Abstract: The significance of means to feed the world population despite its steady increase in number cannot be overstated. Efficient and effective agricultural policies and their implementation along with advances in science and technology have together helped pave the way for supply to meet demand for food around the world. With the importance and constraints that are associated with food supply chains and the potential for security violations, food supply chains need to be secured to avoid unnecessary damage. Security of food supply chains is therefore of paramount importance. Recent advances in IoT and blockchain technology have facilitated security improvements in this general area. We consider food supply chains, with specific emphasis on the logistics aspect, and develop a framework with the incorporation of IoT and blockchain technology. Collapse

Abstract: Increased regulation creates challenging requirements for production environments, changes mindsets, opens IT silos, and forms IT landscapes with greater integration. Many researchers and practitioners hope to meet future product traceability requirements beyond their companies' borders using Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) approaches. However, interdisciplinary teams still face different organizational and technical standardization challenges in supply networks. This paper uses a Design Science Research (DSR) approach to unify contradictory event terminologies in supply chains and creates a modified Unspent Transaction Output (UTXO) token that conceptualizes EPCIS 2.0 standards. The findings show an evaluated input-output traceability system (IOTS) mapping holistic meta-events. We use a simple cross-organizational example and visualization tools that multiple organizations can deploy for efficient backwards and forwards traceability. Abstract: Since the emerging information economy relies heavily on data for advancement and growth, data markets have gained increasing attention. However, while global data economies are evolving and data are increasingly shared among organizations in various data ecosystems, marketplaces for personal data (PDMs) exhibited considerable start-up difficulties, which doomed their majority to either fail quickly or to operate in legal grey zones. Apparently, in recent times, novel PDMs have arisen which seem economically and technically viable. The study investigates this “new generation” from both an economic and a technological perspective. Adhering to a rigorous methodology for taxonomy building and evaluation, 18 dimensions and 59 characteristics are presented alongside which these new PDMs can be designed. Additionally, archetypes are derived. The findings reveal that PDMs tend to follow certain design commonalities holding for data markets generally but comprise specific design elements distinguishing them both from conventional data markets and among each other. Abstract: Blockchain-based systems become increasingly attractive targets for cybercrime due to the rising amount of value transacted in respective systems. However, a comprehensive overview of existing attack vectors and a directive discussion of resulting research opportunities are missing. Employing a structured literature review, we extract and analyze 87 relevant attacks on blockchain-based systems and assign them to common attack vectors. We subsequently derive a research framework and agenda for information systems research on the cybersecurity of blockchain-based systems. We structure our framework along the users, developers, and attackers of both blockchain applications and blockchain infrastructure, highlighting the reciprocal relationships between these entities. Our results show that especially socio-technical aspects of blockchain cybersecurity are underrepre­ sented in research and require further attention. Collapse

Abstract: IS curricula require constant updating to accommodate the emergence of new technologies. Designing and delivering effective emerging technology courses within the constraints of existing programs remains an important challenge faculty face. This paper presents a template for approaching these courses from a learning theory perspective. Results of tests of this template, developed for teaching blockchain, indicate that it successfully strikes the balance needed in an IS program while simplifying the work of designing the structure of an emerging technology course. Additionally, this design was able to deliver this success in an online format, which can be a more challenging format for observing the application of knowledge. Blockchain is a disruptive emerging technology opportunity for businesses to unlock value through trusted and "smart" peer-to-peer transactions, wherein smart means businesspeople can custom design processes for verification and transfer of assets. The blockchain example provided here includes a flexible 7-scenario design targeted to enable a constructive, project-based learning approach focused on authentic learning experiences. The template as applied to blockchain may be used directly or adapted for easier development of other emerging technology courses. Dominic Thomas is an Associate Professor of Information Systems at the Coles College of Business, Kennesaw State University, Co-Director of the Modular Agile Deployment (MAD) Lab, and Coordinator for the undergraduate IS program. His current research focuses on improving the usefulness of technology in healthcare both in organizational and individual settings. This includes a major project developing improved 911 mental health response systems. In addition, he leads an ISO team developing global technology standards for the maritime industry. Abstract: Global initiatives on climate protection and national sustainability policies are accelerating the replacement of fossil fuels with renewable energy sources. Many electricity suppliers are engaged in efforts to monetize this transition with ‘green’ services and products, such as Green Electricity Tariffs. These promise customers that their supply includes a specific share of green electricity, yet since electricity suppliers often fail to deliver on those promises, many customers have lost trust in their suppliers. Further information asymmetries may not only exacerbate this loss of trust, but also spark distrust and lead to an overall feeling of ambivalence. Eventually, ambivalent customers may feel inclined to switch suppliers. To prevent this domino effect, electricity suppliers must eliminate ambivalence by increasing customer trust and reducing customer distrust. Here, we discuss how these challenges can be met with a customer loyalty program built on blockchain technology. We developed the program following a Design Science Research approach that facilitated refinement in four iteration and evalu­ ation cycles. Our results indicate that the developed customer loyalty program restores trust, reduces distrust, and resolves customer ambivalence by providing four features: improved customer agency, sufficient and veri­ fiable information, appropriate levels of usability, and unobstructed data access. Abstract: In electronic business (e-business), innovative technologies such as blockchain technology (BCT) have a fundamental impact on activities along the value chain. The perspective of the value chain in the context of blockchain technology has been explored, but contributions are mainly focused on supply chain management and tangible goods. Hence, the e-business domain lacks research, even though many beneficial features for service value chains and the transaction of intangible goods exist. Therefore, the current paper focuses on (1) how and why value chain activities are supported by using BCT and (2) how the stakeholder’s responsibilities change for value chain activities that are affected by BCT. A multiple case analysis of four e-business cases, i.e., Theta, OpenBazaar, Presearch, and Crypviser, is conducted. Based on four ideal value chains by Wirtz (2019) (cf. 4C-Net Model), steps that depend on BCT or that are supported by BCT are outlined. By conducting a cross-case analysis, we derive eight blockchain technology propositions that enlarge the existing knowledge base. Collapse

Abstract: Blockchain-based non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have heralded a new age of digital ownership, enabling business models across various applications. Representing noninterchangeable, physical or digital objects, particularly the subcategory of profile picture (PFP) projects gained considerable attention in 2021. However, a comprehensive analysis providing insights into the design of PFP business models is still missing. Therefore, we analyzed the business models of successful PFP projects in an iterative study. We combined a literature review with the empirical analysis of 60 projects, resulting in two outcomes: (1) A taxonomy that uncovers crucial dimensions and characteristics, and (2) five business model archetypes representing common combinations of these attributes. Our research provides insights into key patterns of PFP projects and their business models. We also enable practitioners to better understand and manage the opportunities and challenges associated.
