Abstract: Social commerce (s-commerce) has gained prominence with advances in social media and social networking technologies over the last decade. Prior research has employed diverse theoretical perspectives to understand and explain consumer behavior within s-commerce but has also produced inconsistent results. This study integrates different theoretical perspectives including trust, social support, and social presence. The research portrays an integrated research model involving factors that impact behavioral intention and use behavior of s-commerce consumers whilst synthesizing prior empirical findings. A meta-analytic structural equation modeling (MASEM) method was used to synthesize 189 findings reported in 68 s-commerce studies and to analyze the structural model. Our findings show that trust and informational support have positive effects on behavioral intention while trust and emotional support have positive effects on use behavior. Furthermore, our findings highlight that behavioral intention influences use behavior and mediates the effect of trust and informational support on use behavior. The implications for research and practice are discussed in detail. Collapse

Abstract: Theory is a crucial aspect of the information systems (IS) discipline. Authors draw from articles on how to develop theory and from the theories themselves to anchor knowledge contributions. Editors and reviewers expect to see novel theoretical insights in conjunction with empirical rigour and sophistication (cf. Hardin et al., 2022). The thinking of PhD students is shaped by discussions on the importance of theory through formal coursework and research seminars, as well as socialisation with peers, supervisors and senior scholars in the field. Journals often solicit submissions to special issues that champion particular kinds of theory or theories on specific topics, for example indigenous theory (Davison, 2021). Advice is given to authors in different ways that they can theorise (Hassan et al., 2022;Hong et al., 2014;Sandberg & Alvesson, 2021;Weick, 1989). The peer review process emphasises the importance of theory and tends to reject research articles that lack substantial theoretical contribution.However, assessing theoretical contributions is often a challenging task. IS scholars research a variety of topics with a pluralistic set of methods and epistemological approaches , which have several implications for our engagement with theory. Traditionally, reference disciplines have informed the diversity of topics IS scholars investigate. The IS field is at a point in its disciplinary evolution where we are seeing an even greater ambit of the application and use of IS, which fosters new topics being investigated from different epistemological and methodological viewpoints as well as new types of contributions . Consequently, IS theories take on different roles for different types of epistemologies and methods, and not understanding or respecting these differences can lead to unreasonable or unbalanced evaluation of papers.In addition to the diversity of theoretical approaches, we also perceive differences in the nature of engagement with theory. For example, papers that analyse large amounts of secondary data (textual and numerical, structured and unstructured) often focus on complex empirical techniques to analyse such datasets, often engaging minimally with theory (Miranda et al., 2022). We believe that sophisticated data analysis does not relieve IS researchers from the obligation to make a theoretical contribution. In this context, we believe, that we should take heed of the advice by Gurbaxani and Mendelson (1994) who warned, almost 30 years ago, about 'the risks of ignoring the guidance of theory' and recommended that IS researchers refrain from tinkering with 'atheoretical "black box" extrapolation techniques ' (p. 180).In an earlier editorial in this journal, Davison and Tarafdar (2018) noted how baselines for what is an acceptable contribution in a discipline shift over time. However, it is our view that a robust theoretical contribution should be (and is) a consistent expectation, even if the nature of the theoretical contribution varies. Journals play a key role in establishing baselines and in that spirit, recent and emerging intellectual trends in IS and other disciplines have implications for how we apply and develop theory in IS and point to an evolving and multi-focused role of theory in IS research. Therefore, in this editorial, we revisit and explicate why theory is important at the Information Systems Journal (ISJ) in these emerging scenarios. Abstract: The design space of future mobility services is considered a wicked problem, as many stakeholders from the public and private sectors need to collaborate to create sustainable future services. Recent years have shown a growing interest in utilizing urban living labs (ULL) and similar quadruple helix approaches toward addressing wicked design challenges. However, when engaging in co-creation through living labs, many actors also see potential in adapting methodology and new ways-of-doing, to appropriate it and improve readiness for tackling other wicked challenges. The article draws upon a ULL initiative in the mobility service context to explore the main challenges for ULL partners to retain the ways-of-doing that develops in co-creation activities. Through our study, we identified that cocreation needs to be grounded in the known, to facilitate search and co-appropriation of the unknown as key for retaining ways-of-doing in ULL initiatives. Abstract: The diagnosis and treatment of common toxicologic disorders is an area of core content that emergency medicine (EM) resident physicians and physician assistants (PA) are required to demonstrate competence in order to become proficient practicing clinicians. Even when EM programs have a required toxicology elective, learners do not encounter all core toxicologic presentations. To supplement these knowledge gaps, many toxicology curriculums rely on internet learning modules which have variable uptake in practice. With remote learning and education becoming more common, we aim to perform a need-based assessment of EM resident and PA toxicology education and use the results to develop and deploy a text message-based, interactive toxicology supplemental program for EM residents and PAs and measure its acceptability and preliminary effectiveness to teach core toxicology principles. Abstract: Question Answering (QA) systems can significantly reduce manual effort of searching for relevant information. However, challenges arise from a lack of domain-specificity and the fact that QA systems usually retrieve answers from short text passages instead of long scientific articles. We aim to address these challenges by (1) exploring the use of transformer models for long sequence processing, (2) performing domain adaptation for the Information Systems (IS) discipline and (3) developing novel techniques by performing domain adaptation in multiple training phases. Our models were pre-trained on a corpus of 2 million sentences retrieved from 3,463 articles from the Senior Scholars' Basket and fine-tuned on SQuAD and a manually created set of 500 QA pairs from the IS field.In six experiments, we tested two transfer learning techniques for fine-tuning (TANDA and FANDO). Abstract: Human users contribute to the spread of disinformation on Social Media. To reduce the spread, we apply Transaction Cost Economics (TCE) Safeguarding, which penalises the sharing of disinformation. Using the economic theory TCE positions Social Media platforms as free markets, in which actors are motivated to protect their assets and peer reputation. We conducted a study exploring TCE Safeguarding as a market correction mechanism to change the disinformation diffusion behaviour of users. Our findings show that users will be less likely to post a comment and more likely to correct their previous disinformation diffusion actions when TCE Safeguarding is applied. Focusing on Social Media as a market rather than its individual components may provide a mechanism to address the "fake news" phenomenon. Collapse

Abstract: When introducing unfamiliar Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based systems, such as conversational agents (CAs), one needs to ensure that users interact with them according to their design. While past research has studied single-user environments, many practical settings involve multiple parties. This study addresses this gap and focuses on financial advisory service encounters and how mental models evolve in multi-party contexts. A multimodal interactive CA is developed and tested in financial consultations with 24 clients. The observations of these consultations and subsequent interviews provide insights into the challenges of using CAs in unfamiliar contexts. The clients have difficulties effectively using the system. This is linked to the institutional setting of financial advisory service encounters and a mismatch between the designer's conceptual model and the client's mental model, which we call secondary mental model. Abstract: Digital health data quality is a critical concern in the healthcare industry, jeopardizing the secondary use of data for revolutionizing population health, and hindering patient care and organizational outcomes. Limited published evidence exists for explaining why these data quality issues emerge. The Odigos framework is a notable exception asserting that data quality issues emerge from three worlds: material world (e.g., technology artifact), personal world (e.g., technology users/use), and social world (e.g., organizations/ institutions) but has yet to systematically unpack the elements within these worlds. Through deductive and inductive analysis of interview data from a case study of the Emergency Department of Australia’s first large digital hospital, we apply and extend the Odigos framework by identifying elements emanating from the three worlds and their interrelationships as root causes of data quality issues. These elements can then be used by hospitals to develop strategies to proactively improve their digital health data quality. Collapse

Abstract: Whether entrepreneurship generates economic growth depends on the institutional environment due to its impact on the mix of productive and unproductive entrepreneurship in the economy. The incentive structure embedded in each society affects whether talented people become entrepreneurs and potentially, the extent to which they engage in more productive forms of entrepreneurship. We examine how trust in institutions affects the entrepreneurial intentions of potentially productive entrepreneurs. We utilize the unique event surrounding the impeachment of South Korea’s previous president. The event improved people’s trust in the government because it was ultimately the people’s protests and demands that led to the impeachment of the president for influence peddling and extracting personal rents from businesses. By surveying the same individuals before and after the impeachment ruling, we identify people’s changes in trust in government and various institutions. We find that increased trust in institutions increases one’s intent to start a business within five years. Moreover, we show that the relationship between trust in institutions and entrepreneurial intention is significantly stronger for engineering majors from top universities. Abstract: Firms struggle with improving end-to-end (E2E) processes due to difficulties in establishing shared E2E process understanding across firm levels. Creating behavioral visibility into processes might provide a solution, but traditional methods are limited in effectiveness. Thus, process mining (PM), offering data-driven process discovery and measurement, shows promise, but its implications on creating and acting on a shared E2E process understanding remain unclear. Addressing this gap, we conduct a single case study at a manufacturing firm guided by theories of organizational learning and organizational routines. Our preliminary findings reveal how the data-driven behavioral visibility through PM enables four mechanisms within and between the individual, team, and firm levels to create a shared E2E process understanding and change. We contribute to business process management and PM research by showing how firms use PM to overcome challenges in the multi-level process of creating and acting on a shared E2E process understanding.
