Abstract: Digital identity systems are mandated to be established by all countries as part United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDG 16.9) However, globally, over a billion people are still without a digital identity. Digital identity projects, across continents, have achieved underwhelming results and are facing implementation hurdles. This research examines the architecture and design of digital identity platforms which enable achieving platform objectives. Design science approach of General Morphological Analysis (GMA) has been employed for such examination. Cases of both-a successful and another moderately successful digital identity program implementation have been examined to validate testable propositions regrading optimal architecture/design aspects of such platforms. Research learnings are relevant for policy makers and technology designers to incorporate such platform design aspects in respective national digital identity initiatives. In addition, this research contributes to design science body of knowledge by empirical generalization of a configurable template and design factors in respect of digital identity platforms. Abstract: We study an online environment where a firm provides strategic product recommendations to consumers. We develop an analytical framework to integrate recommendations into the consumer search process. The firm sells two imperfectly substitutable products with different profit margins and makes a personalized product recommendation to each consumer based on its uncertainty (lack of knowledge) of his preferences. We define recommendation bias as the firm's deliberate decision to recommend a product to a consumer that does not minimize expected misfit cost of the consumer. Consumers can accept the product recommendation, search for the nonrecommended product, or leave the website. We identify five consumer segments based on consumers' responses to the firm's recommendations. We show that the recommendation bias, profit, and consumer surplus depend on the interaction between the firm's uncertainty regarding consumer preferences and consumer search costs. A reduction in its uncertainty about consumers leads to a corresponding increase in the firm's profit but does not necessarily result in a reduction in consumer surplus. An increase in search costs can lead to nonmonotonic changes in the firm's recommendation strategy, causing an increase or decrease in recommendation bias when the firm's uncertainty about consumers is low. Furthermore, the firm's profit can behave non-monotonically with respect to search costs: the firm benefits from an increase in search costs when these costs are small and uncertainty about consumers is low, but it can be adversely affected when search costs are moderate. Interestingly, consumer surplus may increase when search costs increase. Collapse

Abstract: Recent studies recognize that relational capital helps manufacturing firms in Global value chains (GVCs) enhance their competitiveness in global markets. However, prior research does not provide a conclusive account of the impact of relational capital on export performance, particularly in developing countries. Drawing on a learning-based perspective and contingency approach, this study fills these gaps by linking relational capital and firm performance with a focus on manufacturing firms in developing countries that participate in GVCs. Specifically, we propose that the relational capital of these firms will have a stronger positive impact on their export performance when the technological turbulence is lower, and vice versa. Overall, this research extends the literature on knowledge transfer, interfirm relational capital, and business performance in a developing-country context. Collapse

Abstract: This paper addresses a notable gap at the intersection of organizational economics and organization science: how does organizational context influence aggregation of individual behavior in organizational decisions? Using basic centralized versus decentralized organizational structures as building blocks for our experimental design, we examine whether assignment of organizational positions, incentive schemes, and structural configuration induce endogenous adaptation in the form of change in reservation levels (bias) or modified discrimination capability in subjects’ behavior. We found that evaluators adapted their reservation and discrimination levels in centralized structures, whereas they did not generally adapt their reservation and discrimination levels when placed in decentralized structures. Abstract: Social media networks (SMNs) are increasingly used in professional management of knowledge workers and related assets. However, the factors affecting behavioral trends and activity levels in these networks are not well understood. Although social and cognitive theories can help to explain human behavior in traditional social networks, their application to SMNs has not been validated. Traditional social network modeling techniques may not accurately predict real-world SMN activities. This research developed a temporal graph framework for in­ telligence extraction in SMNs. Theory-based, data-driven models (Conformity Model (COM), Recency-Primacy Model (REM), Trend Interaction Model (TIM), Periodic Interaction Model (PIM)) were developed based on the framework to capture various aspects of user behavior: conformity effect, recency, primacy, periodicity, and dynamic trend. The models capture the activity history and dynamically combine pricing information to enhance predictive accuracy. Using data of 83,536 GitHub software repositories on cryptocurrency, this article reports the results of experiments that compare the models’ performance in predicting SMN activities over time. Experi­ mental results show that the model (REM) that captures recency/primacy effects of human cognitive processing outperformed other models in 9 (out of 18) measures pertaining to engagement, contribution, influence, and popularity. Primacy plays a dominant role in predicting engagement, contribution, and popularity, whereas recency plays a key role in predicting influence. Short-term trend (modeled with TIM) was found to yield significantly better performance on predicting user contribution. The models also outperformed an integrated machine learning (IML) model by most measures. Overall, the effects modeled by REM and TIM were found to be more significant than the effects modeled by COM, PIM, and IML. The research contributes to enhancing un­ derstanding of SMN behavior, developing new models to simulate and predict SMN activities, and designing new artifacts for information systems practitioners to manage knowledge assets and to extract SMN intelligence. Abstract: The spreading of disinformation in social media threatens cybersecurity and undermines market efficiency. Detecting disinformation is challenging due to large volumes of social media content and a rapidly changing environment. This research developed and validated a theory-based, novel deep-learning approach (called TRNN) to disinformation detection. Grounded in social and psychological theories, TRNN uses deep-learning and data-centric augmentation to enhance disinformation detection in financial social media. Temporal and contextual information is encoded as specific knowledge about human-validated disinformation, which was identified from our unique collection of 745,139 financial social media messages about four U.S. high-tech company stocks and their fine-grained trading data. TRNN uses multiple series of long short-term memory (LSTM) recurrent neurons to learn dynamic and hidden patterns to support disinformation detection. Our experimental findings show that TRNN significantly outperformed widely-used machine learning techniques in terms of precision, recall, F-score and accuracy, achieving consistently better classification performance in disinformation detection. A case study of Apple Inc.’s stock price movement demonstrates the potential usability of TRNN for secure knowledge management. The research contributes to developing novel approach and model, producing new information systems artifacts and dataset, and providing empirical findings of detecting online disinformation. Abstract: Information systems development (ISD) requires dynamic and flexible ways of working, particularly when developing requirements in collaboration with customers. Although prior research has acknowledged the importance of objects to support ISD practices, there has been a lack of frameworks to help discern the multiple overlapping roles objects play to support requirements development in a variety of ways throughout an ISD project. This paper explores and theorizes this phenomenon by leveraging multiplexity as a theoretical lens to analyze an extensive qualitative data set from a case study at a Swiss multinational banking software provider. Results show how diagrams and prototypes both play the roles of epistemic, activity, boundary, and infrastructure objects as a reflection of how they are used in requirements development. Our analysis articulates how two classical requirements specifications play multiple overlapping roles to support dynamic and flexible ISD practices.
