Abstract: Email is the communication application most widely used in organizations. Yet, email is associated with a number of negative aspects, most prominently 'email overload' - a phenomenon that is theoretically interesting but vexing in practice because it has proved intractable to manage. We problematize the current understanding of email overload as being due to lack of understanding of its technology fit-related antecedents and job-related outcomes, and then investigate how email overload is influenced by a lack of fit between the communication applications that the organization provides to individuals and those that (1) they want, and that (2) are suitable for their tasks. We hypothesize that such lack of fit leads to email by default, defined as the perception of email being used improperly, when other communication applications would be better suited. Email by default is then hypothesized to lead to email overload. We further investigate job-related outcomes of email overload. The hypothesized relationships are supported by our findings, based on data from a two-stage, multi-method empirical study in a large manufacturing organization. The paper theoretically broadens the scholarly discourse on email overload to include novel antecedents and outcomes in the ongoing quest to establish a more complete understanding of this phenomenon. Abstract: Despite the dynamic nature of knowledge-related activities and the availability of a variety of communication technologies, many global teams habitually use technology in the same way across activities. However, as teams move through cycles of accumulating, integrating, and implementing knowledge, the purposes for communication technologies change. Current theorizing and empirical work on team knowledge management has yet to develop a dynamic theory that incorporates these changes. By conducting a multiwave, mixed method analysis of 48 global teams, we develop a theory of how global teams sustain effectiveness through technology affordance processes. We found that effective teams are those that recognize cues indicating change is necessary and coevolve a symbiosis between new activities, new purposes for interaction, and new uses of communication technologies. This coevolution of purpose with technology use forms new affordances, which enable the team to move on to new knowledge management activities and sustain effectiveness. Our theory more realistically models the dynamics of staying connected while sharing, combining, and implementing knowledge across the globe. Collapse

Abstract: The use of high-resolution image sensors and their constant networking via the Internet of Things leads to many new application scenarios for computer vision systems. Examples can be found in agriculture, manufacturing, autonomous driving, healthcare, and many more. However, the question that arises is how the use of such systems impacts the value proposition of organizations. When does the complex and sometimes expensive implementation in business processes make economic sense? These questions were addressed and analyzed with a qualitative approach as part of a mixed research method. Abstract: Today there exists a plethora of mobile apps focused on diabetes self-management. To understand the rate of inclusion and influences of these numerous diabetes mobile apps (DMAS), we crowdsourced and analyzed negative users’ comments and the design features of numerous apps, underpinned by fit viability and grounded theory as the theoretical analysis lens. Thus, by concentrating our efforts on apps written in English collected from google play and apple app store, we identified and classified DMAS as a health monitoring app (HMAS) and information repository apps (IRAS), and statistically determined the effects of different diabetes self-management indicators on their functionalities. Our results affirm that these solutions have limited functionalities to facilitate selfmanagement of diabetes due to poor design which hinders intelligent decision support, as well as limits inclusion and performance of wellness support features. Also, many of these apps are operationally inefficient. Collapse

Abstract: Despite the recent advent and popularity of niche technologies, less is known about the adoption dynamics of such systems. In a quest for understanding and differentiating between mainstream vs. niche technologies, and the way such differences influence individuals’ information systems (IS) behaviors, the study argues that a scale to measure individual’s niche perception in the domain of technology usage is needed. Basing on the main argument of the Optimal Distinctiveness theory, the study introduces a muchneeded conceptualization and operationalization of niche technology perceptions in the literature. Across three studies, we test a typology of perceived niche and develop and validate a 4-item scale to measure individuals’ niche perceptions in IS domain. As a result, academic researchers may now rely on the developed scale to investigate the dynamics of users’ IS behaviors by incorporating the potential effect of the perceptions of niche in their future research studies. Abstract: Serious games have helped users achieve learning outcomes in several disciplines by keeping them motivated to play and learn. However, some researches suggest that serious games were ineffective. Empirical evidence on the effectiveness of serious games is dearth in the literature. One reason is the lack of a solid evaluation framework. Calls have already been made for more theoretical contributions in this area. We respond to this call by studying the effectiveness of serious games from the perspective of tasktechnology model. To our knowledge, there has been no research evaluating serious games using this theory. A convenient student sample was asked to play a web-based game for 30 minutes learning about SQL, followed by a short survey. Results indicate a significant impact from perceived task-technology fit on perceived learning outcomes. This research contributes to both theory and practice and provides plans on how to extend this research for future work. Collapse

Abstract: From a task-technology fit perspective, green SCM and green IS are likely to have synergistic effects on corporate sustainability. Yet, the exact mechanisms through which their perceived alignment by employees may exert influences on organizational performances are unclear. This study captures potential enablement and coverage routes at different development stages of sustainability with fit-as-mediation and fit-as-moderation, respectively. The results based on the observations collected from more than 400 organizations in the USA and China suggest that the perceived fit gradually shifts from a moderator role to a mediator role as the two green endeavors integrate with each other. Abstract: Little is known about Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) impacts in Latin America justice system and few theoretical advances were done on this topic. This paper aims to propose a model grounded in Task-Technology Fit theory and explore its rationality in the justice system of two developing countries: Brazil and Argentina. Interviews with public managers and employees were conducted, and content analysis was applied to examine ICT4D impact on individual performance and public service quality. Our research makes several contributions by proposing a model on how ICT4D intervention can be assessed in an application area like the justice system. We examine the effectiveness of two national ICT4D endeavours, represented by the electronic lawsuit, thus showing how government can lead successful ICT4D implementations in developing countries. The practical value of this research rests on clarifying how ICT4D impacts public employees’ performance and public service quality. The results should help managers reduce gaps between policy and design of electronic lawsuits, thus guiding ICT4D endeavours by practitioners in other developing countries. Collapse

Abstract: Wikis are widely acknowledged to be capable of promoting team collaboration. However, previous studies have not examined how the characteristics of the wiki media influence team members’ perceived collaboration effectiveness in the educational context. Drawing on media synchronicity theory, we examine five wiki capabilities and whether these capabilities are perceived to be effective in facilitating collaboration. Results based on data from 83 undergraduate students in 15 teams show that reprocessability, no other wiki capabilities, plays a dominant role in securing a more favorable evaluation of collaboration effectiveness by students. The findings and their implications on theory and practice are discussed. Collapse
