Abstract: Empowered with artificial intelligence, intelligent agents (IAs) increasingly offer help not only in response to user prompts (i.e., user-invoked help) but also without user prompts (i.e., IA-invoked help). Additionally, IAs are becoming more competent and even surpassing users in performing many computational and repetitive tasks. Drawing on self-affirmation theory, we investigate users' acceptance of IA-versus user-invoked help for identity-defining tasks from IAs with different levels of relative competence. We conducted an experiment with 199 software developers and found that IA-invoked (vs. user-invoked) help increases self-threat and thus reduces users' willingness to accept help from IAs. Moreover, relative competence moderates this effect, in that only IAs having relatively higher (vs. lower or equal) competence cause self-threat. Our study contributes to a better understanding of the self-threatening effects of IA-invoked (vs. user-invoked) help from IAs and the related role of relative competence that crucially shapes effective user-IA collaborations. Abstract: An online social network is a key platform through which innovation diffuses. To learn about innovativeness, we simultaneously investigate two Twitter networks, the relationships network, following-follower relationships, and the activity network, the flow of tweets. Specifically, the innovativeness relations to the networks' indegree and outdegree, the volume of platform use, and the profile's age. The more active and central the user, the earlier the adoption. Innovativeness increases with the number of followers only when at least several of them adopt the innovation. Surprisingly, having more followees is linked to later engagement with the innovation. This association is mediated by the number of adopters' followees. Those who created a Twitter profile later are also more likely to adopt innovations later. This study is novel in distinguishing between the two networks and analyzing their interactions. Its contribution lies in identifying the innovativeness of users in an online social network platform diffusion. Collapse

Abstract: Fairness is an important aspect for individuals and teams. This also applies to human-robot interaction (HRI). Especially if intelligent robots provide services to multiple humans, humans may feel treated unfairly by robots. Most work in this area deals with the aspects of fair algorithms, task allocation, and decision support. This work focuses on a different, yet little-explored perspective, which looks at fairness in HRI from a human-centered perspective in human-robot teams. We present an experiment in which a service robot was responsible for distributing resources among competing team members -in one condition with an efficient (but rather unfair) distribution algorithm and in another condition with an algorithm that was less efficient but could be considered fair. We investigated how the different strategies of distribution influence the perceived fairness and how this perceived fairness influenced the perception of the robot as such. Our study shows that humans might perceive technically efficient algorithms executed by a robot as unfair, especially if humans personally experience negative consequences. Interestingly, this perceived unfairness had a negative impact on human perception of the robot as such, which should be considered in the design of future robots. Collapse

Abstract: Online dating has transformed the way people meet and start relationships. However, online dating platforms typically have many lurkers without active participation. Using a self-regulation framework, this paper aims to study users’ active participation in online dating through a mixed methods study. We first conducted qualitative and quantitative investigations with a machine learning method to explore user active participation and its antecedents. We then developed a theoretical model and conducted a statistical analysis of the model. The empirical findings showed that service quality and trust significantly affected individual active participation in a dating site through attachments to the daters and services. The findings of the study contribute to the extant literature by analyzing user participation in online dating from an attachment perspective. Collapse

Abstract: With the explosive growth of mobile phone users, individuals are getting used to using mobile phones to get various services. Mobile government, as one of important channels to provide official government services, has been paid increasingly attention recently. In order to discover the critical influence factors of individual attitude and behavioral intention, a meta-analysis method was used to construct a comprehensive framework for individual mobile government adoption and find out the moderating role of economic development level, based on 38 related empirical research publications. Abstract: This study addresses two critical research gaps in human-robot interaction (HRI): the limited systematic research on the role of trust in customers’ acceptance of artificially intelligent (AI) robots; and the lack of understanding of robot acceptance under different cultural backgrounds. Drawing on the AIDUA framework, this study examines the impacts of trust and moderating effects of both national (the U.S. and China) and individual culture on customers’ intentions to use AI robots in hospitality services by developing a theoretical model. The model is tested on data collected using online data collection platforms from 491 U.S. and 495 Chinese respondents. PLSSEM and the bootstrapping method were used to test the hypothesized relationships and analyze the moderating effects of culture, respectively. The findings suggest that trust in interaction with AI robots is a significant higherorder construct that influences the intention of use. Furthermore, uncertainty avoidance, long-term orientation, and power distance have been found to exhibit significant moderation effects. The results of this study extend the theoretical frameworks in HRI and provide detailed guidance to promote AI robot applications across different cultures. Collapse

Abstract: In response to online misinformation, source rating services evaluate thousands of popular websites, mark them as reputable or disreputable, and provide detailed information explaining their evaluations. In this paper, we examine the effects of news source evaluations by experts as well as crowd-sourced information (i.e., Wikipedia) on beliefs in political news that appears in Internet search results. Through two online experiments, we inves­ tigate the effects of providing a simple source-evaluation flag or a flag with more detailed supporting information explaining the evaluation. We found that negative flags from expert fact-checkers reduced users' beliefs, and supporting information had no additional effect; in contrast, positive flags required information beyond the simple flag to have maximum effectiveness. Positive and negative crowd-sourced information had similar effects but was weaker than evaluations from experts. Thus, we conclude that providing additional information to support source evaluation flags is important to give users confidence in reputable websites. Collapse

Abstract: Robotic Process Automation (RPA) has emerged as promising automation technology in recent years. Firms seize RPA for fast and cost-efficient low-code process automation implemented and maintained decentrally in the business units by subject matter experts (SMEs) without IT development experience. However, decentralized RPA projects are reported to frequently fail and be prone to challenges as SMEs struggle to meet their new roles and responsibilities, such as developers or testers. Yet, research lacks an understanding of how challenges related to SMEs' roles and responsibilities unfold and how to address these challenges when executing decentralized RPA projects. To this end, our study employs a Design Science Research approach, drawing on literature and 14 expert interviews, to (1) systematically synthesize the challenges related to SMEs' roles and responsibilities and (2) derive a software development framework for supporting SMEs in their new roles and responsibilities in decentralized RPA projects. Thus, our study contributes to RPA and low-code development research and provides SMEs with guidelines to navigate decentralized RPA projects in practice. Collapse

Abstract: The adoption of Information Systems (IS) is among the critical topics for IS research and practice. However, despite rich insights across IS literature streams, many IS implementation projects still struggle with user adoption and realising benefits. This paper argues that a knowledge gap exists because research has paid little attention to the definition, manifestations, and effects of adoption management in mandatory environments. The article proposes definitions and systematically reviews findings related to adoption management at the cross-section of the adoption and benefits management literature. The findings show that adoption management manifests across the two literature streams as constructs, models, and methods. While some articles examine these manifestations in the analysis, many discuss adoption management as an afterthought in the implications for practice in discussion sections, and few articles explicitly label it adoption management. We discuss these and other gaps and provide avenues for future research. Collapse
