Abstract: Social media platforms continue to play a leading role in the evolution of how people share and consume information. Information is no longer limited to updates from a user’s immediate social network but have expanded to an abstract network of feeds from across the global internet. Within the health domain, users rely on social media as a means for researching symptoms of illnesses and the myriad of therapies posted by others with similar implications. Whereas in the past, a single user may have received information from a limited number of local sources, now a user can subscribe to information feeds from around the globe and receive real-time updates on information important to their health. Yet how do users know that the information they are receiving is relevant or not? In this age of fake news and widespread disinformation the global domain of medical knowledge can be tough to navigate. Both legitimate and illegitimate practitioners leverage social media to spread information outside of their immediate network in order to reach, sway, and enlist a larger audience. In this research, we develop a system for determining the relevancy of linked webpages using a combination of web mining through Twitter hashtags and natural language processing (NLP). Collapse

Abstract: In the music market, superstars significantly dominate the market share, while predicting the top hit songs is notoriously difficult. The music intelligence technology, retrieving and utilizing granular acoustic features of songs, provides opportunities to improve the prediction of top hit songs. Using data on 6209 unique songs that appeared in the weekly Billboard Hot 100 charts from 1998 to 2016, especially acoustic features provided by Spotify, we investigate empirically how the top-10-hit-songs likelihood prediction is improved by acoustic fea­ tures. We find that some acoustic features (e.g., danceability, happiness, and some metrics of timbre and pitch) significantly improve the model’s ability to predict the top-10-hit-songs probability. These results suggest that the granular data, provided by the music intelligence technology, carries a substantial predictive value in the era of online music streaming. Collapse

Abstract: The number of publicly offered Web APIs has increased continuously over the last decade (Santos 2017) since successful public Web API initiatives provide a new source of profitability for organizations. Nevertheless, such initiatives are only successful, if the functionality or data offered is actually demanded by third-party developers and the API design meets developers' expectations. However, to the best of the authors' knowledge, there are currently no processes or tools enabling the direct influence of API consumers on the design of public Web APIs. Therefore, we propose a process for collaborative API proposal management using collaboration engineering. Furthermore, we develop and evaluate a prototype supporting this collaborative API proposal management process, which is designed using a design science approach and is evaluated in an action research case study. The evaluation results show, that the presented collaborative API proposal management prototype was perceived as useful and meets usability requirements. Collapse

Abstract: A common goal for designers of educational videogames is to make learning fun. Unfortunately, the result is often a game that tries to combine the fun aspects of videogames with learning elements, but that is neither fun nor effective for learning. In this paper we present our discovery of an alternative approach—a system that combines both education and entertainment, but that separates them into different modules that are loosely-coupled. Entertainment motivates education through a reward mechanism, where performance in the education module yields tokens that can be redeemed for in-game assets in the entertainment module. We present a case study of our specific implementation of this system, and we discuss how it can be generalized to motivate the learning of any topic where performance can be measured. This research contributes to our understanding of designing cognitive artifacts, and to our understanding of designing educational systems as distributed services. Collapse

Abstract: This study examines the effects of social media, from the perspective of consumer engagement behavior (CEB), to investigate how CEB is associated with economic performance. Based on social media activities surrounding US movies, we used ordinary least square (OLS) regression models and found that CEB on Facebook and YouTube positively correlate with box-office gross revenue; however, the same effect was not observed on Twitter. This study proposed and tested a set of metrics for CEB on social media, and also provided empirical support for associating CEB with economic performance. The results underscore the importance of investing in social media communication across multiple channels. Collapse

Abstract: The emergence of Web 2.0 has brought with it a plethora of social networking technologies. Among these, microblogging has emerged as a new and popular tool for short, frequent communication via Web postings. The most popular microblogging service, Twitter, has established a large user base, in spite of numerous criticisms. This study aims to examine why this is the case. In particular, the study develops a model of microblogging use continuance based on theories of continuance, habit and critical mass. The model is then tested by means of a Web survey of Twitter users (n=131) and structural equation modelling using the partial least squares technique. The results suggest that continued use intention is strongly determined by perceived usefulness, satisfaction and habit (R2=0.454) which together provide a strong explanation for Twitter user behaviour. Further, critical mass and frequency of prior behaviour, both influenced by social network size, are strong determinants of the habit construct. The paper rounds off with conclusions and implications for future research and practice in this very new area of inquiry. Collapse
