Abstract: Online forums sponsored by Electronic Networks of Practice are commonly used to exchange information related to problem solving, but the quality of solutions posted on forums can vary widely. To assist knowledge seekers, most forums offer contextual cues that signal solution quality, such as endorsements by the question poster, experts, or other community members. However, the influence of these cues on information-filtering decisions, particularly when presented simultaneously, remains poorly understood. This study draws on signaling theory to develop hypotheses about how four cue dimensions-source, valence, format, and volume-shape information filtering on an online forum. Results from three choice-based conjoint studies show that some sources are more influential than others and that positive cues weigh more heavily on filtering decisions than negative cues. Results also show that cues tend to be more influential when they employ a more granular format and reflect the input of a larger number of individuals. Collapse

Abstract: Hedonic information consumption (HIC) refers to the consumption of information for non-task-oriented purposes such as entertainment or pleasure. With the explosive growth of information availability through online channels such as social media, HIC has become a common and growing phenomenon; however, most information systems research to date has focused on factors surrounding information consumption for utilitarian rather than hedonic purposes. In this paper, we take an initial step to inform theory in this area by applying a NeuroIS lens to explore HIC behavior. We postulate that information is more likely to be hedonically consumed when it is appraised as interesting, and that certain characteristics of the information involved in HIC, namely its novelty and valence, play a role in determining its interestingness. Moreover, we hypothesize that HIC is driven by the neurobiological reactions that take place in response to information novelty and valence. We report the results of a behavioral and an fMRI experiment designed to measure the relationship between these information dimensions and neu­ rocognitive responses in the context of a popular social media platform. Our results provide preliminary evidence for differential processing patterns related to novelty and valence that can inform ongoing theory building surrounding HIC behaviors. Collapse

Abstract: Despite the promised potential of artificial intelligence (AI), insights into real-life human-AI hybrids and their dynamics remain obscure. Based on digital trace data of over 1.4 million forecasting decisions over a 69-month period, we study the implications of an AI sales forecasting system's introduction in a bakery enterprise on decision-makers' overriding of the AI system and resulting hybrid performance. Decisionmakers quickly started to rely on AI forecasts, leading to lower forecast errors. Overall, human intervention deteriorated forecasting performance as overriding resulted in greater forecast error. The results confirm the notion that AI systems outperform humans in forecasting tasks. However, the results also indicate previously neglected, domain-specific implications: As the AI system aimed to reduce forecast error and thus overproduction, forecasting numbers decreased over time, and thereby also sales. We conclude that minimal forecast errors do not inevitably yield optimal business outcomes when detrimental human factors in decision-making are ignored. Collapse

Abstract: While resilience is acknowledged as a complex construct and one that is difficult to assess, universities are recognising its importance. They are beginning to invest in research and services aimed at building student resilience. However, there is limited research into the levels of, and contributors to, student resilience. This study explored the effects of an experiential learning tool, business simulation games (BSGs), on the development of IS students' academic resilience. The researcher interviewed instructors conducting ERPsim labs to find out their views regarding the impact of BSGs on three aspects of the Resilience at University (RAU) scale: academic buoyancy, personal competence and social competency. Findings from the instructors' interviews demonstrated that Business simulations help students build resilience by offering a safe environment where they can fail, learn, and try again. Simulations may educate students on managing stress and pressure, remaining focused on their objectives, and having a good attitude. Collapse

Abstract: The adoption of Information Systems (IS) is among the critical topics for IS research and practice. However, despite rich insights across IS literature streams, many IS implementation projects still struggle with user adoption and realising benefits. This paper argues that a knowledge gap exists because research has paid little attention to the definition, manifestations, and effects of adoption management in mandatory environments. The article proposes definitions and systematically reviews findings related to adoption management at the cross-section of the adoption and benefits management literature. The findings show that adoption management manifests across the two literature streams as constructs, models, and methods. While some articles examine these manifestations in the analysis, many discuss adoption management as an afterthought in the implications for practice in discussion sections, and few articles explicitly label it adoption management. We discuss these and other gaps and provide avenues for future research. Collapse

Abstract: Online healthcare portals have become prevalent worldwide in recent years. One common form of a healthcare portal is the online consultation website, which provides a bridge between patients and doctors and reduces patients’ time and cost when seeking healthcare services. Another form is the healthcare service appointment website, which facilitates offline visits for patients. Although nominally separate, the behaviors of the users (including patients and doctors) on these two types of websites could be related to each other. In particular, how does opening online consultation services impact the offline appointments of doctors? Although this is an important question for healthcare portals, doctors, and policy makers, it has not been rigorously examined in the literature. In this paper, we attempt to bridge this important gap by examining the overall impact of offering online consultations on offline appointments. Our results show that the number of offline appointments for doctors increases after opening an online consultation service. Additionally, we examine how several factors, such as recommendation heat, hospital ranking, and doctor title, moderate the impact of opening online consultation services on doctors’ offline appointments. Abstract: Online investment communities have been widely adopted by investors to disclose investment-related information, such as predictions of stock returns. Although it benefits both platforms by attracting more users and other investors by providing additional finely-processed information, it may hurt publishers due to the potential loss of their unique valuable private information. Therefore, understanding why users share their own predictions in online communities becomes an important issue. Drawing on the abilitymotivation-opportunity framework, we seek to identify three important factors influencing users' willingness to share predictions. Utilizing data obtained from StockTwits, our preliminary results show that the number of followers, prediction accuracy, and historical stock performance negatively affect users' sharing of their predictions of stock returns. Our findings can contribute to the literature on information sharing and provide managerial implications for online investment communities. Collapse

Abstract: The increasing use of information technology artifacts in daily life makes security a shared responsibility of both users and companies. In recent years, increasing a user’s objective (i.e., actual) security knowledge and providing applications with more secure default settings appear among the most ubiquitous tools companies use to broaden their efforts to help users make more secure decisions. Examining both solutions matters because they are widely used, cost effective, and understood by many security practitioners. Additionally, default settings and users’ objective knowledge provide anchors for decision-making. However, human errors and insecure default settings are increasing and raising further questions about the efficacy of such efforts. Using the theory of bounded ra­ tionality, we investigated the role of objective, subjective (i.e., self-assessed) security knowledge, and default settings security level on the overall decision security. We found that objective security knowledge can lead to secure decisions when paired with high subjective security knowledge. In the absence of the latter, objective security knowledge is unable to lead to better security decisions. Furthermore, subjective security knowledge reduces the extent to which users fully accept default security settings, thereby mitigating bias toward insecure default settings. Collapse

Abstract: The academic community is experiencing a significant disruption thanks to a new technology called ChatGPT. There is news almost daily about how Large Language Models technologies have the potential to allow students to cheat undetected. This leads many universities to discuss ways to regulate and even ban its use. But is this necessary? The previous research focuses mainly on universities' and lecturers' views but fails to consider the students' views. Do students even want to use the system, and if they do, will they use it for nefarious purposes? Extending the Technology Acceptance Model with Perceived Ethics, this quantitative study researched how students perceive ChatGPT from an ethical perspective and how that impacted their intention to use the system for school work. 277 Students from 40 countries took part in the survey. Results indicated that Perceived Ethics has a direct positive influence on the attitude toward usage but only an indirect effect on the behavioral intention to use the system for school work. This study is one of the first to consider how students perceive ChatGPT from an ethical perspective and how that impacts their perception of and intention to use the Large Language Models technology system. Abstract: In a constantly evolving digital sphere, surmounting organizational boundaries and sharing data offers the opportunity to realize a multitude of mutual benefits, such as advanced analytics and innovative services. Organizations aspire to share data. However, they struggle to identify and establish beneficial conditions for data sharing, and research still offers little support to exploit the potential of data sharing. We apply an exploratory research approach to develop a framework of beneficial conditions for data sharing. By combining ten expert interviews and a systematic literature review, we aggregate 23 characteristics that constitute beneficial conditions into eight categories and apply and validate the framework in a real-world case. Thus, we contribute to research by providing a fundamental understanding of beneficial conditions for data sharing and a compact target picture. Additionally, we enable practitioners to systematically assess an organization's current condition to set the course toward exploiting the full potential of data sharing. Collapse
