Abstract: Recruitment is a critical activity for companies, and the research community has also shown significant interest in examining technology recruitment. Companies often communicate how they value their employees along with job requirements to potential candidates in a bid to attract them. However, there is an overall lack of understanding of how candidates react to such information and how their motivation toward the job changes with such online communication. Although there is substantial work that examines the decision-making process of managers who do technical hiring, to the best of our knowledge, there is a paucity of work that investigates the decision-making process of technical candidates. The broad research question studied is how including certain content in online communication about a technical job opportunity may (de)motivate heterogeneous candidates differently in applying for the job. We theorize the underlying process of how including certain content in online job communication may influence candidates’ propensity to apply and their minimum acceptable salary increase if they were to join the company. Additionally, we capture mediating variables that influence the effect of different online content on candidates’ propensity to apply and on candidates’ minimum acceptable salary increase. Abstract: This study extends our understanding of what makes an online review useful by examining the effects of review quality (i.e., as a composite variable of review comprehensiveness and review topic consistency) on review usefulness, and the moderating effects of source credibility on the relationship between review quality and review usefulness. The Elaboration Likelihood Model, convergence theory, and cueing effect literature are used to define the variables of review comprehensiveness and review topic consistency. Analyses of 27,517 restaurant reviews from Yelp show that review topic consistency has a positive effect on review usefulness, but, contrary to our hypothesis, review comprehensiveness has a negative effect on review usefulness. We also found source credibility positively moderates the effect of review comprehensiveness on review usefulness, but negatively moderates the effect of review topic consistency on review usefulness. Abstract: Employees play a vital role in organizational information security posture. Most security breaches involve human elements such as stolen credentials, phishing scams, misuse, or simple errors from employees. As the threat landscape continues to put pressure on this aspect of organizational information security, there is an increasing need to effectively motivate employees towards desirable security attitudes and outcomes. Social influence has been found to help shape employees' information security attitudes. However, there is limited understanding of the roles different motivational processes can play in this context -which may have differential effect of employee attitudes towards security. In this study we use Kelman's social influence theory which proposes that an individual's attitudes are influenced by referent others through three processes -compliance, identification, and internalization. Abstract: In the aftermath of natural disasters, borrowers seeking credit from traditional sources, such as banks, may encounter higher interest rates than in pre-disaster periods. We examine the lending behavior of peer-topeer (P2P) platforms in the wake of disasters. Since P2P platforms involve individual investors in making lending decisions, they accommodate both profit motives and empathetic responses. Empirical evidence from psychology suggests that empathy can lead to prosocial behavior. Consistent with this assertion, we find that loans affected by natural disasters have lower interest rates than comparable loans not issued in the wake of disasters. Our study finds that lenders are involved in a prosocial behavior and are ready to give away some part of their interest income to help the communities in need. Collapse

Abstract: Despite advances in artificial intelligence (AI), ethical principles have been overlooked, harming marginalized communities. These flaws are due to a lack of critical insight into the complex positionality of the researcher, power dynamics between scholars and the communities being studied, and the structural impact on real-world problems when AI systems appear to be accurate but ethically fail. Reflexivity is a process that yields a better understanding of community-specific nuances, areas requiring local expertise, and the potential consequences of scholastic interventions for real-world problems (i.e., social, environmental, or socioeconomic). The paper builds on the five stages of social work reflexivity that can be applied to AI researchers and provided questions that can be asked in order to increase privacy, accountability, and fairness. We discuss the effective implementation of reflexivity in research, detail the stages of social work reflexivity and highlight key questions for AI researchers to ask throughout the research process. Abstract: Intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) have the power to influence lecturers’ practices in the classroom and to improve students’ learning. Many ITS provide standardized analytical methods to evaluate classroom performance or the results of the exercises. But they lack more sophisticated, flexible and individual analyses. This paper presents an e-learning Analytics Tool (EAT) for an ITS that provides a dashboard with key figures and a flexible analytics board (FAB). This enables lecturers to analyze students’ performance in detail and identify misconceptions. For instance, the FAB allows us to classify student solutions, reveal conceptual errors in exercises, and analyze each part of an exercise. By this, common mistakes can be identified, and tailored feedback can be given to the students. Following the design science approach, the platform is designed in a general way so that it can be used for different types of exercises (e.g., Math, Excel, SQL). To assess the artifact, we conducted group interviews with German University lecturers from various courses. The results show that lecturers require a good overview of the submitted student solutions to provide timely feedback. They also appreciate the flexible analytics tool for detailed analyses of student solutions to understand student mistakes better. The employed architecture allows general analyses of exercises and the content of students’ solutions. In addition, the EAT is not bound to a specific kind of exercise, but can cope with different kinds like SQL and Excel. Collapse

Abstract: Virtual Social Networks (VSN) act as a catalyst for the success of the active participation of citizens in information sharing, collaboration, and decision making. VSN based e-participation tools allow many-to-many communication and collaboration near real-time with users who might be in geographically dispersed locations. It provides a platform to voice opinions and perspectives and share them with others in new and innovative ways. Cybersecurity is a key area that needs to be considered for the success and continuous use of e-participation systems as it protects user privacy and helps to avoid scams, harassment, and misinformation. The intervening effect of cybersecurity protection mechanisms and citizens’ education level on the relationship between VSN diffusion and e-participation initiatives is explored in the proposed research model presented in this paper. Moreover, this research model is explored for different stages of e-participation (e-information, e-consultation, and e-decision making) and the five dimensions of cybersecurity (legal, technical, organizational, capacity building, and cooperation). The findings indicate that improved VSN usage has increased e-participation (especially in e-consultation and e-decision making) as a result of improved cybersecurity protection and public education, highlighting the varying importance of different cybersecurity protection measures for three stages of e-participation. Thus, considering the recent problems like platform manipulation, misinformation and data breaches associated with the use of VSN for e-participation, this study emphasizes the importance of regulations, policies, partnerships, technical frameworks, and research to ensure cybersecurity, as well as the importance of education to enable the public to interact productively in e-participation activities. This study is performed using publicly available data from 115 countries and the research model is developed, drawing theoretical basis from the Protection Motivation Theory, Structuration Theory, and Endogenous Growth Theory. Abstract: Climate change and its consequences are among modern societies' most critical challenges. To that end, cities have focused on using information technology in their climate mitigation efforts in smart cities. Considering the magnitude of the problem and its impact on our societies, the need for building climate-resilient smart cities is crucial. In this study, we aim to understand how smart cities can achieve climate resilience. Conducting an exploratory field study and using the urban climate resilience framework as a theoretical lens, we suggest that smart cities can leverage the potential of open data and citizen engagement to reach climate resilience. In particular, our results show that building climateresilient cities requires structural changes in citizen engagement processes and climate considerations. To that end, open data services and tools can be used to improve citizen engagement processes and develop more sustainable smart city solutions. Collapse

Abstract: To create competitive advantages, companies are leaning towards business analytics (BA) to make data-driven decisions. Nevertheless, users acceptance and effective usage of BA is a key element for its success. Around the globe, organizations are increasingly adopting BA, however, a paucity of research on examining the drivers of BA adoption and its continuance is noticeable in the literature. This is evident in developing countries where a higher number of systems and software development projects are outsourced. This is the first study to examine BA continuance in the context of software and systems development projects from the perspective of Pakistani software professionals. The data was collected from 186 Pakistani software professionals working in software and systems development projects. The data were analyzed using partial least squares - structural equation modelling techniques. Our structural model explains 45% variance on BA continuance intention, 69% variance on technological compatibility, and 59% variance on perceived usefulness. Our results show that confirmation has a direct impact on BA continuance intention in software and systems projects. The study has both theoretical and practical implications for professionals in the field of business analytics. Collapse
