcome bottlenecks between agile development teams and operations, notably by providing continuous integration, delivery and deployment, thus improving end-to-end processes between development and operations functions. However, literature on DevOps effects is scant. Using job design characteristics theory and Herzberg’s job satisfaction theory, this paper investigates perceptions of job (dis)satisfaction, risks and work conditions among 59 employees working within 12 agile and DevOps teams in the same firm. Findings show that DevOps provides greater job satisfaction than agile alone. However, this case study also unveiled an effect of risk amplification with DevOps, and the greater need to orchestrate automation and sharing, contingent on work conditions. We theorise that orchestration of interactions between automation and sharing and related risks must be managed to improve job satisfaction when agile teams transition to DevOps. Collapse

Abstract: Emergency Department (ED) congestion has been an issue in the performance of any hospital system (Shen and Wang, 2015). There are many past and ongoing researches on ways to rectify this issue. Some research outline solutions such as ambulance diversion, increasing hospital capacity in terms of both hospital beds and human resource (Alleon, Deo & Lin, 2013). However, these solutions are not always viable and tend to increase the operating cost. Therefore, this research focus on an alternative solution which is streamlining patient flow from ED to inpatient ward. Based on information processing theory, this research analyzes that early information access enables hospital staff to make a knowledgeable and timely decision to move ED patients to inpatient wards. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is suggested as a tool to help access the early information in this patient flow model. In the current scenario, RFID is activated once the patients reaches the ED triage, however this paper suggests that if RFID is enabled as soon as the patients are picked up by ambulance, then the early information gained by the ED triage in this process will help to not only alleviate information uncertainty (IU) but also increase information coordination (IC) amongst the multiple care providers working together in the ED. Hence, resulting in a more efficient patient flow between ED and inpatient ward and therefore, reducing in ED congestion. Furthermore, based on job satisfaction model, this research suggests that the early information access provided by RFID use will increase job satisfaction (JS)n of the triage nurses in ED, resulting in better work condition and superior work performance in the ED triage system. This in turn aids in better patient flow from ED to inpatient ward, therefore reducing ED congestion. These effects are shown below in the model 1. Collapse

Abstract: The use of group support systems (GSS) to improve the outcomes of, and satisfaction with, meetings is increasing. Our empirical study, drawing on the theory of job design, was initiated to investigate the relative contribution of both individual and group characteristics on GSS participants’ satisfaction with the process. Our field study found that when employees used a GSS to brainstorm on an issue of concern, two individual characteristics (locus of control and personal innovativeness) and one group characteristic (group cohesion) had significant impact on user satisfaction with the meeting process. Locus of control, however, was found to have an impact in the opposite direction to our assumptions. Computer anxiety, an individual characteristic, was not found to be significant. Collapse

Abstract: This is an empirical investigation about how non-pecuniary factors affect job satisfaction of IT professionals particularly working in data warehousing and business intelligence areas. We use Multi-level order logistic regression to test how job design and user background affect the job satisfaction of IT professionals by controlling non-pecuniary as well as pecuniary factors. There are a couple of interesting findings: Not only are IT professionals now more satisfied if their job opportunities are more aligned with their career expectation, they are also more satisfied if their jobs are more aligned with company strategy and if their jobs give them recommending and decision power. These findings have led us to conclude that there is an increasing trend of IT professionals who are pursuing IT careers that involve managerial duties and strategic decision making positions. We also conclude that the well defined and predictable procedural job duties are no longer sufficient to motivate modern IT professionals. Collapse
