Abstract: With the development of the sharing economy, online ride-sharing has become a primary form of commuting. Using secondary transaction data, this study investigates the associations between the heterogeneous features and mutual trust in sharing economy-driven online ride-sharing transactions. Based on an examination of 12,404 ride-sharing orders in Beijing, we propose a set of trust distribution maps using order location data to reveal heterogeneous spatial patterns of the relationship between online ride-sharing transactions and mutual trust. The results show that the historical order completion rate and order distance are positively associated with mutual trust in ride-sharing transactions, whereas order time and departure density negatively and significantly influence mutual trust. Furthermore, we use machine learning algorithms to predict trust. The implications for theory and practice and future research directions are discussed. Collapse

Abstract: This study reveals the paradox of technostress on the elderly due to the large-scale COVID testing during the postCOVID-19 period. Drawing upon the stressor-strain-outcomes framework, we examined how technology-driven stressors affect the elderly’s avoidance behaviors. Results indicate that two types of technology-driven stressors exert opposite influences on the elderly’s avoidance behaviors through the mediating effect of technology anxiety. Specifically, the elderly’s technology-driven challenge stressors exert a positive influence on their avoidance behaviors, while the elderly’s technology-driven hindrance stressors exert a negative influence. Moreover, stigma consciousness plays a moderating role in the relationship between the elderly’s technologydriven hindrance stressors and technology anxiety by strengthening the positive influence of the elderly’s technology-driven hindrance stressors on technology anxiety. Our findings deepen the understanding of the good and bad of technostress and provide implications for older adults, technology developers, and the government. Collapse

Abstract: The metaverse is recognized as the next generation of disruptive innovation. It refers to a virtual world, in which users engage in social activities such as discussing, collaborating, playing, shopping, and learning. Different from traditional online community, metaverse provides an immersive and realistic experience with the use of advanced technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and extended reality (XR). In this sense, the metaverse creates a virtual world parallel to the physical world. For example, Facebook CEO-Mark Zuckerberg recently announced a full-color mixed reality headset namely Meta Quest Pro which is the first in a new line of advanced headsets built for collaboration, creativity and getting things done (Meta 2022).A unique feature of metaverse space is a threedimensional (3D) virtual world that allows social connection through avatars representing human beings themselves. Second Life, a typical example of the metaverse, allows users to design their avatar and enjoys various social gatherings (e.g., live concerts). Therefore, users could perceive a high level of interactivity and immersion in the metaverse space. The idea of the metaverse has attracted considerable attention from practitioners and academic researchers. Organizations attempt to integrate the metaverse into their existing business models. For instance, Wangyi successfully screened the International Conference on Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI 2020) in Yaotai metaverse, allowing researchers to create avatars and interact with each other. In addition, education organization such as university on one hand is actively developing metaverse education environment for improving learning and education performance via online social activity and gamified learning (EducationTimes). On another hand, it proactively develop education programs. For instance, Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has launched a new postgraduate programme in metaverse technology, as higher education institutions. Moreover, Metaverse has great potential in promoting digital transformation in many industries, such as tourism, leisure and hospitality, citizen-government interaction, health, and education. Although the metaverse has presented numerous opportunities to different industries, we should also pay attention to the possible challenges or risks, such as information security, privacy, delay and ethical issues, and other dark sides in the metaverse. It is noteworthy that, research on opportunities and challenges in the metaverse is still scarce. More specifically, we encourage the academic community to pay more attention to the various influence from behavioural and technological aspects in the Metaverse field.The HICSS minitrack "Opportunities and challenges in the Metaverse" was introduced to fill the void, to a certain extent, in the literature by addressing the opportunities and challenges the metaverse presents, exploring the new interaction and collaboration modes in the metaverse, providing multidisciplinary perspectives, and/or adopting mixed-methods research approaches. We expect more forward-looking insights on the metaverse. For this minitrack, we accepted two papers for inclusion in the HICSS conference proceedings.The first paper is co-authored by Sofia Schöbel, X Jasmin Karatas, Fabian Tingelhoff, and Jan Marco Leimeister and is titled "Not everything is a Metaverse?! A Practitioners Perspective on Characterizing Metaverse Platforms". This study attempts to address how to advance the academic understanding of metaverse platforms by incorporating the practitioner's view and how to characterize or realize metaverse platforms. By conducting a qualitative interview study, the authors use the expertise of practitioners to discuss different examples that claim to represent a metaverse, e.g., Second Life and Decentraland. This study develops a typology named Metagon that is used to evaluate existing metaverse platforms. Metagon describes three categories: social category, economy category, and technology category. For each of these three categories, three sections reflecting different aspects are identified. This study provides a novel method to evaluate the metaverse so that future research could advance the understanding of the nature and meaning of metaverse platforms. Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has posed a challenge to the development of global tourism. Metaverse tour, as an emerging travel pattern that combines metaverse characteristics, can bring positive implications for the digital transformation of tourism. However, few studies have integrated time and space to analyze the public's intentions of metaverse tour and in-person tour, calling for a comprehensive research framework. Based on coping theory, a mixed-methods approach was proposed to incorporate several constructs to investigate the factors that influence public participation in metaverse tour. We further analyzed the difference of public's willingness to travel in-metaverse versus in-person at different times. This study enriches our understanding of the popularity of metaverse tour and the reasons for it, and provides insights into the further development of tourism to facilitate changes in the metaverse-based tourism pattern. Abstract: The rapid growth of social media platforms in the digital age has led to an explosion of the metaverse, injecting new vitality into avatars. Previous research has mainly focused on the application of avatars in virtual environments, with limited research on the impact of avatar interactions on individuals, except for avatar similarity, customization, and the uncanny valley effect. Considering the positive and negative perceptions brought about by avatars to individuals, we adopted a mixed-methods approach to propose a model that reveals the influencing mechanism of individuals' perceptions of an avatar on their emotions and behaviors from a holistic perspective. This study contributes to existing knowledge and expands dualcongruity theory. Additionally, the findings have practical implications for managers of metaverse platforms and individuals alike. Abstract: Literature suggests various perspectives of the role of blockchain technology (BCT) in organizations, such as, techno-centric, humancentric, and technology institutionalization. This paper aims to look the adoption of blockchain, through the lens of institutionalization perspective based on the Institutional Theory. The literature argues that institutional theory pressures are only sufficient for innovation if it is seen as a solution where imitation can be followed. However, if there is no consensus on innovation adoption, it becomes difficult to understand the organizational economic and technical needs. Therefore, it is important to understand institutionalization of novel technologies like blockchain, which have yet to have enough examples to follow. The study proposes a framework based on data gathered via semi-structured interviews of blockchain experts using the Delphi method. Abstract: This study addresses two critical research gaps in human-robot interaction (HRI): the limited systematic research on the role of trust in customers’ acceptance of artificially intelligent (AI) robots; and the lack of understanding of robot acceptance under different cultural backgrounds. Drawing on the AIDUA framework, this study examines the impacts of trust and moderating effects of both national (the U.S. and China) and individual culture on customers’ intentions to use AI robots in hospitality services by developing a theoretical model. The model is tested on data collected using online data collection platforms from 491 U.S. and 495 Chinese respondents. PLSSEM and the bootstrapping method were used to test the hypothesized relationships and analyze the moderating effects of culture, respectively. The findings suggest that trust in interaction with AI robots is a significant higherorder construct that influences the intention of use. Furthermore, uncertainty avoidance, long-term orientation, and power distance have been found to exhibit significant moderation effects. The results of this study extend the theoretical frameworks in HRI and provide detailed guidance to promote AI robot applications across different cultures. Collapse

Abstract: Older adults, as a group, have been the focus of considerable attention from digital inclusion researchers. The paper analyses literature on the digital inclusion, digital divide, and digital equity of older adults from the last five years (2017)(2018)(2019)(2020)(2021)(2022) to explore the extent to which recent digital inclusion research considers developments in the field and explores how research has progressed from exploration to theory building and the empirical testing of models. The paper contributes to our understanding of digital inclusion research on older adults through an analysis of methodologies and theories employed, and the topics investigated. Trends, deficits and gaps for future research are identified, with suggestions for how our knowledge, understanding and conceptualization of older adults' digital inclusion may be advanced further. Abstract: Emerging technologies have a high potential for impact and are worthy of attention by the Information Systems (IS) community. To date, the IS discipline has not been able to be a leader in the research and teaching of emerging technologies in their early stages arguably because: (1) IS researchers often lack knowledge of the foundational principles of such emerging technologies, and (2) during the emerging phase, there is insufficient data on the adoption, use, and impact of these technologies. To overcome these challenges, the IS discipline must be willing to break its own disciplinary research boundaries to go beyond software applications and their related management issues and start studying emerging technologies before they are massively adopted by industry. In this paper, we use quantum computing as an exemplar emerging technology and outline a research and education agenda that will help IS harness the opportunities quantum computing offers. We propose that IS researchers rigorously investigate emergent technologies through collaboration with researchers from other disciplines. We also see a role for IS researchers in the scholarship of emerging technologies and in the process of introducing emerging technologies into IS curricula. Arizona. To answer his research questions, Chipidza uses a variety of advanced techniques including machine and deep learning, network modeling, and simulations. Chipidza's work has been published in multiple prestigious journals including . Driven by her intellectual curiosity for data and emergent information technologies, and her passion for designing and building things, Yan Li has oriented her career in a direction that integrates research, teaching, and practice in the realm of information science. She aspires to conduct impactful scholarship to advance scientific knowledge and make the world a better place. Her research focuses on data and knowledge management areas such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, data warehousing, data integration, natural language processing, and mobile technologies with an emphasis on the synergies between information systems and analytics. Her other research area focuses on developing Information and Communication Technology solutions for underserved populations in low-resource areas and improving social inclusion in health care.
