Abstract: The power of emoji and emoticon has been investigating for many years in social media. However, the existing literature mostly overlook the importance of emoticon and text simultaneously. This research proposed a model that take into consideration the sentiment of emoticon and text on Facebook and estimated the number for demonstrating the power on social media. Abstract: Crowdsourcing represents a powerful approach that seeks to harness the collective knowledge or creativity of a large and independent network of people for organizations. While the approach drastically facilitates the sourcing and aggregating of information, it represents a latent challenge for organizations to process and evaluate the vast amount of crowdsourced contributions – especially when they are submitted in an unstructured, textual format. In this study, we present an on-going design science research project that is concerned with the construction of a design theory for semi-automated information processing and decision support in crowdsourcing. The proposed concept leverages the power of crowdsourcing in combination with text mining and machine learning algorithms to mak e the evaluation of textual contributions more efficient and effective for decision-makers. Our work aims to provide the theoretical foundation for designing such systems in crowdsourcing. It is intended to contribute to decision support and business analytics research by outlining the capabilities of text mining and machine learning techniques in contexts that face large amounts of user-generated content. For practitioners, we provide a set of generalized design principles and design features for the implementation of these algorithms on crowdsourcing platforms. Collapse

Abstract: The paper argues that semiotics, the theory of signs and symbols, is at the heart of the representation and transmission of information and meaning, and is thus central to communication and information systems, but especially in their contemporary, more virtualized forms. The paper is distinctive in eschewing post-structuralist uses of Saussurian semiotics, and recent theorizations of sociomateriality, instead developing an integrative framework grounded in Habermasian concepts, Peirceian semiotics and an underlying, integrating critical realist philosophy. We develop a semiotic framework to help analyze the complex interactions between three different worlds – the personal, the social and the material. Here semiosis relates to the personal world through the generation and interpretation of signs and messages. It relates to the material world in that all signs must have some form of physical embodiment in order to be signs, and must also be transmitted through some form of physical media. Semiosis relates to the social world in that the connotive aspects of sign systems are social rather than individual – they exist before and beyond the individual's use of signs. The personal, social and material worlds between them bear relationships of sociation, sociomateriality and embodiment. The framework draws on fundamental concepts of information, meaning and embodied cognition. The paper examines critically the implications of this formulation for studying information systems. It discusses commonalities with and departures from other studies, illustrates points with empirical examples, and details how the integrative framework can be utilized. Collapse

Abstract: Quality is one of the main topics in current conceptual modelling research, as is the field of business process modelling. Yet, widely acknowledged academic contributions towards an understanding or measurement of business process model quality are limited at best. In this paper I argue that the development of methodical theories concerning the problem of process model quality must be preceded by methodological elaborations on business process modelling. I further argue that existing epistemological foundations of process modelling are insufficient for describing the extrinsic and intrinsic traits of model quality. Taking into account the inherent social and purpose-oriented character of process modelling in contemporary organizations I present a socio-pragmatic constructionist methodology of business process modelling and sketch out implications of this perspective towards an understanding of process model quality. I anticipate that, based on this research, theories can be developed that facilitate the evaluation of the ’goodness’ of a business process model. Collapse

Abstract: In this paper we present a comprehensive framework for measuring similarity within and between ontologies as a basis for the interoperability across various application fields. In order to define such a framework, we base our work on an abstract ontology model that allows adhering to various existing and evolving ontology standards. The main characteristic of the framework is its layered structure: We have defined three levels on which the similarity between two entities (concepts or instances) can be measured: data layer, ontology layer, and context layer, that cope with the data representation, ontological meaning and the usage of these entities, respectively. In addition, in each of the layers corresponding background information is used in order to define the similarity more precisely. The framework is complete in the sense of covering the similarity between all elements defined in the abstract ontology model by comprising similarity measures for all above-named layers as well as relations between them. Moreover, we have validated our framework with several practical case studies in order to prove benefits of applying our approach compared to traditional similarity measures. One of these case studies is described in detail within the paper. Collapse
