Abstract: The massive and sudden deployment of telework during the Covid-19 pandemic led to a range of emotional reactions for employees. We explore these emotions through a data set consisting of humoristic videos produced during the pandemic. Humor was used by video authors as a way of coping with this sudden transformation of work practices and expressing these emotions. We developed a video analysis protocol and a grid to analyze the types of humor mobilized. Black humor was used for instance to target power relations, and self-derision to create a feeling of recognition of telework experiences in the audience. We found that different types of humor corresponded to three dimensions, instrumental, relational and managerial, and emotions related to decreasing levels of employee control. We suggest that new ways of working in the post-Covid era can be improved through a consideration of employees' emotions and sense of control along these dimensions. Collapse

Abstract: AI-augmented Business Process Management Systems (ABPMSs) are an emerging class of process-aware information systems, empowered by trustworthy AI technology. An ABPMS enhances the execution of business processes with the aim of making these processes more adaptable, proactive, explainable, and context-sensitive. This manifesto presents a vision for ABPMSs and discusses research challenges that need to be surmounted to realize this vision. To this end, we define the concept of ABPMS, we outline the lifecycle of processes within an ABPMS, we discuss core characteristics of an ABPMS, and we derive a set of challenges to realize systems with these characteristics. Abstract: With the rise of socio-political movements seeking to improve women's circumstances in society, research on gender has been continuously growing in Information Systems (IS) research. Despite this growth, critical-ethical perspectives on gender power dynamics are lacking. Therefore, we critically investigate the perceptions of male and female IS developers on gender inequalities using feminist ethics of power. We find that interviewees coincide in the belief that inequalities are improving and that gender is not a limiting factor of competencies. However, men and women deviate regarding perceptions of respect and validation, equality, and the drivers that (re-)produce disparities. Additionally, women exhibit fragmented conceptualizations of inclusion. Through a critical analysis of these findings, we expose ethical dilemmas that arise from these contradictory perceptions of gender inequalities and propose pathways for transforming the prevailing order. Our study contributes by advancing a broader perspective on inequalities through the lens of feminist ethics of power. Collapse

Abstract: Using conversational agents as decision-support tools brings together an interesting mix of theoretical lenses. On the one hand, user experiences with agents must still conform to characteristics of fluent use as any interactive system. But at the same time, the more human-like nature of back-and-forth discourse, instead of static graphical interfaces, provides users with social cues that they must then contend with. This study demonstrates how users facing disfluency, such as goal-oriented decision-making with large choice sets, can aid themselves with filters as a tool to reach the end of their task. It also demonstrates how a slowed system response (a social cue) will have a negative effect in disfluent situations where users are trying to regain confidence. A slowed system response time discourages users from using filters leaving them making a suboptimal decision. This study shows how decision fluency and social cues have interesting interactions in their effect on users performing tasks with conversational agents. Collapse

Abstract: We introduce a cardinal social preference rule (CSPR) which accounts for interpersonal comparisons of alternatives in groups and satisfies several desirable properties. The proposed rule transforms voters’ individual ordinal preferences to obtain a score for each alternative given by the generalized Shapley value of cooperative games with transferable utilities. Since every CSPR induces an ordinal social preference rule (OSPR) in a natural way, the score vector, we propose in our model, induces a weak preference on the set of alternatives. Abstract: The Metaverse has the potential to form the next pervasive computing archetype that can transform many aspects of work and life at a societal level. Despite the many forecasted benefits from the metaverse, its negative outcomes have remained relatively unexplored with the majority of views grounded on logical thoughts derived from prior data points linked with similar technologies, somewhat lacking academic and expert perspective. This study responds to the dark side perspectives through informed and multifaceted narratives provided by invited leading academics and experts from diverse disciplinary backgrounds. The metaverse dark side perspectives covered include: technological and consumer vulnerability, privacy, and diminished reality, human–computer interface, identity theft, invasive advertising, misinformation, propaganda, phishing, financial crimes, terrorist activities, abuse, pornography, social inclusion, mental health, sexual harassment and metaverse-triggered unintended consequences. Abstract: ☆ This editorial opinion paper provides a subjective viewpoint on the potential impact of generative AI technologies such as ChatGPT in the domains of education, business, and society. Its objective is to offer initial guidance on the opportunities, challenges, and implications associated with these technologies. It is worth noting that, given its nature as an editorial opinion piece, this submission has not undergone a formal double-blind review process but has been reviewed informally by appropriate experts.Transformative artificially intelligent tools, such as ChatGPT, designed to generate sophisticated text indistinguishable from that produced by a human, are applicable across a wide range of contexts. The technology presents opportunities as well as, often ethical and legal, challenges, and has the potential for both positive and negative impacts for organisations, society, and individuals. Offering multi-disciplinary insight into some of these, this article brings together 43 contributions from experts in fields such as computer science, marketing, information systems, education, policy, hospitality and tourism, management, publishing, and nursing. The contributors acknowledge ChatGPT's capabilities to enhance productivity and suggest that it is likely to offer 1 Equal contributions Y.K. Nevertheless, they also consider its limitations, disruptions to practices, threats to privacy and security, and consequences of biases, misuse, and misinformation. However, opinion is split on whether ChatGPT's use should be restricted or legislated. Drawing on these contributions, the article identifies questions requiring further research across three thematic areas: knowledge, transparency, and ethics; digital transformation of organisations and societies; and teaching, learning, and scholarly research. The avenues for further research include: identifying skills, resources, and capabilities needed to handle generative AI; examining biases of generative AI attributable to training datasets and processes; exploring business and societal contexts best suited for generative AI implementation; determining optimal combinations of human and generative AI for various tasks; identifying ways to assess accuracy of text produced by generative AI; and uncovering the ethical and legal issues in using generative AI across different contexts. Abstract: Online reviews are a crucial aspect of businesses' success. Thus, businesses encourage reviewers to write reviews offering concrete helpful information but such reviews are scarce. This study attempts to move beyond the traditional approaches to understanding reviewers' behavior and uses a novel lens of 'human construal'. By drawing on Construal Level Theory (CLT) we tend to understand reviewers' and readers' perceptions and utilize that for the maximization of review concreteness. Review concreteness is a semantic characteristic of a review and is considered an important aspect of reviews' perceived quality. We examine if reviewers' and readers' construal can be utilized to manipulate some factors of website design in a way that it drives reviewers to write and readers to perceive more concrete reviews and consequently enhance the overall concreteness of reviews. The study amalgamates literature from psychology, marketing, and information systems and has significant potential to benefit both businesses and consumers. Collapse

Abstract: Employee reviews offer valuable insights into the organizational culture of the employer. Two important facets of such reviews are the topics addressed by the employees and the underlying sentiments. For this research, one year of employee reviews for Twitter was collected from Glassdoor. The goal is to extract the topics and underlying employee sentiments across three time periods (before the acquisition, after the acquisition announcement, and after the acquisition) in view of the recent privatization. Based on the findings from topic models, variations in topics discussed by the employees were found across different time periods. Statistically significant differences were also found in the sentiments of Twitter employees across the three periods as expressed in the reviews. The study can help business organizations to understand the employee's perspectives towards them during a drastic contextual event such as acquisition, thus helping them to identify areas of improvement.
