Abstract: The quest to open black box artificial intelligence (AI) systems evolved into an emerging phenomenon of global interest for academia, business, and society and brought about the rise of the research field of explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). With its pluralistic view, information systems (IS) research is predestined to contribute to this emerging field; thus, it is not surprising that the number of publications on XAI has been rising significantly in IS research. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of XAI research in IS in general and electronic markets in particular using a structured literature review. Based on a literature search resulting in 180 research papers, this work provides an overview of the most receptive outlets, the development of the academic discussion, and the most relevant underlying concepts and methodologies. Furthermore, eight research areas with varying maturity in electronic markets are carved out. Finally, directions for a research agenda of XAI in IS are presented. Collapse

Abstract: The use of mobile payment (m-payment) is growing exponentially in developing countries. A small number of investigations have been undertaken on what makes people continue to use m-payment in an African context. We combine the task technology fit (TTF) model, expectation-confirmation model (ECM), and trust dimension to explain the influence of continuance use of m-payment. We collected 384 valid questionnaire responses from Mozambique. The results show that the relevant constructs to explain continuance intention are use, individual performance, overall trust, and the moderation role of satisfaction. Collapse

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate patient motivation for adopting telemedicine services. A theoretical research model is utilized based on the Extended Valence Framework (EVF), which includes perceived trust, perceived risk, perceived benefit, and the intent to use telemedicine services. Additionally, three antecedents of trust and risk are included --perceived privacy, perceived security, and familiarity. Partial least squares (PLS) is used to test the research model. The results indicate a clear pathway to intent through perceived trust and perceived benefit. In addition, the antecedents perceived security and familiarity have significant relationships with perceived trust, but not with perceived risk. Perceived privacy has no significance. Overall, this research suggests that to increase telemedicine services usage, we should focus on security, familiarity, trust, and benefit. Collapse

Abstract: Intelligent process automation is a technological innovation that combines symbolic automation tools with machine learning. Intelligent process automation can automate complex tasks that otherwise have to be performed by humans when symbolic automation is not powerful enough. Regardless of the high economic potential for companies, the adoption rate in practice is comparatively low. This could be due to the adoption behavior of the employees. In our work, we iteratively develop a Unified Theory of Acceptance and use of Technology (UTAUT) model for the adoption of intelligent process automation and evaluate it with an empirical study. With our research we want to empower designers to adapt the corresponding tools in the future to increase adoption. The study shows that, in addition to established factors for technology adoption, trust, transparency, and attitude towards technology are primary decision factors. Collapse

Abstract: In this study, we developed and tested a theoretical model to understand online music piracy behavior via email and instant messaging. We developed this theoretical model by drawing on a comprehensive literature review on music piracy, theory of reasoned action, social identity, and the deterrence theory. We collected primary data to test the hypotheses, and the results from the partial least squares analyses suggest attitude toward music file-sharing behavior and social identity positively affect intention to pirate music, whereas the perceived severity and certainty of punishment do not have significant effects on the attitude. The findings highlight the important role of social identity when a theoretical model with the concept explains music file-sharing behavior without monetary benefits in return. Collapse

Abstract: The importance of sustainability seems to be ingrained in most consumers' minds by now, yet this is not always reflected in consumers' consumption behavior. We suggest nudging as an instrument to close the gap between green consciousness and purchase decision in an environment influenced by technostress. The results, based on an experimental study with 201 participants, show that information nudging in ecommerce is a useful tool to close this gap, but that the effect is significantly weakened with increasing levels of technostress, especially in combination with an already existing high green purchase intention, suggesting cognitive strain, e.g. due to information overload. Our study contributes to the e-commerce and consumer psychology literature and extends the research by showing how digital information nudging in combination with perceived technostress in online shopping situations influence consumers' purchase decisions with respect to sustainable products. Abstract: Owing to increasing adoption rates of voice assistants (VAs), integrating voice commerce (VC) as a new consumer channel is among the top objectives of businesses' current voice initiatives. VC offers consumers a new way of shopping by using VAs, which comes with benefits but also entails risks that extant literature only partially examines. Therefore, this research seeks to understand consumers' perceived benefits and risks when using VC by means of a mixed-methods design. In the first study, we conducted 30 semi-structured interviews with VA users to develop a research model of VC risks and benefits. The second study empirically validated the research model using survey data from 176 participants. According to our results, consumers perceive VC as convenient and enjoyable but also perceive risks regarding the VA's reliability, opacity, and controllability. Thus, we shed light on the determinants of channel choice in e-commerce and provide guidelines for designing VC applications. Collapse

Abstract: Grounded in configuration and complexity theory, qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) combines the ad vantages of case-based and variable-oriented methods for rendering complex information systems (IS) phe nomena comprehensible. Given its manifold benefits, the QCA method has attracted considerable attention in IS research, with an increasing number of studies employing it as their methodological approach. Based on a comprehensive review and synthesis of recent QCA practices from the IS field, covering 12 years of research, we outline the most prevalent research gaps and limitations concerning QCA’s methodological application prior to identifying issues for further improvement as well as highlighting future research directions. Abstract: E-commerce platforms allow customers to post online reviews about their products, but many of these reviews remain non-voted by existing customers. Current literature on the perceived helpfulness of online reviews has overlooked the effect of these non-voted reviews. Additionally, current studies lack the cross-cultural perspective to help analyze the influence of cultural factors during an analysis of online reviews in an e-commerce platform. This study proposes a novel cross-cultural framework using online consumer reviews from a global e-commerce retailer to investigate these shortcomings. Our study has twofold contributions: firstly, we identified the significant predictors (such as review-title, review sentiments, star rating, social context, and temporal features) of the count of helpful votes received by online reviews – both voted and non-voted. Secondly, we identified a strong moderating effect of national culture on these predictors during the perception and evaluation of global consumers’ reviews. We also performed a quantile regression across the entire distribution of the count of helpful votes. Findings from our study will guide reviewers who publish helpful and comprehensive reviews. Additionally, customers and sellers from global e-commerce firms will learn to account for cross-cultural differences on the provided features to prevent the distortion of the information content of online reviews. Abstract: The purpose of this research is to assess the impact of trust, when balanced with risk and benefit, on consumer intention to adopt mobile payment systems. A research model is created to assess intent based on perceived trust, along with three antecedents – privacy, security, and familiarity – and packaged with an extended valence framework that takes into account the opposing notions of perceived risk and perceived benefit. Following a pilot study of 76 participants, data is collected from a survey of 234 respondents and is analyzed using consistent Partial Least Squares (PLSc). Results indicate that perceived benefit and perceived trust are the most important influences on the intention to use mobile payment systems, and that the perceived risk of using mobile payment systems has little or no impact on intention to use. The risk result is explained by motivational avoidance theory and institutional dependence. Collapse
